Kapitel 483: Chapter 483

"Nora. Nora I love you…"

No. No that isn't how you begin an apology letter. Christian crumbled the stationary and shot it into the wastebasket in the corner. He put his face into his hands and looked down at the blank paper in front of him, waiting it's turn to be crumbled and thrown away. Was it all for nothing? The care? The love? The work they put in? The divorce papers he received that morning were a cruel reminder of the end of the road they took and the new prospect of a detour he wasn't expecting to have to turn down. It hurt.

A knock at the door distracted his thoughts and Gilley cleared his throat as he opened the door.

"What is it?" Christian was in no mood for interactions with anyone.

"Me and the rest of the fellas are going out to Hugh's Pub for a quick pint. Come out with us. Not as our boss but as our best mate. You need a break from all this heaviness."

Hugh's was five miles from the Scottish estate that Christian and his family were staying at. It was a lovely little place to get absolutely knackered in pure privacy without the public scrutiny London pubs always seemed to offer.

"You're right, mate. Let's go. I need a drink."

He was tired of all the love and devotion he had to watch day in and day out between his parents. He wanted nothing more than for his mother and Erik to be happy but it was difficult to avoid the pangs of loneliness and pain gnawing at him whenever he thought of Nora and the life they would never have. She was back in the states and the two calls he made that she actually answered ended in anger from him and apathy from her. Losing their child changed her. Losing Nora changed him. Erik was right about one thing, love can open you heart and just as intensely, turn it to stone. Self preservation was a capricious bastard sometimes. He knew she would never take him back, but the guilt and the lack of closure was eating him alive. And so was the emptiness of the hole she left inside of him.

The pub was crowded as usual for a Saturday night. Gilley made his way through the crowd, stopping at the bar to order the pints. Since he was given the time of day by Isla, the love of his life, Gilley was a new man. They had been seeing each other for a few months when the family had finally caught on. Literally caught them in the garden with his trousers around his ankles, and Isla in full embarrassment mode up against a shrub. Erik found them and promised not to say a word with the agreement that they would spill it and they did the next night at dinner. Of course, Gilley had their blessing when he stated his intentions. They all knew no one would ever or could ever love her more.

"This is my best mate! Let's have a round for Christian the first!" Gilley raised his glass to the crowd and everyone cheered. He had been elected high monarch and would be moving back into the palace soon. This was his last night to be a normal bloke for a long time.

"To Christian!" People cheered and raised their glasses.

Christian made his way to the loo after his third pint. Or maybe his fourth? He had lost count. The line was long and he was bladder was bursting at the seam, so he made a beeline outside and on the dark side of the building, relieved himself for what felt like forever. As he began to head back to the entrance, a voice caught his attention. A blonde woman with the most beautifully smoky voice was pacing back and forth on a cell phone.

"No. No you don't get to call me that anymore! I am not your possession, you cannot and will not own me!" Christian tried to sneak around the opposite side as to not interrupt the obviously already pissed off young woman.

"I told you, this is last time, Rex. You promised me you wouldn't hurt me again! It's over. I am my own person and I don't care how much money or power or poetry or bullshit laced tenderness you throw at me. It's over!" She ended the call and threw her phone into her purse, making a low-growling noise. "I hate men! No. I hate intellectual boys who think their brains make them exceptions to common decency and connection!" She was yelling and it took Christian a moment to realize she was now facing him and speaking in his direction.

He took a step into the light and watched her pace again.

"Oh. Oh I am terribly sorry. I didn't mean to interrupt. I was trying to…" he tried to say. His wavy hair was blowing in the breeze and as she stepped closer, she reached up to pat it down. It was then he noticed how drop dead gorgeous she was. She was small in stature and had the most piercing green eyes he had ever seen. Her blonde hair was wild, long and curly. She reminded him of a fairy. Of something light and clean and wild. A nymph, but with just the right amount of curves. She had soft, rounded cheeks that were still pink from her fiery call with a foolish bloke who didn't know what he had, obviously. Her soft, small lips pressed tightly as she seemed to be thinking about something she shouldn't be and freckles, she had little brown spots of adorable pigment lightly adorning her little nose. He had a type and she definitely fit it. No, no way, Christian.. he thought to himself. You are in no shape to be thinking what kind of woman your type is or about what this woman might look like in your bed.

"You're beautiful," words that were in his mind were now out in the open, but the words weren't his. They came from a soft and sexy voice below him. They were her words. "I'm sorry I bashed men to you, you didn't deserve that. I lost myself for a bit and you happened to be standing close to me with your cock out. Sorry. Truly sorry. Fuck him anyway. Fancy a drag?" She said in a slight Scottish accent as she lit a cigarette and sighed.

Christian wasn't sure what to do. She was brassy and fiery and forward. Yet fragile and small. There was a sadness in her eyes that looked like it had buried so deep, even she would forget about it at times. But it was there. She was all of these things. Things most girls weren't. And she wasn't like Nora. She was her own person and he liked that there couldn't be a comparison between them.

"No. No thank you." He managed to stumble out. "I'm Christian." He introduced himself without wanting to come off like a creep.

"Allegra," she said, smiling. She extended her hand to shake his but he just stood there, staring at her, a carnal need taking over him that he had never felt before. He didn't just feel attracted to her, he felt protective of her. She was arousing something in him that he knew would only grow the more he looked at those piercing emerald eyes.

He was awestruck by her beauty. He was smitten. He wasn't sure if it was the ale or the night or the divorce papers or just… her. But the next thing he said shocked even him as the words came out.

"Would you like to come home with me so I can show you not all men are careless, selfish wankers?"

She smiled, "oh yeah? You could change my mind on that? How?" He looked into her eyes and without wavering said, "By pleasing you all night, showing you that goddesses are to be worshipped, not owned."

She dropped her cigarette and smiled.

"Well, what are you standing there waiting for, written consent? Let's go." She walked closer to him and he grabbed her, pulling her close to him as he smashed his lips to hers. She tasted of strawberries and smoke and whiskey. And she smelled like flowers and magic. The electricity between them was so strong he thought me might burn alive right there.

He grabbed the keys from Gilley, wrapped his arm around Allegra's waist and left the bar.
