Kapitel 29: Farewell Part 1
Numerous fish-like monsters are waiting for him at the top.
They are small compared to the monster that is chasing him as their size is only about two feet tall.
The only similarity they had is they have human-like limbs attached to their bodies.
Unlike the fishes from the water, these fish monsters have the ability to walk on lands
Their sharp teeth are showing as they drool blood from their mouth but their teeth are not sharp like the worm he encountered earlier.
As soon Mike realizes their existence the fish monsters immediately lunches towards him.
(!!!!)
Mike turns back and about to start running again but he stopped when he saw the giant monster is already at his front.
He stops as he is surprised but he quickly gathered himself as he started to run towards the monster.
The monster thrusts its gigantic hands towards its running prey but Mike already anticipated it.
"Sena," said Mike as he lowers his whole upper body as his chin is about to reach the floor.
"I already know what you gonna do!" Sena shouted as she used her left hand to intercept the monster's attack.
However, instead of taking it head-on, she swipes her left hand toward the monster's wrist deflecting all of its attacks away from them.
The monster is surprised and confused about why its attack did not hit its target.
Before the monster could attack again Mike already passed the monster through between its legs.
"You're really good at ducking."
"Do you really need to compliment me here in this situation!?"
They do manage to pass the giant monster but the small ones are already at their tail as they about to bite Sena's butt.
"No," said Sena as she gives a hard kick to the one who about to bite.
Only one of her feet can be used freely by her but the other one is already injured before Mike arrives to save her.
But even in her pathetic state, she can at least beat one or two of these fishes.
"Oy! Don't move much I might drop you!"
"Sorry, just endure it for a while."
Mike run and run as he soon to find a stair and go down.
The giant monster is not chasing them anymore only the small fishes are the only problem left.
There might be a possibility that the giant monster is setting an ambush to them but he can't think of a possibility where it could happen as there no space left for the monster hide its gigantic body to them.
*Splash*
Mike reaches another deck but as soon he takes a step a sound of water splashing can be heard.
He looks down and realizes that the water has already reached here.
Still, he did not dare to stop he only barely outrun a few of the fish-like monsters.
He ran straight to the end of the deck with all of his might but the fishes get faster when they stepped into the waters.
The water only reaches Mike's knee but it still goes up without stopping.
(Fuck me, fuck me, fuck me!)
He gritted his teeth tighten his grip on Sena and force his legs to move harder to run through water.
But the distance between the fishes is not increasing.
Sena covering his blindspot by kicking away the monsters that are lunging towards them but it would not take time for them to land a successful attack.
The water reaches Mike's hip in an instant making impossible to run anymore.
(Shit!)
Even with that, he manages to reach the end but the only thing he could see at the end is the vast ocean.
(No way.)
The ship is about to be sunken fully as their time is about to run out.
Mike looks from left to right to find another way but there is none.
(Don't stop!)
He did not stop and look furthermore on his right until he saw the lifeboat where Carlo and others are inboard.
He saw Leo at the door swinging down an ax to the monsters that are attacking them.
Mike thought; (They are supposed to leave away from here. Don't tell me they waited for me? Nevermind about that. The lifeboat is still there so It would be a waste to not take this chance.)
"Sena, We are gonna swim."
"Huh!? It's dangerous did you see the people that are fallen into the sea and never showed up again?!" said Sena as she loses her cool while she is still kicking the monsters back.
"I know but we got no choice!"
They really don't have a choice other than this but the most problematic part is that those who are chasing them are technically fishes.
Mike dives into the ocean and uses his past knowledge about swimming to get there faster than these fishes.
(Dammit I should take the swimming lesson more seriously!)
Sena is still at his back as she is responsible for protecting them.
"Aw!" Without her noticed one of the fishes managed to bite her thigh as a massive amount of blood flow down to the ocean.
She shoves away the fish and proceeds to protect both of them while enduring the pain from her thigh.
They are about to reach the boat as Mike is surprised that nothing happened to them while he is swimming.
Leo who is at the boat saw them but instead of a relieved smile, he gives an expression of disappointment, despair, and anger from his face.
Mike didn't see his face clearly because he was in the midst of being relieved because he was too focused on using his four limbs to swim faster.
The two reached the lifeboat without a problem and proceed to climb on board.
He lifts Sena helping her to climb to the door, he expects Leo to help her but he didn't as the weight doesn't decrease. Even so, Mike successfully helps her without his help.
Mike is next and grabbed the handle near him carrying himself up to the door. Still, no one helps him.
As soon as his eyes see the interior he saw a horrific sight making his body tremble in fear.
Blood everywhere from the floor all around to the ceiling of the boat, human head, hands, arms, and legs can be seen anywhere, and the number of people who are supposed to be 26 is now reduced to less than 10.
Like the sight from the ship's bridge, Mike saw earlier. A sight than he couldn't forget even if he wants to. He covers his mouth trying to hold his vomit back to his stomach.
He looks at Leo and finally saw his expression of anger towards him.
Mike is confused and suddenly Carlo walks straight towards him.
"You! If you did not push your selfishness here the others would not die! Did you know how many lives were died because of what you've done!?" Carlo tucks Mike's shirt lifting him up in the air.
"In the end, you're just a brat," said Carlo as tears fell down to his chin as it drops to the floor.
The atmosphere inside the boat is as despair hovers all over them.
As he was been lifted to the air he looks to the remaining people who cover their faces with their arms or with their knees as they sit.
The people who are unconscious are gone as they are taken by the monsters defenselessly.
He saw Ray at the corner mourning in front of the corpse.
Mike realized what he had done but accepted it easily because he only thinks about Sena not caring for others who got involved in his mess.
He is even relieved that Ray survived even the others he did not know died in gruesome ways.
However, he feels this aching feeling coming from his heart when he knew that people died because of him. He is a human so he could at least give them sympathy for what he had done.
Carlo soon drops him and punches him straight to his face. Mike saw his actions but he didn't dodge it. He accepted it for Carlo to vent his anger for him to calm down.
*BAM* A fist hits Mike's face making him thrown into the ground as blood drips down from his nose.
His eyes widened in surprise from the power Carlo he gives to his punch. He anticipated it but he didn't expect Carlo to be this strong.
"Mike." Sena tried to help Mike to stand up but she also stumbled to the ground.
The injured from her leg got worsen because of the fish who bites her.
Carlo saw her but didn't bother to help her.
Leo even with his anger that about to go wild whenever he sees Mike he is still considerate and gives Sena a cloth band-aid for her to treat her wound.
"T-thank you."
Leo did not reply and goes back to the door and guard the boat even with injuries that cover his whole body.
There are four of them guarding each side of the boat and all of them are heavily wounded but still choose to defend the boat for the sake of there friends.
Mike stands up on his own and helps Sena to treat her wound.
After he helps her he thought that he could talk to Ray who is still mourning the death of others.
"Ray."
Ray looks toward the voice and soon to find Mike from his view.
"O-oh it's you, M-Mike." He tried to hide his cry and anger with his arm but it was too obvious for Mike to be fooled.
Ray is deeply furious about Mike but he is still his best friend and he thinks that he will do the same if Mike is in the same situation. But even with that, he is still furious with it.
Mike can't form a word to give to Ray as he only looks at Ray with his apologetic eyes.
"D-don't be sad. It's not y-your fault anyway." Instead of Mike cheering Ray, Ray is the one who is cheering Mike.
As Mike continues to give apologetic expression to Ray a sound of a screech can be heard through a wall near Ray.
"!?"
The sound briefly, and then...
*BAM*
A hole was created at the wall and suddenly a small fish monster appeared to bite Ray in his right shoulder.
"Gargh!"
"Ray!"
A fish monster pulled Ray into the sea and never seen again.
Or so they thought...
Mike put a heavy kick to Rin to push him at the side for him to not get grab by the monster.
The monster saw its prey flew further away from its range.
It showed a disappointed face as its prey got away.
However, the monster immediately shifts its target to the one who is near him.
*Chomp* Instead of grabbing the prey it bites it for the higher chance to not let its prey go away.
The one who is bitten is no one other than Mike who can't react after using his full force kick.
Unlike Leo, Mike is not really suitable for short-range combat he prefers fighting from the back that is why he can't react after using a full force kick. He is indeed fast but the fish is faster.
He is bitten at his side of his chest as he heard the sound his ribs breaking.
Leo and everyone saw what happened but they could barely react in time as Mike gotten pulled down into the ocean.
"Argh! Tch!"
But Mike is still resisting. His body was pulled into the underwater but his arms managed to hold onto holders of the boat preventing him from getting pulled into the ocean fully.
Sena barely stands up as she leans to the chair uttering Mike's name. "Mike!"
The monster thinks that its prey he caught this time is persistent but the monster did not give up as it calls others for help.
*puru puru puru!* weird sound came from the monster's mouth as it communicates to one of the fish monsters that is busy holding the lifeboat for it to not move.
The monster understands and release its grab from the boat and helps its fellow fish monster.
It grabs with its human-like hands to Mike's right foot pulling him down deep into the ocean.
(Two!? I feel like my body is about to be separated!)
Mike still resists as he forces his body to lift himself even a little just to reach the hole on the lifeboat.
"H-help!" Mike pleaded for help.
Leo is already at the hole and reaches his hand to Mike.
Even Carlo is worried when he saw Mike is about to get pulled as he rushes to help him.
Sena and Ray are the back of Leo as they rush straight to Mike.
Mike stretches his hand reaching Leo's as he trusts his strength will outmatch the two fish monsters.
However when Mike's is about to reach by Leo.
*Thud* a sound of a fist hitting Mike's head making him release his grip from the handle.
Mike falls again into the sea as he's in panic, confused about what happened just now.
At first, he thought it was Carlo but it was not.
The one who punches him is one of the thugs who is crying as he was getting restrained by others.
"Oy what have you done!?"
"Are we just gonna let that get in board!? He killed our brothers! Do you think I would forgive him!?"
Mike tried to swim to the surface again but this time he doesn't have something to hold onto to resist the two monsters.
He is struggling, using his free hands to shove away the two fishes.
But they are not budging.
Not only they are not budging the accumulated pain and exhaustion from his body are starting to take effect.
(Dammit this feeling!)
As soon he realizes his means of escape is done for, the monsters pulled him further down to the ocean.
He realizes that unlike other situations where he could see even a little ray of hope, the only thing he could see from here is nothing but darkness. His hope is like what he sees right now, everything is dark barely seeing anything and the blood of humans is getting mixed through the waters.
The one ship where Mike was is still in the middle of sinking as fire blaze spread further to the whole ship.
(So I was gonna die because of someone's blind rage, huh.)
He sees gigantic bubbles coming from the bottom towards the surface he wonders; (Where do these bubbles coming from?)
The bottom of the ocean only showed darkness as he can't see a single thing that's happening there.
As he is in middle of thought a single bubble floats towards beside him.
Inside of the bubble is clear like glass as there is nothing inside.
And just when the bubble is now beside him someone from behind pushes him towards the bubble.
He struggles to not get pushed but once he touches the bubble it sucks him inside.
As soon he went inside the two monsters release Mike as they take their distance away from the bubble.
Mike is surprised but what he is surprised more is that the giant bubble that is hard to pop can let him go inside easily without much force.
He thought the one who pushes him is another fish monster but to his another surprised, the suspect is here with him inside the bubble.
It's a human with a lab coat that he knew.
"Lucas!?"
He spoke in a surprised tone and to his surprise, he could breathe inside the bubble. He could breathe but he feels like he is breathing on hot air.
*pant pant* He looks at his teacher who breathes haggardly as he is in fours at the ground.
(Why is the mystery teacher is here?) voiced in thought by Mike.
"Oy, are you o--?!" Mike asks Lucas but he got interrupted immediately.
"We got no time!" Lucas looks into his eyes as he grabs his shoulders making his attention all into him.
"Listen here! *pant* The bubbles are weak underwater and it has air inside. AH!? Looks like the fishes are about to charge here. The fishes aren't afraid of the bubbles they are just cautious that's why they take their distance and approaching us slowly." said Lucas as he stands in front of Mike as he looks a the two fishes that are going towards them.
"Lucas..." Mike is still confused as he thinks; (Why are you here anyway!?) He doesn't know if he should be happy that he got help from his teacher who is at the side of the people who kidnapped them. He knew that Lucas is not actually bad but it was just unthinkable to risk his life here.
(I must not think deeply for now. He is here to save and it's good for me. The distance to reach the surface is far than I expected so these fishes might give us a hard time.)
He thinks again of a way to escape from this but the situation is unfavorable not only from numbers, power, and speed but also from the terrain. He thinks and thinks but there are no outcomes. Just like he see there is no light from this darkness.
(There is... no hope.) thought as Mike falls into despair.
As he went into despair someone rings through his brain.
*RING RANG*
It's more like a talk that went directly to his brain. The voice he heard when he got cornered by four guards.
[If you are gonna die why not lessen your sins?]
(!?)
It was a mystery why this voice is talking into his head but he felt agreeing in every word it says.
