I had woken up earlier than the troops today. I stretched in my sleeping bag, shaking the sleep from my body. As I stood to pack my gear, silhouette sitting in front of my tent caught my eye. Must be William. I thought. It should have been normal to know that he was protecting me, yet my heart pounded anyway. I unzipped it slowly and peered out at whomever it was. My suspicion was correct, it was William. He was asleep, his hat pulled down to hide his face. He's... Guarding me... I gently tapped his shoulder and he woke with a start drawing his knife. The sight of his sleepy face drew a bashful smile across my face.
"Are you alright?" He whispered, shielding me from anyone who might look upon us and report back to the dog. I nodded and motioned for him to come in. He followed me quietly, putting his knife back in his belt.
