The rest tested out the scrolls, even the movie characters but, only Zheng, Yinkong, Zero, Lan and even Jie which he kept to himself, were able to activate the scrolls.
Out of the movie characters Jonathan was the most disappointed, though Evelyn manage to use the scroll to conjure a small whirlwind; that's all she could manage. Which irked her but, she didn't lose hope that one day she'd be a proper wizard...
Honglu twirled his hair and said. "The spells on the scrolls are focused around the desert. Though if we are to use it to target a few people in the city, they would not be so effective."
"We have also tested several single target spells like corruption. It is powerful but it takes too much energy, and also takes twenty seconds of channeling."
"That's enough time for the enemy to run away or attack. The spell also only has a range of 500 to 1000 meters. To be honest, if we can't cast the spell with proficiency, it is worse than the Gauss sniper rifle."
"So the true value of the book isn't on its offensive spells but, rather supportive spells. Like the one that summons the dead and gives the caster invisibility. Or the one that mixes human ashes with sand to create several guards. These powers are especially important and can change the tide of battle..."
Heng joined the conversation. "Human ashes? Where can we get that?"
Everyone looked at Evelyn. She didn't give up on the prospect of casting spells, and was eavesdropping on their conversation the whole time. Although the players were talking in Chinese, a well learned person like her could understand the language.
When they looked at her after saying human ashes, her face turned pale, and went into defensive mode. "What, what are you trying to do? Your not going to turn me into ashes are you?"
O'Connell and Jonathan's expressions also changed. Zheng immediately waved his hand, and laughed.
"Don't worry, we're not that desperate. As to human ashes, do you still remember what the Americans said in Hamunaptra?"
Evelyn and the other two people said simultaneously. "Dry up the mummy, and turn it into firewood... you want to turn a mummy into ashes?"
Zheng thought it was funny that they all said it simultaneously. "Yes, yes. Evelyn you work in a museum right? It shouldn't an issue to steal one or two mummies. If you can't do it then ask the curator for us."
Evelyn said loudly. "How is it possible? They are historical relics. Do you know how much they are worth? Each one of them is a story..."
The greedy Jonathan quickly covered his sister's mouth and said with a smile. "How much are you willing to pay? If you are paying with gold, I can 'borrow' some mummies for you. How's it? Let's discuss a price."
Zheng and O'Connell shook their heads with a smile. O'Connell coughed and said. "I, ahem, we can help you get the mummies but we have some terms...
A while later after a whole lot of bargaining. It was then established that, Zheng, Zero, Yinkong, Jie and Heng will go to Cairo along with the movie characters.
While Kris will be drawing Team India's attention towards him.
Zheng's group will procure human ashes from mummies, and prevent Team India from harming the 3 movie characters.
The rest will stay in the oasis, and lay low. They will be in charge of organizing the scrolls and translating them. Which is mainly Tengyi's job, Honglu, and Lan will figure out how to best use them.
In the following two days, Everyone practiced using the scrolls. They could barely activate them at first, and was drained just by using one scroll at the beginning, as they practiced the output and magnitude of the spells, they experience less and less fatigue until they could finally control the flow of energy to power the scrolls.
They had reached the oasis by this time, and restocked their food and water. Then, the away team of Zheng and the movie characters moved along the river to the next port. Leaving Lan, Honglu, and Tenyi to look for suitable accommodations to hide in.
As they reached the port some of the stress they felt faded, and they began to talk about there travel plans.
"We will take the boat back to Cairo from here, it takes about... two days. Then we will board the ship leaving Cairo. After that there is nothing more to worry about, I don't think that monster will chase us across water." O'Connell laughed as he explained.
O'Connell went through so much shock these two days. The Book of the Dead, Mummies, and Curses were merely antiques and myths to them, and the fact that rubbed up poetry could allow you to cast spells were a thing.
Perhaps it was valuable as an ancient literature but, they never thought it would had such power to summon sandstorms or quicksands or wither all the plants in an area. After Zheng, and the rest got a hold of the scroll, they were like mages, or wizards from legends.
With the liberal use of their gold they manage to get VIP accommodations on a pleasure cruise back to Cairo.
Following the stream, they would reach Cairo by tomorrow evening. Fate and unknown enemies awaited them there…
When Kris was getting some fresh air, and was roaming around the ship. He over heard the conversation between Zheng, and Jie.
Zheng finished the bottle he had in one go then threw it off the cruise. "Everyone can die at any moment. After being on the brink of death for so long, aside from the bonds with people I love making me live on, life and death don't matter that much anymore."
"Like the me before couldn't disregard someone's life so lightly, or just take it away so easily… What really makes me tired is having to fight with one hand and guard against my comrades with the other hand."
"If I can't even leave my back to my comrades without worrying, that's the real reason I am tired."
"If… if…" Jie finished his bottle also, then muttered the words. "Bro. Have you ever wondered why Team India is stronger than us?"
"The team names are assigned based on their regions in ancient times. Team India includes India, West Indies, and all the lands west extending to the Dead Sea and Saudi Arabia."
"Whereas Team China includes all the land from China. We have the most land and population among all the teams in God's World. Then… why are we weaker than Team India? Aren't you curious?"
Zheng took out another bottle of alcohol then said calmly, "That's why I have been waiting for you…"
"If… give me some time. If you can survive against Team India….this time, I will tell you everything."
This is the part of the conversation that Kris didn't need to hear so he left, looked for Evelyn as he still needs some help with translating some of the text in the scrolls.
