Kapitel 36: The Suspects

"The devil is a natural phenomenon. The next thing that you are going to tell me is that the devil is on our side or something like that." Whiz stated jokingly as everyone laughed but Adrian or Joe.

"Anyways, we have managed to identify a few suspects on the case. They have been spotted in the area where the killings happened about three or more times. Your job will be to tail them for a duration of one month." Joe stated as the holograms of three people is projected in front of them.

Three individuals with different features are projected and it seems that they come from different nationalities or factions. Two of the individuals are a man while the other is a woman. They exuded different auras that make them almost invisible to normal humans around them.

"The first of the individuals that we think are suspects is called Andrey Smirnov. We only know his current whereabouts now, but we suspect that he is a Deviant. I made Whiz dig deeper and managed to find out that he used to a member of the Russian secret service but suddenly disappeared in one of the missions.

The second is called John Smith which is probably not his real name. He is an ex-marine that was discharged due to having a troublesome personality. The file about him seems to have been tampered with and we could not trace his exact origins, but we could guess that he is from North America.

The last is a female named Belle Blanchet. A French national that is famed for her assassinations of powerful men. She has yet to be jailed as there are no concrete evidence that points her as the one who killed them. Still, she could be the most troublesome of the three which is why me and Sofia will handle her.

The first two will be handled by the four of you while Whiz will remain here at the command center. This time we need all of you to exercise extreme caution as the records of the three are not friendly. Your task is to incapacitate them if they become suspicious but never confront them directly." Joe stated as he relegated the tasks.

"What about the groupings?" Esme asked as she wanted to get paired with Dustan.

"The pairs will be the same, but the operation will not immediately be started. You still have a week to prepare. We are still tracking the location of all three targets as they do not seem to stay in the same place for a long time. We are looking for an area where they treat as a base location." Joe stated but Esme started to protest.

"I should be paired with Dustan this time." Esme rebuked.

"You should be paired with him because?" Joe asked.

"Because…because…Ah! I do not know!" Esme embarrassingly replied as she could not answer the question.

"Your current pairings are the best as of now. Some of our operatives are still on the field and we are stretched thin as it is. Honestly speaking, I do not want all of you to go in pairs since it might be dangerous which is why the task is only to ascertain if the suspects are indeed the criminal." Joe stated.

"You must understand that Adrian is the most sensitive of all of you as he can detect things and see things that is not possible with the naked eye. Dustan might be great in controlling his powers, but he lacks that aspect.

You and Jihan are somewhat sensitive to malicious intent which is why the two of you are paired. The pairings now have the best chance of all of you to survive. This is nothing like the cases that you have handled so far. The perpetrator makes Deviants kill without remorse and we do not want those that die be you." Sofia explained.

"Which is why all of you will be trained for six days while we are triangulating the location of the suspects. When I mean all that means that even Whiz will participate." Joe stated to which Whiz grumbled like a child as he is not keen on physical activities.

"That is all for the deliberation. You are all free to do what you want until you are called upon for training." Sofia stated as the others need to eat and rest up.

Unsurprisingly, all five of them headed to the cafeteria as they all felt hungry after the deliberation. They all gathered at the table while Adrian is still busy building a food mountain on his tray. Baba already warned him that he might have an upset stomach of eating a lot of food, but he did not pay any attention to that remark.

"Are you sure about that volume of food? You eat more than Jihan and that is saying a lot as he is already pigging out." Esme remarked as she is still not happy about the pairings.

"Do not worry about me as this is just an appetizer. The main course will be for later." Adrian nonchalantly replied as he started to eat.

"So…how did it feel meeting a king of hell? I am asking you since Dustan over there passed out." Whiz bluntly asked which made Dustan almost choke.

"I could only describe the King of Hell like someone with Joe's aura as they are the closest." Adrian replied as he wanted to hint what kind of being Joe really is. He is tired of playing with his whole charade of an unageing human.

"You mean cruel." Esme stated.

"You are only saying that because you did not get what you want." Jihan commented as Esme glared at her.

"By having the same aura, you mean they have this sort of feeling that they are boundless and could not be read." Dustan stated in a serious tone which also made the others stop eating.

"Tell us honestly, what is your relationship with Joe? Or rather tell us what you are?" Dustan stated as he looked at Adrian with all seriousness.
