As soon as David came back to the restaurant it hit him hard that how did Katherine know about this place. Did she follow him or did she actually ask someone to do it for her, he couldn't expect any less from her, it was Katherine he was thinking about, she could go to any length if she wants something. In either case, Katherine knew about his intentions towards Sabrina. He need not explain it to her if she already knows it but instead, he was glad that she had already saved him from the fuss. But what made him relentless was how he would explain it to Sabrina.
Maybe he shouldn't try explaining it right now, it could wait and it's not even something that is of utter importance. He needs more time with her before he gets to the stage of disclosing everything about his life. It's not like he wanted to hide it but he wanted to remain that ordinary person around her. It made him happy and God knows how she would take everything once he tells her about himself and his family.
"Wait, let me do it," David says, trying to take away the dirty dishes from Sabrina's hands but Sabrina keeps a good hold onto them.
"Thanks but I'll do it, David." She smiles before moving away from him.
It wasn't her usual smile but somewhat forced, David observed.
He holds her hand to stop her but she wriggles it out of his grasp as soon as he held her.
"I'll take care of it, David, find something else to do."
David notices that it wasn't her usual behavior when she was moving away without eye contact. She was hesitant and more confined but he decides to let it slide.
During their shift, David tried to talk and pull some jokes to which Sabrina didn't seem much attentive but reserved towards her work. It was an awkward kind of reservation when it wasn't even necessary for her to repeatedly wipe the tables clean when they had already been cleaned. It was as if she was deliberately trying to avoid David.
David realized that something was on her mind and he wanted her to tell him and if in any way he could be of help, he'd certainly try his best.
When their shift ended David, as usual, walked Sabrina home but today she was persistent on walking home by herself to which he didn't agree and ended up walking her home.
Throughout the way she was quiet and it annoyed him.
They were walking closely. The thought of holding her hand was strong as he saw her hand close to his side. David intentionally touched her hand with the back of his but she immediately distanced herself away from him.
David confirmed that something really disturbing was on her mind. It startled him how can he read her so easily when he had not known her for quite long. But this was it to test David's patience, he couldn't take it anymore and thus confronted her by stopping her to face him.
"Tell me what's on your mind."
"Nothing." She says, looking away from his eyes.
"You're lying." But she didn't seem ready yet to admit.
"My house is here, I should better go." She moves to side but he blocks her path with his body in her way.
"I can't let you go with that face." He moves closer to her and she steps back.
"David, maybe we rushed with everything."
"What do you mean?"
"I mean I can't do it."
"Do what?" He presses her. Before she could try to say another word, David's phone rang and when he fished it out to see who the caller was, Sabrina took her chance and went straight towards her house.
David watches her leave while his father rings his phone. The ringtone dies but it didn't take long for his phone to ring again.
He knew it was something urgent unless his father wouldn't have called him.
