Painful whimpers filled the room, an almost breathless sound accompanying it. Arya's eyes were swollen from all the crying she had done since she opened his book.

When he told her that the content may hurt her, she expected as much. Yet, nothing could have prepared her for what she read. Every page was a tear-jerker.

It slashed repeatedly at her heart, kept her eyes moist and her throat in a chokehold. Truthfully, this was the most he had expressed himself from the moment she discovered his existence.

His traumatic past put hers to shame. No matter how she looked at it, her past felt like child's play compared to his. To make it worse, she didn't know the wound he carried.

Trauma bonding, he had said. She scoffed, holding the book closer to her heart. How was it trauma bonding when she was the only one whose wounds were healing while his kept festering?
