Kapitel 44: Ch 44. Ares vs Koga
Both were standing opposite of the other, ready to start the battle. Grabbing his pokeball, Ares called out his pokemon at the same time as Koga.
On Koga's side of the battlefield, a Muk was released, spreading out its fouls stench far and wide as it spread its body comfortably.
The Pokemon Ares had chosen appeared as well, being Umbreon.
Umbreon stood his ground as he looked at the Muk in front of him. The stench was overwhelming, but Umbreon didn't flinch. It kept a level gaze as his eyes were fixated on every move Muk made.
Ares "Use Work Up."
Koga "Muk, start with Screech."
Umbreon started to increase his strenght as much as possible, as an ear piercing screech was released from Muk, a sound Umbreon hadn't expected Muk could make. Still, Umbreon didn't back down, as he continued to use Work Up as much as he could, wanting to increase his strength as much as possible before he had to clash against the moving sludge.
Not wanting to dragg this on for too long, Koga mad his move, ordering Muk to use Poison gas.
Muk belched out a massive cloud of poisonous gas, spreading out quickly as it made its way across the battlefield.
Ares "Protect"
Umbreon back away, putting up a forcefield that halted the advancement of the poisonous gas. While it had been blocked, the gas still lingered, making the situation worse.
Koga "Gunk Shot"
What followed was a aerial assault of garbage being shot towards Umbreon, who was out of reach for any close combat actions.
Ares "Double Team"
As the shots of garbage came closer to Umbreon, Umbreon suddenly multiplied, as dozens of him began to appear on the battlefield, each one of them dodging or getting hit by the attack.
While dodging, Umbreon got closer and closer towards Muk, his eyes looking for the place it would hurt the most.
Ares "Psychic."
As one of the few moves he had Umbreon train under the tutelage of Mew, it was their trump card in case they were against unfavorable enemies. Such as fighting types, or in this case poison-types.
Umbreon's eyes glinted in a blue light as Muk's body began to float. Muk wobbled unevenly, as its great bulk began to fight to get out of the Psychic's control. With every second in was inside of the Psychic's control, pain lashed out through its body.
Koga "Use Mud slap!"
Seeing no chance to free itself, Muk hurled multiple projectiles of mud towards Umbreon. Umbreon dodged sideways, but not before hurling Muk with great force downwards.
As Muk was crashing down, a few of the projectiles managed to hit Umbreon. Umbreon backed away a bit, pawing the mud from his face as he glared at Muk.
Muk itself was getting up a bit wobbly. Even if it had a good special defense, the psychic attack still dealt a lot of damage.
Koga "Get in close."
Muk nodded understandingly towards Koga, rushing towards Umbreon with a speed faster than before.
Umbreon had no intention getting Muk anywhere near him and unleashed multiple shadow balls towards it. Muk incased all the attacks, getting within reach of Umbreon as its body began to glow in a white light.
Knowing what Muk was doing, even without the clear orders from Koga, Ares yelled out towards Umbreon,
Ares "Protect, hurry"
Ditching the previous attack sequence, Umbreon quickly put up a protect, just in time as Muk had used explosion. A massive force blasted the forcefield, cracks forming under the sheer force of the explosion. The protection barely held, having protected Umbreon from the brunt of the attack. While a lot of the force had been decreased, it attack still left umbreon with a lot of damage.
As the smoke subsided, Muk was seen passed out, while Umbreon was still standing. He was badly damaged, but he seemed happy with the victory.
Koga "You have done your job Muk, return"
Returning Muk to his pokeball, Koga took out another pokemon.
Appearing on the battlefield was a Venomoth. It beat its wings strongly, a fine powder fluttering down with every beat.
Ares "A Venomoth. Umbreon, watch out for the dust released from its wings."
From the dark color the wings had, Ares could deduce it was highly poisonous.
Koga "Venomoth, use gust."
At the word of Koga, Venomoth created a strong gust, the powder from its wings getting mingled amongst it. With no chance to evade it, nor putting up a Protect, Umbreon was hit hard with the attack, getting poisoned on top of that.
Ares didn't see an option for Umbreon to win this fight for now, so he did the next best thing.
He returned Umbreon to his pokeball.
If there was a chance for Umbreon to fight on later, he would. But when Umbreon was so heavily poisoned as it was now, the chances were slim.
Without a word, Ares called out his next pokemon, Pidgeot.
Pidgeot locked on to the bug in front of it, his eyes gleaming in excitement. There was a bug he could hunt right in front of it.
Ares "Agility"
Increasing his speed in a rapt pace, Pidgeot flew above the Venomoth, ready to dive down any second this battle continued.
Koga "Gust"
Ares "Air slash"
Both pokemon furiously beat their wings, Venomoth to spread its poison, while Pidgeot cut a path through the poisonous cloud. Both attacks collided, yet the air slash cut through easily, reaching Venomoth in the blink of an eye.
Venomoth dodged to the side, yet was grazed.
Its speed immediately plummeted, visibly showing its weakness.
Ares "Hurricane"
Pidgeot rose up in the air, beating its wings as hard as it could as a giant blast of air shot towards the Venomoth
Koga "Protect!"
Venomoth hastily put up a protect, but it was flimsy and crude. It didn't take even a second for Pidgeot to break through it.
The Hurricane engulfed Venomoth, pushing in backwards and crashed into the building. Venomoth slid down the wall, crashing head first to the ground.
From the surroundings, a ninja came down and checked on Venomoth, shaking his head towards Koga.
Venomoth had fainted.
Returning Venomoth to its pokeball, Koga was surprised the battle had ended so swiftly. Even if Venomoth was up against a flying type, it would have at least dealt a bit of damage before it would lose. This only proved how strong the opponents Pidgeot was.
But he wouldn't let Ares win his gym badge that easily.
Calling out his next pokemon Koga would show the Pidgeot what fast really meant.
Appearing on the battlefield was a large, purple bat pokemon, Crobat.
Its wings moved so fast they became blurry.
Koga "Cross Poison."
Probaat moved lightning fast, arriving before Pidgeot before it could even react.
Ares "Block it with Steel Wing"
Pidgeot moved its wings just in time to block the attack, but was launched backwards. Shaking its head furiously, Pidgeot used Quick attack to counter.
Koga "Quick Guard"
Probaat quickly folded its wings in front of it, a small protective barrier covered the wings.
Ares "Change to Aerial Ace"
Midattack, Pidgeots speed suddenly increased, as flying type energy mixed around itself. Stretching out its claws, slashing the Crobat right in the head.
Crobat grunted softly, but that was all as it immediately pursued after Pidgeot.
Koga "Toxic"
Launching Toxic after Toxic, they finally hit Pidgeot, who became badly poisoned afterwards.
As Pidgeot got damaged more and more, both Ares and Koga wanted to finish this as soon as possible.
Koga "Venoshock"
Ares "Facade"
Both pokemon rushed to the other, attacks hitting the other as both crashed down.
Pidgeot tried to get up, only to collapse.
Crobat wasn't much better, but it still got up, flying a bit weakly.
Returning Pidgeot to its pokeball, Ares sent in Pikachu to deal with Crobat, while still contemplating what the last pokemon from Koga might be. With Pidgeot out of the running and Umbreon on the brink of collapse, he could only count on Pikachu and his other pokemon.
Deciding to just wait and see, the battle continued, as Pikachu sent a thunderbolt towards Crobat, ending the battle instantly, as Crobat was in no state to truly do something else than fly.
With three of his pokemon defeated, Koga had only one pokemon left to battle with.
Koga "Your pokemon are strong, you have trained them well.
Sending out his last pokemon, an Arbok, one bigger than Ares had ever seen appeared on the battle field.
It hissed softly as it towered vastly above Pikachu.
Pikachu covered under its fierce gaze, slowly backing away from the Arbok. She glanced at Ares, fearful of what her trainer might say.
Ares "You don't have to battle if you don't want to. I understand."
Ares said as he crouched down towards Pikachu's eye level.
Koga just remained silent as he watched both trainer and pokemon converse.
Pikachu hesitated, looking from the intimidating and scary Arbok, towards her trainer who said it was okay to be scared and not wanting to battle.
Braving her nerves, Pikachu glared back at the Arbok, not wanting to disappoint her trainer with her fears.
Koga "Are you ready."
Ares "I guess so."
Ares replied, as the shivering and trembling of Pikachu had subsided a bit.
Koga "Arbok, use Poison Sting."
Arbok launched a few dozen of purple poison stings, flying right towards Pikachu. Pikachu dodged to the side, evading with a Quick attack. Seeing she managed to dodge the attack gave Pikachu a little bit more confidence than before.
Ares "Pikachu, use Iron Tail."
Pikachu rushed forward, still using Quick Attack as she ran circles around Arbok, seeking for a chance to attack with Iron Tail. Arbok was curled up, waiting for the moment Pikachu made a move to counter attack.
Pikachu finally saw a gap, rushing forward tail aglow.
Koga "Now Arbok, use Wrap."
Waiting for Pikachu to come close, Arbok lunged forward, wrapping Pikachu tightly in its coils. It squeezed harder and harder, the glow in Pikachu's tail fading as she had difficulties breathing.
Ares remained calm, seeing this as an opportunity for Pikachu to land a clean hit.
Ares "Use Thunderbolt!"
Pikachu screamed out in pain, but still unleashed a powerful Thunderbolt. Arbok was twitching as the electricity was coursing through its body, its coils slowly loosening up.
Ares "Slam it down! Iron Tail"
Jumping out of the coils, Pikachu jumped up high and brought her tail down with force, the steel energy hardening her tail. Pikachu's tail solidly connected with Arbok's head, sending it face down to the ground.
Seeing Arbok still moving, Pikachu launched another Iron Tail, once more landing on the same spot. She continued to do that up to the point Arbok finally fainted.
Seeing her opponent laying still on the ground, Pikachu panted heavily. This was the first time she was up against a pokemon so big and frightening. Yet she persevered and managed to win.
Cheering to herself, Pikachu rushed towards Ares and jumped in his embrace, happy her battle went well.
Ares "Good job, Pikachu."
Ares caressed her head, watching Koga return Arbok to its pokeball after thanking it for the battle.
Koga walked towards him, badge in hand.
Koga "Well done, young trainer. You have earned the Soul badge. Continue with your training and never stop to believe in your pokemon."
Koga handed Ares the Soul badge, a pink heart shaped badge.
Putting the badge away safely in a badge case, Ares left towards Fuchsia city to heal his pokemon at the pokemon center.
