You've got a great set up for character them having vague knowledge means there will be some Surprises for the MC. The fact that they are a soldier scientist combo from far in the future Allows for him to customise his stuff and understand the technology of Star Wars. Could also Just say he likes going straight old school Slug throwers for life. But otherwise yeah you have a good set up for story.
