Kapitel 86: Ambush!

I can't help but chuckle to myself. I remember how it sounded to hear the ghost freaking out. Just the idea of an elegant and noble elf's reputation getting tarnished is enough to terrify him. It does sound weird said like that, but it really is the case.

Let it be known no one and I say no one can get away turning Yggdrasil's Pupil into sashimi! Actually, if I have to say it there is an issue. It is like the badass lords that existed. People just knew not to piss them off!

I want the respect that comes with that without the actual tyranny. Now that I think about it clothes are going to help big time. Could you look up to a naked guy? Probably not.

Especially if he's walking around in a park. That just screams shady. Good thing I was in a forest away from civilization. Right, could a society entirely made up of animals work? What would it look like? Could call it animal far…forest. Ah, I don't know.

I feel like trying to bring all these peculiar creatures together would just blow up in my face. When in doubt take a step back and observe. Talking about observing, my surroundings are awesome. I can see the greenery below. I can see clouds in the air. I can see the blue sky. I feel free.

From time to time I bring the shell fragment out. I feel like the captain of a ship right now. Deciding on the heading. From time to time encouraging the roc. He is extremely endurant overall, physically.

The only thing is every time we encounter something he almost loses his shit. It goes like this:

A bird he freaks out.

A leaf drifting in the wind, he freaks out.

A cloud that looks MENACING, he freaks out.

Ah, wind itself too scares him.

Well, it is rather strong at this height.

The only thing preventing him from crashing is me telling him that everything will be alright. Legit from time to time I need to remind him how to flap his wings. That should be a given for a bird? I agree!

Oh well, it is what it is. It beats walking for sure. In such a fashion we keep going. Day becomes night and night becomes…. you get it. We keep flying for weeks. That is a lot of distance covered considering my companion's speed.

This world seems massive! The cool landscape starts to become boring after a while. We are so high up that it's hard to distinguish anything. Well, the only evident thing is that we go from a forest with huge trees to a forest with medium trees. Yes, that's it.

Traces of civilization? None! We stay on course. Until finally something new appears. In the distance, there is a mountain. Tall, majestic, sturdy, cool-looking. Just to avoid any confusion I'm not describing myself, but the mountain.

"I really think we should stay far away from that teacher!"

[Why?]

"Because we'll be away from home starting there."

Damn! It took us more than a month of straight flying just to exit the forest?! No wonder people try to explore it from time to time. How many natural resources must be hidden in this huge territory of ours? Actually, it should be even more insane if one considers the half-pocket dimensions. Still, we are not done yet.

[No matter, let's keep going.]

"Are you sure, teacher?"

[Yes, just fly.]

*Gulp*

We pass over the mountain peaks. No issue whatsoever. The roc is akin to a guy driving a monster truck while worrying about pebbles on the road. He has a huge body! Honestly, I feel like he could almost fight a dragon head-on if he wasn't so cowardly. Any smart creature will stay away from us for sure haha.

That's when it happens. Right as we are going above a fissure in the rock. Exit from it many small-sized creatures. Compared to the roc they are minuscule. Wings, claws, scaly skin, sharp fangs. They look like tiny dragons. Wyverns! They go after us.

"Nooooo!"

[Relax! Stop panicking they can't do anything to us!]

"Nononono!"

He just increases his speed. Not even bothering to try and fight.

*Screech!*

With every sound they make, my mount freezes for half a second. This is dumb. I try to communicate with the creatures, but none answers. They want to eat us. Plain and simple. We are faster and stronger than them and yet we are the ones running away.

[Stop fooling around! Just turn and destroy them!]

"There is no way I can I'm outnumbered!"

[There are like 5 of them! Just bash them all!]

"They are too scary, teacher!"

Oh my god, that idiot. They are right on our heels. Gaining distance too. He's flapping his wings disorderly. He's flailing around with his claws. He's a mess. Wait, it's fine. I just need to... I take the most panicked voice I can.

[There is a dragon in front! Stop!]

He comes to a sudden halt. Still moving his talons like an idiot. Surprised by the sudden maneuver the wyverns cannot stop.

*Sound of wyverns getting diced by a roc ...by mistake*

[We did it we can…]

"Hold on teacher! I'll escape! No way I'll let the dragon eat us!"

[It's all good there is no dragon and now there are no…]

He accelerates violently with a violent burst of speed!

*Snap*

That's when the vine saddle breaks. I am now falling. In the distance, I can see a roc becoming smaller and smaller. Until he finally disappears. Motherfucking dumbass!

Fuck me. I need to act fast. Before long I'll hit the ground and splatter. Think, think! There it is! Fissures in the cliff. I make a vine appear and swing it. It takes a few tries. Slowly lowering my speed.

Eventually, I manage to drag myself. Then I cautiously enter what seems like an empty hole. I can't help but simulate a breath of relief. I'm alive. I survived a fall that would have killed me for sure on earth.

Magic is fucking awesome. But seriously screw that bird! He just left me for dead. Oh well, now I need to figure out my surroundings.

I feel like this journey just went from a casual mission to a royal pain in the ass.
