Will headed off towards the [Beginner Dungeon] almost immediately after his quest selection was accepted by the receptionist. According to the slip of paper he had read, the [Beginner Dungeon] was home to mostly slimes and a few small bands of goblins. As the [Beginner Dungeon] was regularly wiped clean about once a week, it was very difficult for a high ranking goblin such as a goblin leader or a goblin king to appear.
This meant that Will would be able to neatly clear the dungeon without exerting himself at all.
Although the quest was slightly difficult as collecting magic stones from the lowest form of goblins and slimes were mostly based on luck.
The stronger a monster was, the more likely it was to retain a magic stone after its demise. Out of fifty goblins only three would carry magic stones as goblins had a very small amount of mana inside their bodies. As for slimes, in a group of about a hundred, only five would contain a magic stone.
Will entered the dungeon after flashing his card and had taken only a few steps in when a small blob started furiously attacking his boot.
Will kicked the blob away and observed how the blob jiggled around furiously as a small rock floated inside its gelatinous body.
Will stabbed the slime with his sword and watched it squirm for a moment before the slime's body lost its form and spilled onto the dungeon floor. When Will went over to pick up the magic stone that had been floating within the slime, the magic stone shattered into powder.
The reason why mana stones were usually only collected from high tier monsters was due to the fact that lower tier monsters had weak magic stones.
From the moment a monster is born, a small crystallized rock appears within its body. It at first starts from the size of an ink blot on a piece of paper to eventually a finger nail sized rock as the monster finally reaches F rank. However, the F rank mana stones are still fragile and weak and even the slightest disturbance would cause the delicate balance within the stone to break. A stronger monster would have a bigger mana stone, which would inevitably mean a stronger mana stone that could hold more mana.
Another slime appeared and hopped onto Will's other boot, who simply tapped the slime off before stepping on it with enough force to pop its body.
Will saw that the mana stone of the slime had once again shattered but paid it no real attention. He wasn't here to speed run his tasks but to leisurely warm his body up while observing what exploring a dungeon was really like.
After all, if he made even the slightest mistake, with the right situation a weak slime was perfectly capable of ending his life.
Will paused as something fell from the dungeon ceiling and landed on his head. At first it felt as though he had been hit with a soft pillow before a slight pop sound popped right next to his ears. With the weirdest feeling of being consumed alive, Will stood there in the middle of the dungeon with a slime on top of his head- or was it more accurate to say that his head was inside a slime?
Unable to breathe or clearly see through the thick gelatinous substance of the slime, Will calmly pondered on what to do.
When he tried to push the slime off his head with his hands, they would easily go through the slime like knifes in water and achieve nothing in helping him get the slime off his head. Will tried shaking his head really fast as the inertia produced should've sent the slime flying off but instead the slime just merrily followed his head like jello.
Rina swirled back into existence and gave Will a funny look. "Why is Will wearing a slime as a hat? Is this some sort of human thing that you guys do? I don't understand?"
Will, unable to speak to Rina with words, shrugged before pointing at the slime on his head and mouthing the words 'get it off'.
"Geeeet eeet off? Get it off?" Rina asked with a confused look. "You want me to get it off?"
Will nodded.
"Ok~"
Rina pointed her hands towards Will before sending a small stream of water towards Will's face and the slime. The pressure of the water stream was too weak however and only managed to soak Will's clothes.
Will, who was starting to feel a little suffocated, decided it would be better if he slime's core and kill it instead of trying to remove it from his head. He thrusted his hand into the bundle of firm yet bouncy substance of the slime and rummaged around doing his best to feel for the core.
Right when Will was starting to feel lightheaded and dizzy from the lack of oxygen, Will felt a small stone within the slime fluid and grabbed it before tearing it out of the slime. Immediately, the slime lost its structure and all of the slime that was contained within its body slowly dropped down frown Will's head and down to his body.
With a calm look, Will opened his palms and saw that a small mana stone rested sparkling in his hands. Although the mana stone showed visible signs of deteriorating, it was clear to Will that it would not completely turn to dust.
"Are you ok Will? Was that some sort of weird fashion or was the slime attacking you?" Asked Rina with a hesitant look.
Will gave Rina a small smile. "I was about to suffocate to death from a slime."
"I-Is that so... I couldn't tell if the situation was serious or not. You just seemed so calm that I thought that you placed the slime on your head on purpose."
Will shrugged. "I don't really find I practical to freak out in situations like these. Can you give me a shower Rina? I want to clean the slime filth off my clothes and hair. I feel like the heroine in the librarian's secret stash of books hidden away from the maid's sights."
"The librarian's what?"
"You are too young to know Rina.... too young."
