Kapitel 27: GROCERY DATE! (3)

[Yang Menghuo POV]

"This is Jiejie's treat for you because you accompanied me for two hours doing grocery shopping."

Yang Menghuo was dazed for a moment. He thought he heard it wrong, but what Ying Jie said was eerily similar to what Batman-Jie usually said whenever he did a great job doing anything for her.

Batman-Jie would ask for his money and then bought him so much stuff with that money and said, 'This is Jie's treat for you, don't worry, Jie also worked hard to buy you stuff. So you can eat it!'

'Yes! Batman-Jie!' MengMeng or young Menghuo would be happy to indulge in anything that was given by Batman-Jie. All he needed to do was to always give Batman-Jie his pocket money. It was nothing compared to the time he could spend with Batman-Jie.

"Meng Bao? Meng Bao? Hey!" Shi Ying shook Menghou's shoulder.

"Y—Yes!"

"Can you reserve a seat for us? I will purchase these cakes first," Shi Ying said.

"Okay," Yang Menghuo nodded and sat at a table, guarding Ying Jie's shopping trolley while Ying Jie purchased the cake inside the store for them to eat.

Yang Menghuo watched Ying Jie's back. She had a broad shoulder for a woman, much like Batman-Jie if Batman-Jie was a woman.

She also had the same big sister aura on her, which made Yang Menghuo very comfortable. It was the same comfort that he had when he was with Batman-Jie. At first, he was sticking around Batman-Jie because she beat up the bullies, like a little brother asking for shelter to his big sister.

But that feeling gradually bloomed into a beautiful feeling that he cherished until now. He wanted to find Batman-Jie again. It was so hard to track Batman-Jie, though. She never told him her true identity, not even showing her face. Let alone telling her house or whatsoever.

He simply knew her as Batman-Jie.

Yang Menghuo was sad for a moment, thinking of his slow search for his loved one. Batman-Jie must be waiting for him to come, but he couldn't find her.

Shi Ying walked to Menghuo with two slices of cheesecake. She sat on the opposite seat, facing Menghuo and slid the cheesecake on her rental boyfriend. "This one is for you, Meng Bao," Shi Ying said.

Yang Menghuo stared at the cheesecake, then he stared at Ying Jie for a while.

"Aiya, why are you looking at me like that? Do I have something on my face?" Ying Jie asked.

"Do you love cheesecake, Jie?" Menghuo asked.

"Eh? Of course! Who doesn't love cheesecake ah! One can live without rice for a day, but one cannot control oneself without cheesecake!" Shi Ying replied excitedly as she dug in first.

Yang Menghuo remembered that Batman-Jie also loved cheese. There was no store sold cheese in the village. People needed to go to the nearest commercial minimarket that was far away. Besides, most villagers were not rich enough to afford the luxury, so they ate whatever they had.

Menghuo often brought cheese from his fridge in his grandmother's mansion. Because Batman-Jie loved cheese so much.

'Ah, even her favourite food is the same. Could it be that Ying Jie is Batman-Jie?' Yang Menghuo thought. He had hope in his heart that his search was finally over. He stared at Ying Jie again, took a deep breath, and asked, "Ying Jie… do you… have a childhood crush or sweetheart back then?"

'If she says yes, then I might have a chance! I'm pretty sure that Batman-Jie also feels the same for me! She even promised to be my bride back then!'

"Eh!?" Shi Ying choked when she heard that. It was so sudden, "W—Why do you ask?"

"I just… want to know," Menghuo said.

"Hm…"

If Shi Ying could be honest, she would say yes. When she was around twelve years old, she accompanied her dad to the neighbouring village to transport rice bags and water gallons every day after school. One day, when she was strolling around the neighbour village, she saw a girl getting surrounded by many boys.

Acting like her favourite superhero. Shi Ying wore a Batman mask she bought for 10 yuan to protect the ten years old girl.

As a girl who was used to work like a man and carry many things for her father, she beat up the bullies easily to save the girl. The girl introduced herself as MengMeng because her grandma often called her that, and she lived in a big mansion nearby.

MengMeng was extremely beautiful, almost perfect, like a barbie doll. And it charmed Shi Ying immediately. Honestly, since she was a kid, she was already confused with her preference. When she saw Batman, Robin, and Batgirl in a pawned comic book her dad bought, she was charmed by all of them. She was captivated by Batman's strength and handsomeness, Robin's boyish charm, and Batgirl's girl power!

So she had to admit that her childhood crush was actually a girl.

'Aish, but this is too embarrassing! I don't mind admitting it, but Meng Bao and I are not too close to talk about this private stuff!'

After a moment of consideration, Shi Ying cleared her throat and replied, "I don't have any childhood crush. Back then, I'm too busy helping my dad to work. What about it, Meng Bao?"

Yang Menghuo was disappointed. At some point, he really wished that Ying Jie could be his Batman-Jie…

'Maybe because I missed Batman-Jie so much that I start projecting her image to another woman…' Menghuo thought dejectedly.
