My scream echoes Evanora’s as I watch them fall in slow motion. My magic just broke through the barrier and I quickly release a spell to catch her and Carl mid-air. I float away from the cliff, the birds suddenly backing away, as if they know I can defend myself now.
I mutter under my breath and swirl my fingers and wrists, creating a protective shield around everyone on the mountain. The ravens screech in frustration, unable to continue attacking as our party hurriedly makes its way down into the treeline.
As soon as I am sure everyone is safely on the ground, I begin to extend the protective spell to the entire valley. Since the transfer of Evanora’s power, my body doesn’t suffer the same consequences for doing a powerful enchantment as it did before. Instead of exhaustion, I feel invigorated.
