Kapitel 105: Harsh Training
There are 31 members in total. I torture…help them train one after the other. I was expecting some to give up.
After all, it is easy to leave the hard things to others. To simply give up. To lie to oneself. To say that we didn't simply have it in us.
There are many things that raw effort can accomplish. Perhaps not miracles, but close. Nope. They keep hearing the screams of pain of the ones before. Yet they remain headstrong.
That is when someone new turns the corner. Wait…
[You, are you a girl?]
I didn't notice before because of the clothes.
"Y-yes, is the sword training only for men?"
[No, it's fine. How many girls are in the group?]
"Three including me!"
[Alright.]
Let me think. I'm all for gender equality but that is pushing it a bit too much. I can't ask the other girls to do it either. It could become dangerous.
I can't really do it with my eyes closed now can I? I'll just have her uncover her back. Sad for the clothes but…
*Sound of clothes dropping on the floor*
Wait, what?! She slowly does as all the others have done before. Let's just say the view is very different.
"I'm ready. No need to be gentle. I can take it!"
I need to stay calm. Just need to do as I've done with the others.
[Alright, get ready.]
*SMACK*

Damn even the sound effect is different! What's with those moans? Seriously?!
Steady heart, steady mind, steady…
I keep going. Let's just say this seance tests my limits. Soon enough I am done dealing with all my students. I emerge from the rock.
They are all naked, to preserve the clothes. This feels like a nudist vacation camp. I'd expect them to be shy or even ashamed. Nope. They are all looking straight at me. Awaiting my instructions.
[This was just a teaser. What will come will be immensely more difficult. Are you guys ready?!]
And girls but whatever. They are part of our group now. They all solemnly nod.
[Great. You guys all have your swords?]
They grab it from the floor. Some are relatively old, but they will do. I mean I don't even own a sword myself. Should I ask the town for one? I would probably lose some prestige.
[No matter what, never ever drop your sword! Is that understood? From now on this piece of metal is your best friend! Some of you will have more rusty friends than others. You fight with it. You run with it. You sleep with it. You eat with it. You shit with it. Is that understood?!]
"Yes, Sir!"
[It needs to become an extension of your body. I want you guys to feel physically ill the moment you are missing it.]
I can see them tightening the grip on their swords.
[You want to hold tight, but not too tight. You aren't trying to crush it. You simply are holding it. Wielding it.]
They carefully relax the force. Good. I'll be right back. I go on and summon hedge walls. This shall do the trick. Before long the area clearly delimited.
[Alright, you see these walls in the distance? Do not cross these. We will play a game. It is called run. Any question?]
They keep silent.
[Good. 10. 9. 8. 7.]
At first, they are confused but then one of them darts off. Good. I like quick thinkers. Starts a mad chase of cat and mouse.
They try their best but without success. It is like a kid on a tricycle trying to outrun a street racer. Or like a kid trying to fight a professional boxer. Or like a kid trying to outgun a police station. You get it, never leave your kid with me. Anyway, soon enough they are all on the ground screaming in pain.
[Oh? Is that all you guys can do? Already giving up? You guys want to remain trash it seems. Don't worry I'll-]
"HELL NO!"
"Me neither!"
They all rise up. I see some of them roll. I see some of them crawl. I see one using his head to push himself. Before long they are all standing.
[10. 8. 7.]
"That's unfair there was no 9!"
Yet the guy that says that is already running.
[Seven ate nine!]
Who said training can't be fun? Now training actually sounds interesting. Let's just say it's better when you're not on the receiving end.
I can't wait to see how far they will progress. I barely reached beginner mastery. At least that was according to the ghost. I should be as strong as the average swordsman here. I will share some of my knowledge with them. It may be lacking but it's their best bet right now.
At some point, they cannot go on anymore. They spent the day getting tortured and running. Without food even. I hear one of them mention that it is to build their resilience. So they can fight for hours without showing fatigue. Not even stopping for eating.
Truth is, I forgot. I don't feel physical hunger myself. Simply a craving for good food when I see some. But as long as I'm busy I won't even notice. I can't really admit that now.
We head back to town. As we leave the enclosure, we can see livid villagers. Seems like they were eavesdropping. When they see the 31 their eyes pop out. They'll get used to it.
Sure they are bloody but it's all surface wounds and… Ah, actually never mind. I think the issue is the combo of naked and bloody. Add to that the three girls too. With everyone being a complete mess.
Soil is also mixed in there too. Especially in the hair. Wow, now that I look at them… It ain't pretty, to say the least.
[Go and wash yourselves and eat. We'll start this again in the morning. Sleep well.]
On that note, they drag their feet back to town. With their swords in hand. I see the mayor approach.
"T-that..."
[What is it?]
"…Nothing."
[Do you disapprove of my methods?]
"*Sigh* Not at all. It just pains me to see them like that."
[I understand. But they may have a chance at surviving now.]
He nods understandably.
"Thank you for doing this."
[No worries.]
Funny how I'm getting praised for beating people. That is literally all I did today. Nothing else. Oh well, baby steps. Maybe I will stay here for a little while.
I mean I am doing the tortoise's quest right now. Pretty sure there is no time limit to turn it in haha.
Now, what should my next step be?
