Kapitel 24: (Epilogue)
Zipping out of space, Hat Kid's ship arrives just outside the TTA HQ.
Mu pushes her face to the windshield glass. "This place looks like a futuristic utopia. What's with the big wavy bubble?"
"Hey! Face off the glass." Hat Kid says pulling Mu back.
Bow takes Mu's hand. "That, my mustached friend, is the barrier that keeps our HQ in the present time and safe from timepiece manipulation."
They dock the ship and exit out the windshield's hatch door.
Bow begins taking Mu towards the council chambers. "I'm going to take Mu to notify and hopefully approve the council on our new recruit." Bow tells Hat Kid.
Hat Kid sits down at a table. "Yeah, you do that. I'm gonna order some food and then go over there myself, so see you later, Bow."
As Bow and Mu leave, Hat Kid orders some space nutrients and takes out a piece of paper and a pen from her hat. "This is definitely going to take time to translate... there I go talking to myself again." She says and begins writing.
"Hey, Hailey!" A voice shouts right behind Hat Kid.
"Gahhh!" Hat Kid turns around and slaps the the blue-marked face time traveler.
"Owww."
Hat Kid gets a little panicked. "T-Timmy, I'm so sorry. What is it with people scaring me from behind?"
"No no, it was well deserved. I'm sorry. Do you mind if I sit with you?"
"Oh... sure, go right ahead."
"Thanks." Timmy says, taking a seat across from Hat Kid. "That's a real nasty scar you got under your eye... not to mention there's no eye above it."
"That's real comforting, dude. Why don't you just rip my good eye out for me!"
"I'm sure whatever happened to it wasn't pleasant. I'm really sorry that happened to you, Hailey. If you ask me, I think it makes your face look awesome... n-not that I wished your face to get messed up"
"Hmm... Thank you for your concern and complement."
Hat Kid's space nutrients arrive and she starts eating. "I haven't eaten in so long... Do you want some, Timmy?"
"Umm, no thanks. How have your timepiece recovery duties been going?"
"Ehhhhhh... very... different than usual. You can tell by my damaged appearance... It wasn't fun.
"I understand. So what are you writing there?"
"I'm writing to a princess; or I should say queen now. I'm writing to tell her about some things I lied about. Mostly just little stuff... nothing of interest."
"Right right... I noticed you're not wearing a cape, is that a story of interest?"
"If you're talking about the new one I had when I saw you last, it was burned away by a moth god."
"Sounds like quite the imagination you got there. The jagged flow was really cool. If it weren't for the bright colors I would have called it quite edgy haha. The cape you wore served you no extra good; you know?"
"Haha, you know, the queen pretty much said the same thing when I first met her. It's just style, Timmy."
Bow Kid returns to Hat Kid without Mu. "Hey, Timmy, can you leave us for a moment."
"Yeah, I'll leave you two be. It was nice talking to you, Hailey, see you around." Timmy says walking away.
"You too, Timmy."
Bow Kid sits in his place. "I've got some news for you."
Hat Kid finishes her letter and decides to listen up. "Alright, what is it?"
"Mu is getting time traveler blood right now. I also may have made a little request for your position in the TTA."
"What the peck did you do?"
"You're amazing, you were able to save that forbidden ruined kingdom without the intended power use of timepieces. From the look of you; it seems you paid the price for being so reckless." Bow says looking at Hat Kid's lifeblood eye.
"You think I wanted to be in that kingdom in the first place!? Get to the point."
"Look, Hailey, whether you wanted to or not; you're smart so I trust you when I ask you this. I made a request to Tim and he agreed, so I want you to think long and hard about this. How would you like a seat on the council of the TTA?"
"No."
"I said think long and hard!"
"No, Mu was right. I never really liked the TTA anyway, bunch of fools thinking they can control fate for the good of everyone. It's just not fully possible, they've become so complacent yet such control freaks. I think it's because Tim's got the most authority, but that's just my opinion. I'd rather just keep the job I have going from planet to planet and collecting timepieces; thank you very much."
"If that's how you feel then I guess I understand."
Hat Kid puts the letter in her hat and gets up. "I'm gonna go check in with the council now."
Hat Kid gets to the council chambers with Bow Kid following behind her. They enter to find CEO of time, Tim, floating with relaxation.
"Hello, three eyed freak." Hat Kid tells Tim.
"Hello, one eyed freak." Tim responds.
Hat Kid looks at him offended then just laughs. "That was... a good response."
"You realize we're going to have to put a new tracker in your good eye, right?"
"You can take your tracker and shove it-"
"Hat Kid!" Bow interrupts.
Tim stops floating. "I've recently just received word from an informative that you did not wipe the memories of yourself from everyone you met on planet 10 dash 5 dash 2017. Is this true? I know you're not one to lie."
"It... it's true. But how do you know that?!"
"I've decided to pardon the informant from the crime for coming forward about it. That person is your friend, Beatrice."
"W-What?!" Bow yells.
Hat Kid lowers the brim of her hat. "My instinctive thoughts about the Nightmare King's illusions were right."
"Hat Kid, thi-"
"I don't wanna hear it!" Hat Kid interrupts.
Tim snaps a gesture and his Friend teleports in. "Friend, take Beatrice away now. I want to talk to Hailey alone." Tim's Friend picks Bow Kid up by her shoulders and begins sinking into the ground with her. "Hailey! I would never sell you out! Get your weird tendrils off me!" Bow says to Tim's Friend, shaking her arms; trying to get free. Once Bow is taken away, leaving just Tim and Hat Kid, He approaches the saddened girl.
"Tim... she was the only other person besides myself who knew. I can't believe she'd do that."
"Hailey, I'm sentencing you to live the rest of your life teaching new recruits and never leaving the TTA HQ. Can't have you risk going through time and messing with things. You are far too wayward at this point for us to let you collect timepieces, even with a partner. I believe in giving people a second... or in this case a third chance. I'm talking about the Mustached Girl, not you, you repeatedly rebel against what you're told to do. Did you not expect any repercussions for your repeated actions? You've broken one of the strictest rules I enforce. You didn't wipe the common people's memory of you two girls."
"Peck you, I made friends and I intend to keep them."
"You're lucky nothing has gone wrong because of that. But I'm afraid the bad news for you doesn't end there. You saved the ruined kingdom of Hallownest without intended use of timepiece power. Do you understand how dangerous that was?! The unknown forces you could have unleashed onto the universe."
"Perhaps it was dangerous and could have doomed the universe, but I saved Hallownest the non-standard way. I did. Me! If you would stop being so scared and complacent, and actually put effort where it's needed, we could help everywhere."
"Look where doing so got you. A lost eye and an aggravated soul. Not everything can be prevented, Hailey, why can't you see that we do the best we can?!"
"I saved lives, so to me... it was no cost too great. Those of you who explored Hallownest realized that you couldn't save it with timepieces so you left it rot. How many other worlds have we left to die because you couldn't care to put our people in danger for the sake of helping others! Isn't that our job?! To help where others couldn't do anything about it?!"
"Our job is not to help everyone though."
Tim's Friend teleports in.
"My Friend, take our friend here to the holding cells where Mu is being held." Tim's Friend makes some weird splashing sounds then extends its tendrils out and consumes Hat Kid's hat.
"Yo what the peck? That's my hat!"
After a moment, Tim's Friend takes the hat out of his body, placing the void free top hat back on Hat Kid's head.
"Your hat was made of void?!" Tim says in anger. "Void is too dangerous to control, the only exception is my friend here who is born of void and the sands of time. He is under my influence, and not meant to be a threat."
"Void defeated the creature that kept Hallownest frozen in a weird state of time. We need to arm ourselves in void. If a major threat broke the barrier that keeps our HQ safe from time manipulation; what then?! If the power of timepieces can't stop it then what will?! We're all peaking dead!"
"I've heard enough nonsense, take her away. I'll get someone to impound her ship as well."
"Peck this! I quit!"
"Careful with your words, Hailey. The only way you quit the TTA is death."
As Tim's Friend holds Hat Kid in place, Tim takes her para-nail, mantis claws, and dream piercer mask.
Tim's Friend teleports Hat Kid away to the prison cells. After Tim's Friend locks Hat Kid in a cell across from Mu, he speaks, "̴Y̴o̸u̵ ̷w̴i̸l̷l̴ ̷b̷e̴g̶i̶n̴ ̸t̵r̵a̴i̷n̸i̵n̷g̷ ̷M̷u̸ ̵t̸o̷m̷o̶r̶r̴o̶w̴ ̶m̸o̶r̵n̵i̸n̶g̴.̴"̶
"Since when could you speak?!" Hat Kid says.
"̴S̷i̵n̴c̵e̴ ̶t̶h̴e̶ ̸d̵a̵y̵ ̴I̸ ̵w̴a̸s̸ ̵c̵r̵e̷a̸t̴e̷d̴." Tim's Friend responds, floating away into nothing.
Hat Kid lies on her back and puts her hat over her face till she hears Mu's voice say, "I'm getting taught by you of all people... Wellll, at least it's someone familiar."
"I'm not gonna do that." Hat Kid says.
"But you have to, Tim's friend said so." Mu says all snobby.
"Like I listen to what Tim says, let alone his friend... more like his slave."
"We're locked in metal bar cages... And I thought this place was futuristic. I already hate this place... why did you and your friend even bring me here?!"
"Stop whining! I'm trying to rest."
Mu frowns at her. After a few minutes, Hat Kid sits up and rummages through her hat.
"Hat Kid... do you mind if I talk to you for a bit... I'm quite lonely at the moment."
"Be quiet, Mu."
"I liked you better when you didn't talk!" Mu yells at her.
Hat Kid takes out some pink crystal fuel and a piece of paper from her hat, "Didn't we all."
Hat Kid starts writing down something. "Hey, Mu." She calls out.
"Did you change your mind?"
"No... okay kind of. You're a human right?"
"Yeees..." Mu says in question. "I am."
"How old are you?"
"Twelve."
"Okay, so in 6 years you should be free to make a choice of career in the TTA. Pursue and become a timepiece collector and the rest will follow. What I'm about to do will get me expelled from this place forever but... I thought about what you said... Perhaps we can overthrow the TTA... f-for the better of course. To see justice. The only reason I want to wait is because you could learn a lot from this place to help us in the future. You could gain skills and even gear."
"Ooo okay, are you gonna escape right now?"
"Yes indeed." Hat Kid drops the crystals on the floor and begins stomping on them, making the crystals begin to emit a small orange glow. "You might want to stand back." Hat Kid says, with Mu stepping to the back wall of her cell.
Hat Kid gives one last hard stomp to the crystals and covers herself, getting blasted back by the explosion, hitting the wall. The bars are busted open and the alarm starts blaring the same sound as Hat Kid's intruder alert alarm.
She pulls herself up and runs over to Mu's cell, handing her the paper she was writing on. "Take this. It's a date and coordinates to where I'll meet you, you'll learn to understand them within 6 years probably." She tells Mu.
A guard comes in to see the escapee, "Stop where you are Haile-" Hat Kid punches the guard across the face, knocking them down hard. "Ow, my hand!" Hat Kid says.
She looks up and sees Mu with a happy smile. "That was right in their jaw... nice." Mu says with a smirk.
"See you in another time, Mu." Hat Kid says running off.
Avoiding as many people as possible and running down an ally, Hat Kid is chased by more security. She gets trapped on both ends. "Short lived break out... yeah right." Hat Kid jumps off the ground and pushes herself up a wall, jumping back and forth till she reaches the top. "I forgot how thrilling it was to do that."
She starts parkouring and sticking to the tops of buildings till she reaches a ledge to see someone below trying to get in her ship. Hat Kid sees Roombi sitting at the windshield hatch, communicating with the other time traveler. "Don't you dare let them take my ship Roombi."
Hat Kid pulls her sleeve back. "Tim is a pecking idiot for not taking my timewatch." She pushes the 'teleport to ship' button but nothing happens. "I have no more crystals and low power, making it too out of range to teleport to... Why am I still talking to myself!?"
She looks over the edge. "Peck me..." Hat Kid backs up a lot then begins sprinting forward and takes a tremendous dive off the building. As gravity takes her, she prepares and hits her timewatch before smacking into the ground. Teleporting into her ship, she blinks with a sigh of relief. Hat Kid rushes over to the pilot's seat and prepares for instant take off.
Bow Kid runs up to the ship. "Hat Kid! What are you doing?!"
"What I believe is right. For the sake of fate, the universe, and the flow of time."
Tim approaches as well. "Unless you stop right now, you will be an outcast for as long as time shall keep you alive, Hat Kid!"
Hat Kid gives him an evil glare. "You don't have the right to say that name." She gets the ship undocked and zips off into space.
She goes over to Roombi and picks him up. "Nice job, buddy."
"Boop beep." Roombi smiles with its eyes.
Hat Kid begins digging through her hat till she pulls out the Grimm Troupe cloak Grimm made her. She puts the dark cloak around herself. "If I'm gonna be an enemy in their eyes... I might as well look the part."
