Kapitel 185: Winter returns (4)
The warrior in red makes his declaration accompanied by a war cry. The metal head of his hammer turns completely red and changes from a hammerhead into a halberd. The function of being able to change his weapon's metal part is fancy and all but I don't think it will help.
Navi mentioned that the only reason Darwin's defenses were penetrated before was that the weapon was made using a dragon fang. So some reshaped metal probably won't show the desired effects.
"Come to think of it, how are Darwin's clothes fine? The only damaged part is where the dragon fang made a puncture."
"Omni immunity's main negation effect happens above the outermost layer of a creature's skin. His clothes are still within that area so they too are protected. Plus these clothes are heavily enchanted. They are a part of Darwin's experiments.
"And for your information, they didn't get penetrated by the dragon fang. One of the enchantments allows them to pull away from an attack to avoid sustaining damage. Once they realize that the danger has passed they'll return to their original position."
Does Darwin have any hobbies besides doing ridiculous things? Probably not...
At least he finally seems intent to fight back. He takes a step back and locks his gaze onto the warrior in red armor swinging the newly made halberd. I'm not sure if this is a coincidence but the mage in a red robe is lined up perfectly behind the warrior now.
Then, time seems to slow down exponentially. My vision blurs and I suddenly see double. But not an ordinary double, the second world I see is filled with threads, soul threads.
As I realize what they are my eyes begin to hurt and Navi seems to be concerned. But I can't tear away my gaze from the threads.
I hear a pop and my normal vision suddenly goes dark and Navi gasps. I don't have the interest to think about what happened because the moment my ordinary vision disappears things begin to appear in my soul vision. Glowing blobs appear where people had been standing before. They shine in rainbow colors but most of them have different hues. Are these souls? They must be!
Darwin's soul is a milky white laced with dark red streaks that look like blood drops. The other souls all have brownish hues with bright red and black veins running through them.
I want to look for more details but strong pressure from Darwin's soul draws my attention. A gray disk has appeared before Darwin's soul. Instantly the souls of the red armored warrior and red-robed mage begin to quiver. They look like gelatin during an earthquake.
A bit of Darwin's soul extends to touch the gray disk's back. From the front of the disk, a gray beam is launched at the two souls and drowns them in gray.
As the gray beam pulls back it turns into a small glowing ball that Darwin's soul quickly engulfs.
Suddenly I feel dizzy and my soul vision vanishes. I sway a bit and Navi immediately places a hand on my back to stabilize me.
"Getting enlightenment from Darwin's attacks while blowing up your eyes. How troublesome! Drink this."
Navi presses a glass vial into my hand. I immediately remove the stopper and chug it down as the pain of whatever happened to my eyes begins to register.
The liquid feels like honey and the moment it enters my stomach I feel a powerful vitality expand to fill my entire body. My eyes begin to itch but Navi stops me from scratching. Moments later my sight returns.
Being able to restore my damaged eyes within seconds...
"What did I just drink?"
"It's a potion we commonly use here. It's produced by a member from one of the branch stores. It has very high restoration properties and can heal severed limbs within seconds."
"That's nice."
I move my newly recovered eyes back to where the action is happening. Only to find that said action isn't happening.
Both the red armored warrior and the red-robed mage are lying on the ground with soulless eyes. Whatever Darwin did they seem to still be alive but without a soul to make their body move consciously.
The other three adventurers are looking back and forth between Darwin and their fallen comrades. Their eyes are as big as saucers and seem about to pop out of their eye sockets.
Darwin seems quite accustomed to such a response but doesn't immediately attack.
Out of nowhere, a loud crash sounds like a massive amount of glass being broken.
The figures of Darwin and the three adventurers have suddenly moved more towards the entrance. Right when they appear, I see Darwin in a punching stance.
"Don't be confused. Lord winter tried to once again freeze time and retreat with his companions. However, Darwin simply punched through it again."
Darwin seems quite monstrous now. To be able to stop an ability that is tailor-made to flee is a very terrifying power.
Lord winter seems shocked that his spell was canceled despite this being the second time. He opens his mouth to say something but Darwin has already appeared before him and punched him in the gut. Lord winter bends forward in pain and Darwin raises his leg in a motion that no one would expect from someone with his build and axe-kicks lord winter's neck.
We all hear the audible crack and see a lifeless body drop to the ground. Lord winter is no more and his companions are about to be put into a similar state.
The warrior in blue armor screams and smashes his dragon fang war hammer into the ground. The floor is crushed and an area of ice begins to cover expand but much slower than the one produced by lord winter.
Darwin waves his hand and a wave of heat gushes out from around him and melts the icy area the warrior had produced.
"Guess this is how it ends for me. Bert, you'd better make it out of here alive or I'll beat you up in the afterlife!"
