"Asha! Why isn't it opening?!" — Icto was panicking next to me, trying to help me open the door. But they wouldn't flick.
"Shit! I don't know!!" — We all tried as hard as we could, even the cat scratching the metal surface, while the growing mass of death was coming closer.
And when I tried desperately punching at the door, with crying hopes that they would finally let go, my fist landed on an elevator button.
A silent sound rung in my ears, and the metal door to the elevator opened smoothly, like if there never was a power outrage to begin with. The light coming from inside, like a ray of hope from the heaven, was inviting struggled souls in.
But only one could take the granted ticket to the neverland. As it finally hit me in the face, the realization that we can't go...
Together.
The death is at our backs. But it won't go for both at once.
I can't tie myself to him, and neither can he to me. The only thing I attract is destruction. All the things I've had... He has seen them get lost. My empty home, with no living soul. The RR headquarters being torn to oblivion. I can't afford him to be the next one sucked in the void that is like my shadow, following me everywhere I am. I promised myself he would be safe. He is safe wherever I am not around.
The fate of his brother, I couldn't bear it if he ended the same. Because I couldn't fix anything.
I pushed him from behind, into the light of the elevator. His violet hair swayed, falling onto the ground with an impact.
I said my goodbye... Too harshly.
Only the purple of his eyes shined with insanity, turning his head towards me, as I pushed the button to the lowest floor. The basements, he will find his way there. I'm going to escape to the opposite. I will meet everyone at the top, where the heaven is the closest.
"ASHA! STOP! WHAT ARE YO-." — His muffled voice screamed at me from behind the swiftly closing door. A reached out hand towards me, I was scared until the last moment that it would be crushed by the door's force.
But the image of his mad face disappeared quickly, as the elevator got to work. His yells were dissolving with the growing steps of the soldiers, and the anxious meowing of the cat I forgot was still there. The first bullet has melted with the metal door of the elevator, right next to my head.
"Did you forget that I can't go... With you? I made the decision... For you."
I gathered in all the despair haunting my mind. The fresh air flowed into my lungs, as the negative energy filled my fist. Where am I to go, I don't care. As long as I'm alive, as long as everyone I care for is safe, I'm going to run. Even if it means coming back to the place I came from, I already did it. What is left now, is unraveling the power inside of me. The real meaning behind all of this.
With the bullets swooshing around me, I screamed, letting everything out of me, as the punch landed on the lock of the metal door.
The cat jumped, startled. The blood gushed out of my arm, as the clicking noise finally let the door open. A bullet has pierced through my shoulder, striking my body with an immeasurable pain. My fingers, I couldn't feel any of them. But I didn't think about it anymore. Was this... Another blood lock I have met previously?
It would be faster for me to descend down, but I sent him there. I chose the harder way for my liberty. Even the cat knew that we had to go up, with its sly moves, rushing towards the rooftop. Rushing up the staircase, I eagerly grabbed the handrail and dragged myself every stair up. The metal wailed under my heavy steps, the blood droplets fell on it like tears.
I could hear them follow me, strong and armored men, with the sounds of their guns firing at me mercilessly. So tired... I want to get to the top.
I can't get weighed down... Like him...
Another shot bruised my neck. And yet another smooched my calf. Just let me... Get to the roof...
I saw the cat's tail disappear behind the small opening in the wall, like a window towards the freedom. I pushed the door before me with the force of my falling body. It was getting hot, my skin seemed to get sweaty and boiling. The breeze of fresh air welcomed me pleasantly, as well as the sight of the concrete surroundings. The color of the sky was near black, a deep scarlet, the same as the color of my blood. Finally... The breeze of the outside...
As the rain of bullets swished next to my ears, I felt desperate to run further. Yet, the growing pain was making me exhausted, the soaked clothes in stains I don't even know where they came from. I eagerly gasped for the cold air, looking around for a way of escape. The nearby building... It's roof. He told me there would be a passage within somewhere...
Between the edge and the another roof was a few meters distance. Right where the wall was ending, the cat was glaring at me with hope. I couldn't wait.
I rushed towards the crevice. This was about to be a long distance to pass.
Yet, when I went for a jump...
A single metal projectile messed it all up.
Sinking in my flesh, a burning sensation drilling in my right thigh.
When I attempted to bounce myself from the edge, I felt as if the whole ground below me collapsed into the void.
The feeling of falling down was never so strucking. One's heart coming all the way up to the throat, I couldn't even scream.
I felt the air drifting through my hair, as my arm was crushed by the force of my body falling on it. The splashing sound of my bones, smashed inside of my arm, made my head dizzy. I wanted to vomit so hard. I wanted to cry so much. I couldn't move an inch, laying on a concrete floor two levels below the roof. A narrow link between both the buildings, I don't know if it was something to be glad about at all.
What if I fell all the way down to the ground...
Would my misery finally end?
Every attempt to move ended in me losing my mind. I didn't have the power to even scream. My whole body was paralyzed in fear and uselessness, as the unbearable pain emanated from all the limbs in my body.
What did I do to... deserve that?
I awaited them coming at me with a wave of bullets any second now. With my eyes closed, I counted in my mind. How many seconds have passed? Is Icto... Safe?
But I didn't even notice when the sounds of the soldiers faded.
It was now just a ringing, itchy noise in my ears, like if it was the flow of my blood. It grew, as the feeling in my fingers was getting distorted. The vision before my eyes got narrower.
The world felt so distant right now...
I don't want it to be... Like that...
A soft texture smooched my cheeks, a black storm of little hairs. A pair of heterochromatic eyes observing me with growing sorrow. Why is it here... The creature always accompanying me... When the worst happens...
I felt cold drops falling on my face, like tears from the sky. Bit by bit, it became dark like void, not even the stars visible. The formation of artificial clouds blocked my only sight – the sky – from before my eyes. The heavens cried for me, wiping off the blood from my wounds. The red liquid melted into the concrete, flowing towards the edge. Everything around was soaked, my hair, the pitiful cat, trying to push me with its head. The water was filling my clothes, the pores in my skin. So pleasant, as I slowly drifted away to my promised oasis.
The moment came, where I didn't even have the strength to breathe.
But then, in the calming noise of the rain, I sensed the puddles being disrupted by the steps of one person.
His feet touched my fingers, being stretched inertly on the ground.
A dark silhouette emerged, almost melting with the darkness of the sky and my mind.
Only the pair of his mesmerizing blue eyes shined, like the stars I expected to see.
But then it all faded, before I could realize who was the one standing above me.
