“Ms. Raven! Wait!” Carl shouts behind me. I turn around, realizing I should have said goodbye to him. My aching heart drowned out all rational thought and my cheeks heat with embarrassment at my rudeness.
“Hey, Carl,” I say lamely.
“Where are you going with bags?” he asks me bluntly.
“I’m going home with my father. I’m glad you’re here, so I can say a proper goodbye,” I tell him. Tears spring to my eyes and threaten to spill over. I am going to miss Carl.
“Goodbye? You mean you’re not just visiting for a while? What about the Alpha?” he asks me.
“The Alpha doesn’t want to come and after today, I don’t think I’m welcome here anymore. Most of the pack likely thinks the attack was my fault, and the Alpha is unhappy with me for not telling him I’m a werewolf. I’ve made a huge mess of things and I think it’s best for me to leave quietly,” I reply with a broken sigh.
