Kapitel 6: Apocalypse Of The Dead (2)

"You have to hit them in the head to make them stop." He advised her and she furiously nodded. I hoped that would sink into her skull. We were very few and were not ready to lose each other. Klaus hurried and got to the barricade. We were still trailing behind him as I grabbed Selena so hard. She complained that my grip on her arm was so tight but I didn't care. I would hold her tighter if that would make her not turn back and freeze while these monsters approached.

I had resisted the urge to slap her when she stopped back there. Klaus turned back and cried out. "Shiro! Selena! This way! Hurry!" He waved at us and we quickened our steps. "Okay," I said as I let go of her arm. She groaned with pain and continued running toward us. She soon began to complain about being tired but I hit her and asked her to run faster. She ran along, sobbing. "Let me tell you something Selena, you are not going to make it out of this place alive if you keep running like a snail. These are no longer your classmates. They are now beasts, monsters and they will eat your flesh if you refuse to run." I warned her and she nodded that she understood. This was not the time to behave weakly. It was not the time to be girly. We got to another taller staircase. She first started to climb and I helped her up. She found it very hard getting up and I found it hard as well. Hard in the sense that she was wearing flares and I couldn't stop glancing at her undies that revealed themselves.

I berated myself immediately, not finding it funny that I could make lewd jokes at a moment like this. I was finally able to get her up the stairs. She collapsed on the floor once we got there. At least this should keep these monsters away. It would be very hard for them to find us given the fact that we had climbed up quickly and they were not in sight when we ran to this place. But if we made any noise they would surely come for us and we would be terrified even though the barricade would be there to protect us.

Klaus stopped dead in his tracks as he gazed by the side. He looked at the city. We were on the roof of the school building and it overlooked the city. Smokes were going on in the sky and there were explosions. But that was not all. That was not even why he had stopped. What I saw next shocked me. It was a spine-chilling scene. What we saw was the street. The street was filled with people, people who were no longer human beings. People who had lost their sense of reasoning.

That was when it occurred to me that nobody outside had survived it. The whole thing started from the outside. I shook my head in fear, my mind finding it hard to process what I was seeing. It was unbelievable. How were we going to get out of here? "Shit...what is this?" Klaus said, staring into the distance. Selena looked at the disturbing scene and cried out"What the hell is going on?!!!" She soon flopped to the ground and began to cry. She was scared that something might have happened to her parents.

It looked like nobody survived it but I didn't believe that thought. I knew that despite how bad this looked, there were people who survived the incident and they were somewhere maybe hiding. I knew it even though I had not seen anybody. The only thing we had to do now was to wait for some time before help would come. Because I knew that help was going to come. Even though it seemed to be an outrageous Idea at this moment, I knew that we would soon get out of this mess. But I thought, what if the whole world has become plagued by this disease, what was going to be our fate then? What were we going to do? This was going to be one hell of a battle against the dead beings that did what they did in human bodies.

Selena was still on the floor crying. She could not believe that the world had become this way. She thought the whole thing was only happening at school. I ignored her cries and went to the bannister to look into the distance. Who knows, help might come any time. And if we missed any then we were done with. Crying was not going to save us now, crying was not going to bring back all those that had turned into these monsters and crying wouldn't keep them away. Instead crying would make them come for us. And if they came we all were going to die. We all had to man up, face what was in front of us and fight it until our last.

If we could make it out of this place then we were going to fight for it. But if we kept behaving like cry babies then we were not going to make it out of here alive. I turned around and went towards Selena who was flopped on the floor. I grabbed her arm and stared into her eyes, my jaws tightened in anger. I asked her to shut up immediately. She did without complaining. "Listen to me Selena, and listen carefully. You are not the only person here who has a family. I have a family and Klaus has.

And we are not crying. Crying won't solve the problem, instead, it will bring more problems. I want you to shut up and stop crying. There is every possibility that your family or our families are safe. So I want you to shut up and look around since help might come. Go around, look for anything that can help us get the f*ck out of here. A phone would be very helpful" I said with a tone of finality, leaving no room for argument. But first, I must tell you how it all began.

Kapitel 7: Memories

Shiro was outside thinking as he was bent on the rail. "I'll be your wife, Shiro." He remembered his childhood days with Selena. He remembered their childhood antics and would always laugh at them. He remembered how close they used to be until she came of age and no longer regarded me anymore. It pained him so much when he saw her behave that way. And it was what led him to be outside. He had been chased out of the class because of his insolent behaviour as he kept disturbing her even when she got angry.

He was asked to go to the proprietor's office but he had boycotted that and was leaning on a rail that overlooked the school compound. He was deep in thoughts as he leaned there. He remembered how his eyes would light happily then and he would ask her if she meant it. In the background, the voices of those in the classes rang out clear and loud as they repeated what they were being taught.

"Really? Like, really?" Young him would say as he gazed at her. He had never gotten tired of her, she told him only a day or so ago that he had become so cold and distant and that she did not like it. He did not care.

"Yeah, let's make a pinky promise." He would say and they would wrap their little fingers and giggle. Then his mind fast-forwarded to when they had gotten into high school.

He remembered that they had a little quarrel on the staircase that morning and some of the students were watching. He felt that she no longer wanted to talk to him, that she was keeping her distance to make him go away. That was what bothered him and he had come to redress his unhappy lot but she wasn't having it. She wanted him to see the reasons why it was happening that way and why he should not be angry.

She would always continue to argue until it looked like he was the one who was at fault. "You are a straight A Student."He said to her that morning, that they were no longer going to be in the same class and he was shocked. It occurred to him that he was going to lose her. That was when it occurred to him that he was certainly going to lose her to some other guy.

"You just don't get it, Shiro." She tried to defend herself but he was not buying it. He simply couldn't believe that she would leave him that way and look back at how possessive and how he stuck like a leech to her, he shuddered at how awkward it looked now. He sounded stupid back then, he thought as a smile crossed his face. His mind went back to their childhood days again.

"We're in the same class again. Good Times." He remembered that they would make their pinky promise once again with the threat that usually followed.

"Pinky promise. If you lie I will make you swallow a thousand needles." They said and wrapped their little finger with that of the other. But things had begun to fall apart between them and he felt that it wasn't going to last long before they would finally part ways.

Ever since he had had the dream he wanted himself anymore. He would always think about it whenever he was free and that separated him from everyone else. His friends would complain that he no longer spoke to them and he no longer cared. Sometimes he would go on for a whole week without even asking about them. This made them pretty worried about him.

Selena was most worried as she would always berate Klaus whenever he began to keep to himself again. It looked like he was getting tired of her as if he had something big troubling him that he was not willing to share with anyone. And from what she saw, it was clear that whatever it was that troubled him was great and he was slowly sinking into depression.

What pained her most was that no matter how much she tried to force out the truth from him, it seemed he would always lie to her by telling Amber stupid stories about monsters and beasts that prowled the world, killing and killing all that was left in it. At a point she thought he was going mad, she thought he had lost his senses.

But he had not, it was just that nobody believe him, nobody found what he was saying reasonable and they believe that he was getting retarded or something like that. He remembered the first time she had approached him. He told her everything that wasn't what kept him thinking. He lied to her and every time she caught him he had to cover it up with a bigger lie. She soon noticed it and called him aside one day. She told him to tell her everything she needed to know about it and that she only wanted the truth this time around.

That was when he told her about his dream. And how it felt so real to him. She did not believe him. She told him that she didn't believe a nightmare would make him think like that. He wanted to show her the imprint on his arm that he had received when he was in his dream and how she could explain that. There was nothing to explain because it felt so real. After gazing at him for a while she clenched her fist in anger when Shiro told him the whole story.

He should have known that she had more serious things to attend to but here he was telling her stories that sounded so stupid. She was simmering in anger for a while. After looking at him for a while she straightened up and asked him. "Are you stupid?" He was shocked when she said that but he kept to himself, having heard even worse things from others since he started keeping to himself.
