Kapitel 139: Blood in the water (1)

Navi, can I get some miniature javelins from my room delivered to me now?

<I'll have to go check, please hold.>

<...>

<We can import items into a boos room by using a treasure chest but the locations of the chests in this boss room are a bit unfortunate. Both chests are at the top of the waterfall.>

So I'll have to climb up the walls next to the waterfall to get there? Is it close to the skeleton spawner?

<Above the waterfall is a river at there's a treasure chest on either side of the riverbanks.>

Fine, please get all the miniature javelins I have in my room into the chest I'm heading to.

<All of them?>

There's a whole bunch of adventurers coming so I can't have too many javelins on hand.

I run along the side of the lake until I reach the wall to the left of the waterfall. Pressing my hand against the wall I reach out with my magic forcing a new pattern in my body into existence as I will the wall to change.

Magic courses through my body and into the rock wall through my palm. The pattern in my body stabilizes and the wall begins to undergo changes.

Handholds emerge just in the right positions for me to climb up. I stop casting the spell I have just created and climb up the wall with much more ease than anticipated. I'll have to include this in the report on testing the dungeon's defenses.

I arrive at the top of the wall and immediately see the treasure chest on this side of the rocky riverbank. Further up the river, I can see a large floating skull with a greyish flame burning inside. That must be the origin of those skeletons that are flushed down the waterfall.

I hurry over to the treasure chest since it won't be long until the first adventurers arrive. I grab the lid of the chest and flip it open revealing rows upon rows of miniature javelins.

I want to take a moment to count them but suddenly the giant skull begins to rotate and the greyish flame that was only the size of a normal campfire grows rapidly.

Once the entire skull is set ablaze by the grey flame the skull opens its jaws and spits out a skeleton. That skeleton drops into the river and turns into a pile of bones that is dragged along by the river current.

Skeletons spawning from that blazing skull can mean only one thing. Adventurers have arrived in the boss room and are currently fighting the monsters. I grab a dozen javelins from within the chest and run to the edge of the side of the waterfall.

Indeed, two teams of adventurers have already arrived. One consists of five shield-bearers and two mages while the other is a team comprised solely of magic swordsmen.

Part of me wonders how the shield-bearers arrived as one of the first teams but I quickly focus on what's important.

The two mages are fervently guarded by the five shield-bearers so harming them will be difficult. The magic swordsmen on the other hand have no defensive measures on them. They can defend against the skeletons simply by cutting them down before they can strike.

Ready to take advantage of their defenseless state I lay the javelins down beside me. I pick up one miniature javelin and take aim. After a deep breath, I throw the javelin with all my might and watch it fly while taking the next one.

The magic swordsmen don't see it coming when suddenly one of them is hit by a javelin coming from up above. The javelin pierces the leather shoulder guard of the one in the front and makes him reel back in shock. The entire team looks up and quickly spots me standing up above next to the waterfall.

"It's really a goblin using javelins! It has to be a unique monster!"

"Look at it, it's wearing leather armor and has two daggers at its sides."

"I've never seen such a well-equipped goblin!"

"Maybe it's from a higher floor. Unique monsters are known to wander through different floors."

"Stop arguing over its uniqueness! Look, it's throwing another javelin."

They are talking loudly so I can hear every word they say. Their conversation breaks down as I throw another javelin at them. They easily dodge it this time since they are all looking at me but the skeletons are beginning to push them back.

"Damn it! We can't focus on dodging those javelins and one-shot the skeletons at the same time."

"Don't worry, the other teams should arrive any minute now. Some of them want to kill the unique monster so they will take the heat for us. All we need to do is take this opportunity to break through this boss room and get further into the dungeon."

That certainly isn't good news. Once the other three teams arrive things might go badly for me. And of course, the second I think that those three teams arrive. Worst of all two of those three teams are accompanied by an archer.

The two archers are decidedly not permanent members of those teams since their levels are lower and they have no synergy with the rest of the team. But they will make my life harder.

The third team is also worrisome for me. They are adventurers of the alpha plane. They also have climbing equipment as if they knew that I would be up here.

<They likely wanted to nab the treasure chests up here. You being here is just an unfortunate coincidence for you.>

The only good news in this situation is that the blazing skull above the river behind me begins to spit out skeletons at a much faster rate. The number of adventurers currently in the boss room must have sent it into overdrive.

Another thing I notice is that the teams are not all here with the same motive. The magic swordsmen have already blabbered out their objective of getting through this floor. The group made up of mostly shield-bearers seems to have similar goals. From my vantage point, I can easily see them gravitate towards the icy path the last team had begun to create.
