Kapitel 281: Skill books (3)

"Sigh, enter!"

"Salutations once again, Sir Guy. I must profusely apologize for my enormous blunder. I was too take with my petition being granted that I failed to perform my duties to the expected standard."

I can't with this guy. Why does he use so many words?!

"Just give me a pen and get out."

"Of course, here you are."

Archibald pulls two fountain pens from his chest pocket and placed them in my open palm before hurrying out and silently closing the door.

Do I have to use fountain pens?

<It's better if you get accustomed to them early. Using monster blood as ink without a fountain pen is really difficult. The skill will be doing all the writing for you so it shouldn't be a problem.>

Well then, let's get to it. I place both fountain pens on the tray and sit down. Now, dear skill book creation skill, what can I make with this?

Huh. Only two options. Kind of disappointing…

<YOU CAN MAKE SHIT WITH NORMAL MATERIALS!>

Yes?

<What can you make?>

I feel like I can make a skill book for both my throwing skill and the level 1 dismantling skill.

<Hmm, so at least you can only do it for basic skills. Wait, you just said level 1 dismantling skill! All skills acquired from skill books are level 1, the fact that you only said it for dismantling… can you make a level 2 skill book for the dismantling skill?>

No. I feel like I could make one for level 4 if I had better materials. None of the other levels seem to work. This doesn't make much sense…

<Level 4? Ah, perhaps this must all be due to the dismantling skill's special nature. Unlike other skills that level up through proficiency, the dismantling skill has a knowledge requirement for the transition from level 3 to 4 and 6 to 7, right?>

So I can eliminate the need for all that tedious studying?

<Well, we need to test that first, but it does seem to be the most reasonable conclusion. First however, we need you to start with the basics. Please make one throwing and one dismantling skill book.>

Got, two skill books coming right up.

I decide to start with the throwing skill book and feel my creation skill take effect. All my miscellaneous thought begin to fade away and I grab a cover page.

I write throwing onto the page in big, bold letters and set the cover page aside. I grab the first piece of paper and begin to fill the blank page with words I can't really comprehend. One thing I do notice, I am writing very quickly. About three times faster than my usual writing speed.

The first page is soon filled and I move on to the second and the third after that. I barely ever pause even when I start on a new page and once I reach the fifth page, I miraculously find myself sketching a diagram of an arm's throwing motion.

More pages filled with words and sketches follow until, after one last sketch of a full body throwing motion, I finish writing. I organize the pages and add page numbers. Then, I use the provided string to bind them together and finish the skill book.

The effect of the skill ebbs away and I look at the booklet in my hands. It only has twenty pages, kind of thin…

So, Navi, how many abnormal things did I do?

<The length of the book is adequate and as expected. The throwing skill is nothing complex so twenty pages easily cover that. Your writing speed however, that's abnormal. You completed those twenty pages in little over an hour. It should have taken you at least four hours to do so. I wonder what the effect of you leveling up that skill is.>

Why?

<Technically, leveling up that skill makes you write faster and allows you to use more common materials. Both of which you already have. The only explanation we have, is that your instructing skill is the reason for those changes. Therefore I wonder what the symbiotic relationship between the two skills will bring forth at higher levels.>

Then I guess I'd better hurry up and get to it. Time for the dismantling skill book!

I once again activate my skill and another cover page is made. I start to fill page after page with word after word and quite a few sketches when things go wrong.

I pass forty pages and realize what I am writing. This is a complete guide to dismantling all monsters that I know under the category of small monsters. This ranges from goblins to dungeon lizards to horned rabbits and so many more. Every last one of them gets an entry in the book, complete with a full explanation on how to dismantle them.

The book is getting really long and I can't stop! Time is passing by as I agonize over my hand that is writing like mad.

The first fountain pen runs out of ink after about sixty pages full of text. My body immediately grabs the second fountain pen that I was given and continues to write as if nothing has happened.

Navi, stop this!

<I would have to kill you to do that so no. Just bear with it for now.>

Fine…

I fill another 80 pages until the second fountain pen runs out of ink too. How many hours have passed?

My hands put aside the empty pen and then, for a moment, I just freeze. The sudden halt of my movements is followed by a violent throbbing from my heart. I feel a piercing pain radiating out from my chest and spew out a mouthful of blood.

F***! What is happening to me? Am I dying?

<You are not dying. Your body is experiencing backlash from your skill being suddenly canceled. The pain should subside soon and I'll heal you right away.>

Navi appears next to me and sends a cooling current of magic into me. Immediately, any remaining discomfort vanishes.

"Thanks, that was unpleasant."

"Yeah, sorry about that but I wasn't expecting the book to be this long. Also, you might have to redo some of that…"

"Motherfu-"
