City of Symbiosis
The city of mixed races and different beliefs.
It took us day and night to reach the city. If I were alone, I would have reached the city in half a day, but girls' levels were lower at the moment, so I had to wait for them.
Before I left, I bought some Goblin Beer from the chief and wanted to sell in the city. Because I have storage, trading goods between villages and cities is profitable for me. I approached the door and waited in the line with my girls.
"Identification!" The tough-looking guard looked at me and my girls and asked for identification. In this world, every person had an identification, either a paper or a token.
My sisters and I had Feline God's tokens of course, but we didn't want our real identities to be known. Thus I put my hand in my pocket and flashed a Level 8 beast core. Guard looked around and saw no one looking and his hand flashed like a phantom and hid the beast core in his pocket.
"Can we go now?" I asked.
"You can, but it is not enough for all of you," Guard said greedily. I already learned the customs of the city, and I knew a Level 8 core was enough for us to enter without any problem. But the guard must have thought I am a scion, and he can bully me at whim.
Even though the guard himself is nothing but a Level 5 Fighter, there are people above Level 10 watching the city entrance. So, I can't attack him. But, it doesn't mean I can scare him away.
"I just flashed a Level 8 Beast Core without batting an eye. How do you think I acquired it?" I asked with a smile haven't reached my eyes.
There were many likelihoods for me to acquire a Level 8 beast core. I may have killed it all by myself or with a crowded group. Maybe I have a backing of a strong man who helped me with the core. These are some of the possibilities. But in each case, a mere guard shouldn't be willing to risk his chances. So, I thought.
"You three can go, but the wolf girl is wanted in the city," Guard said without a change on his face.
"With what offense?" I asked with an eerie premonition. I looked back at Ylva with a hood covering most of his body, but I could see her pupils dilated.
"Plus Religion Church started an investigation against the Canid House's Princess Ylva in offense of eating the children. The City court accepted the investigation and it will be carried by the said church. I cannot let her through and have to confiscate her and bring her to the church." The guard said silently so only we could hear him.
"What else do you know?" I flashed another core to him, and his eyes become like saucers.
"Yes, sir. I heard the Canid Temple and the Plus Church are working together to frame the poor girl. Canid Temple cannot take the inheritance and estates the late Leader left for his daughter."
'World Laws Article #25: Inheritance can only be claimed by the person on the will. No death will ever change the inheritor. Only the inheritor can deny the inheritance, and in the case, it will be given to the other family members!'
"Princess left the city before the inheritance announced, and elders of the Temple thought the inheritance would be hand down to the temple instead of a person. Even though the late Leader loved her daughter, he always worked for the temple." Guard explained in one breath. I looked at Ylva and saw her teary eyes. She lost her father, and face the hatred of her race and the people of the city. But even now she couldn't live freely.
"Can you sneak us into a safe location?" I asked to guard and he nodded. He flashed out a mask and handed it to Ylva. Her body was covered with a cloak, but her face was still recognizable. After that, the guard brought us to a side door a little bit further away from the main gate and opened the door with a key.
"This is the door we are using to sneak stolen goods in and dead bodies out." He said without holding back.
"Why are you telling me this?" I asked suspiciously.
"If sir needs it, I can prepare a key for you." The guard said with gold coins shining in his eyes.
"How much?" I asked. I could open a mere door with my elements but I wasn't sure if the gate had a secret mechanism or not.
"10 Level 8 core should suffice." Guard tested the waters.
"Don't push your luck!" I said coldly.
"Sorry, sir. But the keys are special and can only be forged by an expert blacksmith. They are more valuable than Mana Weapons. Their cost is 9 Level 8 Cores, and I only asked for a Level 8 core myself."
"I don't have that much Level 8 cores on me. How about Mana Weapon?" I said and brought out Mana Weapon I looted from Troll King.
"Yes, sir. That should be enough," The guard said happily and brought us to a house not far from the gate. "This is my house. No police or guard can enter without a warrant from High Council. There are secret tunnels to many places in the city and one outside of the city, albeit not finished."
"You are giving this to me?" I asked, surprised. Level 9 core was valuable, but the house was more so.
"I am lending the house to you, sir. For our happy collaboration." Guard flashed a smile and reached out his hand. I shake it back.
"I promise, as long as you don't betray me, I will make sure you earn a hundredfold of your effort."
