Kapitel 2: 2. Leader of the Dagelans gang
On the rooftop of the school building, one of Shiro's favorite places to cool off during recess or empty hours.
Shiro stood behind the guardrail and looked at the crowd of students passing by below him. "How can they go through the day so calmly?" Shiro said softly.
As Shiro was pensive looking at the scenery below, a burly man came over to him. "I know you're here. Thinking about the fate of the nation?" said the man, standing next to Shiro and offering him a cigarette.

"Mike? What are you doing here?" asked Shiro, curious. He then took the cigarette Mike offered and lit it.
"I had some business nearby, then thought about stopping by to chat with you." said Mike, taking in the scenery around him.
"Oh.. By the way, how much do these cigarettes cost? It taste more flavorful than what you usually gave me." Shiro said, enjoying the cigarette he smoked.
"50,000 Doku." Mike replied.
* Cough *
* Cough *
Mike's short answer made Shiro choke and cough.
"Per pack?? With 50,000 I can survive for a whole Week!!" exclaimed Shiro, hard to believe. "The price is very expensive for rolling dry leaves like this. No wonder the landlords in Colo village live in luxury." he added.
"That's right. And poor people like us have to scavenge their trash to survive." Mike said, squeezing the pack of cigarettes his holding.
"Ehm, Mmaa.. When you get used to it, you will also be able to enjoy it." Shiro said, trying to calm Mike who seemed a little emotional.
"Are you kidding?! Almost every day, there are residents who die of hunger! You yourself must have realized that the situation in this city is getting more and more chaotic right?! Mike snapped, getting carried away with emotion.
"Yeah.. This morning I also saw demonstrators who looked even more heated. I think there will be civil war in this city." Shiro replied, looking pensively at the crowd of students below.
"Therefore, Shiro... Join us. The others will be very happy if you want to join." said Mike, trying to persuade Shiro to join the Dagelans.
Dagelans itself is a gang group consisting of the kretek city thugs. Even though most of them often make residents restless, Dagelans has full support of citizens who oppose the world government.
For the poor, Dagelans are a group of heroes. They robbed stingy landlords and distributed the spoils to the poor. This makes Mike, as the leader of the Dagelans, a fugitive from the town government. Mike's wanted posters have also been spread throughout the city of Kretek and neighboring cities with a reward of 5 million Doku for whoever that able to captured Mike, alive or dead. A very tempting reward for the townspeople of Kretek for betraying Mike, considering how hard their life is right now.
"Didn't I tell you that I'm not at all interested. My mother and I are happy enough living our lives now. Besides, why do village thugs like you go to school just to bribe me a pack of cigarettes every week?! Have you forgotten that you are a fugitive??" Not wanting to bother, Shiro walked away from Mike. "Go into hiding and forget your plans to suicide." he added as he continued walking.
Mike sighed and tried to think clearly. He still didn't give up and once again tried to persuade Shiro by igniting his emotions. "Do you think you can continue to live like this in this dying world? After all, why are you wasting your time registering for compulsory education?! If you and your mother need something to eat, why don't you just tell me?!"
Hearing Mike's spicy words made Shiro stop immediately. "Do you think my mother and I look like beggars to you?!"
"Am I wrong? Instead of fighting for our freedom, you would rather be a slave to the world government when you graduate later!" Mike said firmly.
"What do you know about my life?!" Shiro snapped, approaching Mike angrily.
"At least, I know Abbas Brightlight is not a coward like you." Mike replied, still looking pretty calm.
"Shut up!!" Shiro, who was unable to contain his emotions, grabbed Mike by the collar and hit him right in the face. "Don't ever mention that name in front of me!!" Shiro shouted, continuing to brutally beat Mike.
Mike, who realized that his words could provoke Shiro's emotions, could only endure the rain of fists he received without the slightest attempt to dodge.
After being satisfied to beat Mike, Shiro released Mike lying on the floor and tried to control his emotions.
"Do you think... Do you think your mother would be proud of you if you worked for the organization that massacred your family?!" said Mike, standing up slowly. Mike then held Shiro's on the shoulders and said, "If you really want to make your mother happy.. Then fight!!!" Mike slammed his head against Shiro's head very hard, causing them both to fall and sprawl on the floor.
When Shiro and Mike were lying on the floor and moaning in pain, suddenly a very loud explosion sounded in the south.
* Dduuuuuaaaaaarrrrr *
The thundering sound of an explosion shocked everyone. The puff of smoke billowed high in the sky, leaving everyone staring at the south in silence.
A few moments later, panicked screams began to sound out. Meanwhile, Shiro and Mike who were still lying on the floor only glanced slightly to the south.
"I've heard that the rebels in black robes have arrived at the Atlas city." said Mike, trying to stand up. "If they succeed in taking over the city, they will likely be here this week." he added.
Mike wiped the blood on his lips and spat to the left. "Dammit! My teeth fell out again! I've always wondered, are you really a human?"
"At 3 o'clock in the afternoon, together with the residents, Dagelans will take over the Salam village hall. If you are the Shiro Al Brightlight we used to know, then come. Invite your friends to join us in reclaiming our freedom." Mike said, who then stepped away leaving Shiro who is still lying on the floor.
"You such an idiot.. You should know that my friends are only Akmal and you." Shiro said softly, looking up at the sky and ignoring the chaos that is happening below.
A few moments later, in the midst of the chaos that is going on, there is a sound of screams calling out Shiro's name.
"Shiro, show yourself!!!"
Shiro stood up and slowly walked to the edge of the fence to see who was calling him.
"Son of Vegetables, where are you?! My problem with you is not over yet!" shouted the bald thug who had been beaten by Shiro earlier.
"Maybe he's gone to evacuate, boss. We'd better hurry too." said one of the people who called Shiro.
"Aarhh.. Why do those idiots appear at a time like this. How annoying!" complained Shiro, too lazy to serve their whim in a such situation like this.
Not wanting to bother with it, Shiro plans to trick them and go home through the back door. But as soon as he walked down the stairs on the second floor, he see Akmal who is running in panic.
"Shiro!! I've been looking for you everywhere!!" exclaimed Akmal, gasping from exhaustion.
"Hey, you don't have to be that panic. The explosion was far away from here." Shiro said, trying to calm Akmal who was looking very panicked.
"It's not that! Look out to the east!!" shouted Akmal who then ran towards the window. "The smoke is coming from the village!!" exclaimed Akmal, pointing towards the east.
Seeing the plume of smoke overflowing in the eastern sky made Shiro dumbfounded. His face seemed to show an expression of disbelief in what he saw with his own eyes.
Without saying a word, Shiro then rushed out through the back door which then followed by Akmal who ran after him. Dara who happened to be in the next room had heard their conversation. Without the slightest hesitation, she then started running out after the two of them.
