Kapitel 7: Under One Umbrella

Sabrina was done cleaning the kitchen. She went outside the kitchen to see if he was still outside the restaurant but to her disappointment she found the broom alone, standing in the corner of the restaurant.

Pitter patter, she hears the raindrops falling down the ground. She walks over towards the big glass window of the restaurant and peeks outside.

For some people, rain might be a gesture of something calm and cool but for her, it has always brought a lonely feeling. At a time like this people usually like to be with their loved ones while she has always been with herself. As she focuses looking outside, it starts raining heavily. She curses under her breath for not bringing an umbrella with her today as the weather forecast said it wouldn't rain today.

The day came down to the end of her shift and she walks back to change her uniform. After changing and carrying her small bag with her she bids her goodbye to her boss and arrives at the doorstep of the restaurant. Looking outside the glass door of the restaurant she remembers the day when it had last rained and she didn't bring an umbrella even though her mother was persistent with her to take it but she refused, saying that the forecast didn't mention any rain that day.

She scoffs and puts on her hat over her head and brings her small bag over her face and runs outside the restaurant. She runs in the direction of a nearby convenience store but she stops in midway and notices that suddenly she had stopped getting wet when she could still hear the rainfall. Removing her small bag out of her face she finds herself underneath an umbrella. Looking to her right she finds David who was holding the umbrella above both of their heads.

"Anni o sai yogh," David says, looking at her and Sabrina as dumbfounded she was, breaks into a fit of laughter. "At least now I know where you learned your Korean from," David says when she overcomes her composure.

"Oh yeah? Where do you think from?"

"Of course working with your bald Korean boss." He says, rolling his eyes and she giggles.

David liked the sound of her giggle.

"No!" She says in an obvious tone.

"Don't tell me you're Korean? You don't look like one."

"Ting ting ting! You are right at that one." She turns and continues to walk ahead while David follows her, holding the umbrella above.

"Then where'd you learn Korean from?"

"This might sound stupid but I actually learned it from watching Korean dramas." David chuckles, hearing her answer.

"You sound big Korean fan."

"I like their culture." She shrugs. "And by the way what are you doing here?"

"I... I was waiting outside when it started raining and then I-"

"You were waiting outside? Why?" She asks, stopping in her tracks and David stops too. He looks at her before answering.

"Well, I thought it wouldn't be very nice to leave you like that considering you didn't bring an umbrella with you the last time I was with you." She then notices his wet shirt which wouldn't have been wet if he had an umbrella with him and she doesn't even remember him having an umbrella before either.

"You went to buy it?"

"I... Yes. The convenience store wasn't that far."

"But I thought you had no money with you?"

"I don't."

"Then?" She urges.

"Umm... I..." David says, looking nowhere in particular.

"You were lying to me weren't you?" David looks at her but doesn't say anything. Sabrina starts walking along the sidewalk and David follows her, trying to keep her under his umbrella. Sabrina spots a shelter under a big umbrella of cafe table nearby and runs towards it with her bag over her face and comes to stop when she reaches there. David follows her to the big umbrella where she sits on a chair and puts her bag down on the table. "I can manage to go from here myself." She says, putting her hat on the table.

"No, I didn't lie to you." Sabrina turns her face to look at him and he was looking down. "I exchanged my father's watch with him for a day in order to get this umbrella." He looks her in the eye. "My father gave me his antique watch on my eighteenth birthday, guess the shopkeeper knew about antiques thus he agreed with the deal."

Sabrina was embarrassed that without giving him the chance to speak she concluded the idea on her own. She hasn't acted like this before and it angered her to why she acted like this now. He was so nice to her and yet she thought he lied to her.

"I am sorry David." She deeply felt the urge to apologize.

"No, it's okay. I'm used to it." David waves off his hand in the air but Sabrina felt a small stab in her heart with his last words. She wanted to ask him what he meant by it, was he used to people being impolite to him or was it something else? but she restrained herself.

The rain had slowed down, they were quite together. Sabrina sat on the chair while David was still standing underneath the big umbrella and the one he had bought was still in his hands. No one said anything for a quite few seconds.

"I think I should go now." She stands up. "Thank-you David. It was nice meeting you." She says, looking at David and he nods. She puts on her hat back on her head and turns to leave. She was about to walk out of the big umbrella when David whisks her around to face him. Her face was inches away from David's, her breathing was slow and steady, her one hand was set firmly on David's chest while the other hand was in David's firm hold. They looked into each other's eyes. David's hairs were slightly wet and few strands stick to his forehead, few droplets glistened across his face.

"You wouldn't want my one-day emotional-watch-exchange to go to waste, would you?" David spoke first, breaking the silence and looks into her dark brown eyes. "Please, let me walk you home." He pleads.

"I... I don't know we just met and-"

"I know it may sound weird but trust me I have never been this stalker but anyhow I like it." Sabrina chuckles at his attempt to make her laugh and he laughs with her.

"Okay..." She smiles looking at him.

"Really? I mean are you okay with me stalking you?" She throws her head back with laughter and he smiles looking at her, wondering why Katherine's laugh did never have this effect on him before.
