Kapitel 358: Chapter 358

"How is he, Charles?" Pearl asked over breakfast. Dylan walked in, interrupting.

"Good morning." He said awkwardly. What was his problem? Pearl thought.

"He's stubborn. Not wanting to get up and work at all. The doctors say they won't even consider surgery until he shows some motivation. He won't eat." Charles said solemnly.

"He needs to find a way to get over that. I meant it. I won't go back there until he does." Pearl said, sipping her tea.

Charles slammed his hands on the table, startling both her and Dylan. Jim stood in the corner of the room, looking sternly at Charles.

"Did you ever stop to think about it the fact that this might not be about you?" Charles said. "My god woman, why are you being so selfish!" He said.

Pearl put down her cup. Dylan was just about to say something when Pearl stood up and walked over to where Charles was seated.

"Allow me to explain something to you. First of all, I am queen. And you should be mindful of how you speak to me. Now, I have been lied to, cheated on, have jumped in front of cars, nearly killing myself, going covert like a goddamned James Bond only more terrifying and real, to expose corruption that should have long been taken care of before I came along. I have given birth to a lineage and have taken on the responsibility of ruling a country I wasn't even born into. All for this fucked up sham of a family you call "Royal". Exactly how much shit do I need to eat before I get a little respect around here, too?" Pearl said calmly. Charles looked shocked.

"I am no longer participating in things that do not serve me. If Sebastian loves me, loves his children and most of all, loves his country, he will get off of his stubborn, self-pitied ass and show it. It is not my job to do that for him. I've done far more than necessary already. And if you or the prime minister or the people of this country or the pope himself has a problem with that, you can all go fuck yourselves." She said and with that, she walked out of the dining room.

Dylan stifled a laugh and looked at Charles and Jim, neither of them saying a word.

Pearl walked out into the garden and took a deep breath. She was over it. Something inside of her was changing. It always seemed that when things got bad, she was the only one who's strength everyone leaned on. She had expected more from Sebastian. She knew he was devastated. They all were. But for him to behave like a child and for them to expect her to be the strength for him was too much. The line had been crossed. It was up to him and him alone. She would wait but only for so long. Her time being the strength holding it all together was over.

"Pearl." Dylan said. "There you are."

"I apologize about my outburst." She said.

"Don't. You aren't wrong to feel that way. You're right about it. All of it. We all agree. Well, all of us that love you, anyway." He said. He acted anxious and she could tell he wasn't quite himself.

"Dylan, what's on your mind?" She asked.

He stopped and looked away.

"Leave him. Leave all of this." He said.

"What? What are you talking about?" She asked.

"You don't belong here. You never did. These people aren't your family. We are. And we have supported it all. All of it. From day one. Even when we almost lost you. Even when we knew you were in over your head. We still stayed. We still supported you. Enough already! Leave it. Take your amazing children and leave. I love you. I've always loved you. But as your friend, seeing you in the studio, seeing you with me, laughing and being yourself again today… Pearl. I know who you are. And this… " he motioned around the garden and the palace. "This is crazy! You know?" He said.

She didn't know what to say. To think.

"I can't." She said.

"How long do you expect us all to just be here, as your pawns, watching the heartache and pain come to you over and over again by your own hand?" He asked. "When all you have ever had to do was just take mine." He said as he turned and walked away, leaving her standing there alone and feeling the tears begin to fall.
