Kapitel 6: Chapter 6

I'm excited yet nervous. The past week has been stressful with me preparing for work. I had to go shopping for formal wears.

Yes you guessed it right, I got the job!!!

I received a call from Crosby Inc. On Wednesday, apparently, the boss has been away hence the delay. I was so excited that I called Lyn who unfortunately already made plans with Gavin.

I like him for Lyn but honestly, I miss my friend. They're always together, it's hard to see her these days and when we do it is Gavin this, Gavin that.

My girl is lovesick although she is denying it for now

As much as I'm jealous of him, I'm glad my ship ain't sinking anytime soon.

Well you can guess, I had a lonely and tiring week. Lyn did go shopping with me though which I'm grateful for.

I called my mom too to let her know I got a job with the Crosby Inc.

"hi mom" I greeted

"Hello sweetie, how are you doing" she responded back. God I miss this woman

"I'm fine mom, and you"

"Oh dear, I'm fine although I miss my baby" her voice dropped.

"I miss you too mom" and I did. I miss her hugs, her face, her expression when she laughed or even scolded me. I miss her warmth, I miss home. I miss home so much but I needed to leave...I had to.

"Then come back home sweetie" if only I could do that. Finally my dream of being an independent working-class lady will soon come to pass, I can't return home

"I can't, I got a job mom" I decided to tell her my real purpose for calling

" you did? That's good news" it definitely is

"Yes, it is. So now you know I can't come home right" I asked

"Yes I do now. Where and what position were you giving" she asked

"Crosby Inc. And I'll be the CEO PA" a minute passed before a response was heard

"Crosby Inc. The Crosby's" she inquired

"Yes mom, Crosby Inc " I affirmed

"Wow but PA? That's good I guess. But won't it be too tiring, you are alone darling and... " I cut her off

"I'll be fine mom and moreover, Lyn is here so I'm definitely not alone. Where is dad? " I asked since I haven't heard his voice in the background

"You know your dad, he is working late once again" she sighed. Mom has been complaining about dad's new bad habit. For the past two months, he has been working late. I tried talking him out of it but he wouldn't bulge. Why can't he just close like every normal worker does.

"You have to stop him mom, he shouldn't ruin his health" mom did say he hasn't been sleeping soundly these days. And he is always tired.

"I know but your dad is just as stubborn as you, by the way Toby called " no I'm not stubborn. I argued mentally. Mom's last words caught my attention.

"He did, how is he doing" I know he is fine, but I had to ask.

"He is doing good. Till when do I have to hide your location from him, the young man is hurting. He cares so much for you sweetie, why should you avoid him" I know he does and I do too. But I needed the distance.

"I care too mom, but I needed to and you know that. I'll see him when I sort myself out I promise" I will have to see him one day. I can already see the drama that will unfold

"I hope so. Do you need anything for your new job, I could help" she decided to change the topic to which I was grateful for. I was beginning to feel guilty.

" no mom I got everything covered. I love you and do say hi to dad" well this conversation has to end right now before she gets any ideas

"OK OK OK I won't interfere. I love you too sweetie. Take care of yourself and do say hello to Evelyn for me" she chuckled. We ended the call after the I love you was exchanged.

Well, it's now Monday and I'm currently staring at my reflection in the mirror. I had on a navy blue knee-length skirt paired with a white buttoned-up shirt and a white heel. A nude makeup. My hair was packed in a neat bun. Well I personally think I look formal enough for work. I picked up my clutch which had my cards, phone, and some cash.

I checked my wristwatch and realized the taxi will be here soon. I hurried out of my apartment and waited outside. Since it's my first day I decided to be extravagant and go in a car instead of a bus. I can't go in looking sweaty and out of breathe.

Throughout the ride, I was filled with excitement. Finally, I'll be having something to gist about with Lyn, I can finally complain about a demanding boss and my coworkers.

"We are here miss" the driver said

I paid him and wished him a good day. Glancing at my watch, I realized I'm twenty minutes early. Well, a good first impression won't be bad. I smiled at the thought.

"Good morning ma'am" the security guy greeted.

"Good morning" I responded

I went towards the receptionist desk

"Good morning" I greeted her. And once again I admired her beauty.

"Good morning" she said smiling "I'm glad you got the job. Miss Ryan right?"

I was surprised and my expression gave me out as she laughed

"Well I have your Identity card here with me so yes I know your name" she said while handing over my card.

The joy in me can't be explained. Yes I knew I got the job, but holding this card makes it real. I finally have an office card, a card I rightfully got. My eyes brimmed with unshed tears of joy.

"Don't cry, you don't want to ruin your makeup now, do you. And moreover, the boss won't like a tear-streaked face lady as a PA. I'm Avery, Avery Kosmos" she introduced

"Paisley Ryan. And please call me Paisley " I said to which she agreed if I call her Avery. Well I guess I just made my first office friend.

I left her and headed for the top floor, floor36. She said my office is the only office up there aside from the CEO's own. The elevator was fully occupied as everyone seemed to be in a haste. I glance at my watch and realized there is still ten more minutes, so why the haste I thought?

The people inside the elevator kept on decreasing on each floor.

"Hello, you are from which department " a voice asked when we got to floor 33.

"None" I answered. I noticed we were only three left in the elevator. The other man raised a brow at my response.

"None? " the first guy asked once more. I nodded affirmatively.

"Which floor are you headed to" the second man asked. What's this, am I in an interview? I thought. Since it's my first day I needed a good reputation and moreover they seemed like they were important if they are heading this far.

"The top floor. I'm the CEO new PA Miss Ryan" I introduced myself. Well that should end this elevator interview

"Hello I'm Greg and this is Mr. Davidson from the accounting department". The first guy introduced. Thankfully the elevator stopped and they stepped out. I heaved a sigh of relief and continued on my journey.

Finding my office was easy but I decided to say hello to my employer first. I walked towards his door and took a deep breath. I curled my hands into a fist and raised it to knock.

"Come in" a deep voice answered.
