The people around her were very attentive to her condition. Ellendise received a lot of attention as her maids and her parents fussed over her health. In her past life as Rianne, she never received this kind of care.
Rianne had been stabbed and poisoned but no one was there to care for her. Her mother was indifferent and rejected all her phone calls.
Ellendise smiled.
The difference between her past life and her current life was like black and white. The countess adored her and loved her. The count was also the same.
Ellendise was pretty sure that she was doing fine but it seemed that she had miscalculated again.
"Ellen, tell me what happened. Why were you outside the mansion...? Did something happen?" The count asked in a serious manner. "My darling daughter, tell me which bastard hurt you. I swear on my name and as the count that I will make them pay for what they did! The perpetrators would not go unscathed!"
Countess Debora held Ellendise's hands. "Ellen, don't be afraid. Your father and I are not powerless. You are my only daughter. We will do everything in our power to make sure that the one behind this incident rots in jail!"
"Ellen, quickly tell your father. I have already dispatched knights to investigate this. Rest assured that the knights of the Vitron county are not simply for decorations. You can trust them." The Count said to her.
Ellendise maintained the calm smile on her face. Her father, the count has always been a slave to his wife and daughter. Even towards his Nitense, he was very naggy and not as attentive. He still values his son because Nitense as the male heir would be the next successor. Ellendise as a woman would not be able to inherit the title.
And yet he doted on her. He gave her a very rare magical artifact which was her violin that she would play at least three or four times a week. It had been one of her treasured possessions that she cherished the most.
Even Nitense's gift on her tenth birthday could not compare.
Although the Count and Countess seemed to be determined to find the mastermind behind the incident, their actions left Ellendise feeling a sense of danger.
There seems to be something off but she could not tell what.
Ellendise lowered her gaze and smiled sadly. "Father, do you remember the incident from last time? When a monster appeared at the county and an intruder in black came and fought with it..."
The Count immediately caught on. "Don't tell me it was the same person?!"
The Countess placed a hand on her mouth. "Ellen, don't tell me that this person was targeting you? But why? My precious daughter, we have been low-key and we have not offended anyone outside." Countess Debora was sure of her words. Her daughter was a diligent and smart person who always worked hard to attend all of her lessons.
Countess Debora was also sure that her daughter did not like entering the social circle. Countess Debora had raised her daughter and knows more than anyone that her daughter was special. She was not like most children and Ellendise always acted more mature than people her age.
Sometimes, she was too mature since Countess Debora could feel a wall between them no matter how much her daughter acted in an affectionate manner. But as a mother, the Countess could only support her. As parents, it was their responsibility to understand and support their children without question.
The Countess had never asked Ellendise anything and had never forced her to open up because she trusted that a time will come that her daughter would be able to open her own heart. This fact she was certain.
However.
The Count, her husband was different. The Count appeared to be gullible and kind but he would have never inherited his position unless he had gone through hardships and resolved many trials. And to overcome these trials, a man could not afford to be weak.
Though he showed a harmless front, the Count himself was not just a simple figurehead.
"Ellen, were you kidnapped by someone? Did you perhaps escaped and overused your magic which resulted to the mana drain?" The Count asked worriedly but deep inside, he was watching his daughter's reactions and her behavior pattern.
Many strange things surrounded their daughter. Both the Count and Countess knew this and up until now, they had thrown a blind eye to it.
But there was a bottom line.
And they finally couldn't take it.
