The mindscape greets me, vivid and pulsing with life. Aruzhan was already waiting for me. As she looked over the growing planets she had planted with the seeds from my storage.
"Feeling pumped, Ellehish?" Aruzhan tosses me a knowing look, her voice light but probing.
"Yeah, ready to kill some more Uruk-hai if they cross my path," I reply, moving closer to see the plants.
Aruzhan's laughter rings through the mindscape, clear and bright. Then she shifts, her expression turning a bit more serious. "Do you think we will be able to head back home soon?"
The question stings, a sharp reminder of what I've left behind. "maybe, honestly we could try our lick at a different province," I admit. "Surely that godling wouldnt track us down, maybe, and hopefully that necromancer isnt alive at the moment. But ill deal with him later for sure."
"I hope so, id like to see them suffer at our hands," Aruzhan nods, her tone softening. "we could try our hand at Awalion's homeland."
"Thats not a bad idea," I agree, clenching my fists at the thought. "This could give us the chance to learn more about the green lady, plus if I can figure out how to get to the shivering isles that would be a great bonus."
"Switching gears—what's your take on Lady Galadriel?" Aruzhan's question pulls me back.
"Didn't appreciate her trying to sneak into my head. It's like an invasion of privacy," I grumble, still irked by the memory, maybe it was my modern mindset, but it really bugged me.
"She's intense, for sure. Gotta keep our guards up around power leaders like her," Aruzhan comments, a frown flickering across her features.
"Will do. Nobody should get a free pass to rummage through my thoughts," I say, firmly.
"Unless it's me" she gave me a teasing smile.
"Yeah, yeah sure," I rolled my eyes.
With a supportive smile, Aruzhan steps closer. "let's focus on the road to Rohan." she pulled me into a huh, and I held her tightly slightly tracing her back with my hand.
"Literally," I quip, as the mindscape starts to dissolve, signaling the return to reality. "See you on the other side, Aruzhan."
Opening my eyes to the waking world, I find Boromir still out like a light. I got up off the mossy tree and stretched, feeling those lovely pops. Checking my inventory, we had at least four days of food left, thanks to it just being two of us. Looking over at Boromir I took a deep breath, I lift him onto my shoulders, causing him to wake. As I stored his sword and shield. "Sorry big guy, it's time to get moving. Which way am I heading?
He pointed and I started walking. Boromir's weight on my back wasn't all that bad, since I had sold many of the Deadra bodies I had in storage, this wasn't a problem thenkfully. His grip on my shoulders is firm, even though he's weak from blood loss and exhaustion. We move through the woods at a steady pace.
"Ellehish," Boromir's voice is hoarse, but there's a hint of curiosity in it. "How are you so...strong already? Most people would need days, even weeks, to recover from what we went through."
I smirk, adjusting him slightly on my back to get a better grip. "Just tough, I guess."
He chuckles softly, though it's clear even laughing takes some effort. "Tough doesn't quite cover it. You're carrying me like I weigh nothing, and after that battle… most men would still be laid out, not trekking through the wilderness."
"What can I say?" I reply, my tone light. "Should I have left you behind?" I joked.
"Id hope not," he says chuckling. There's a pause, and I can feel his gaze on the back of my head. "You're...different. I've not seen many woman like you before."
I roll my eyes, but there's no real annoyance in it. "Yeah, I get that a lot. Where I come from, it's about what you can do, not what gender you are. If you can fight, you fight."
Boromir is quiet for a moment, like he's mulling over my words. "I suppose that makes sense. You're proving that well enough. Still, it's...unexpected, i meant no offense by it."
"None taken," I say, hopping over a fallen log without slowing down. " Just trying to get by."
He shifts a bit, probably trying to find a more comfortable position. "Getting by seems to be what you're best at. More than most I've known."
"Just gotta keep moving," I reply, focusing on the path ahead. "We all have our reasons."
"Indeed," he murmurs, his tone thoughtful. "But you...you move with a purpose. It's like you know exactly where you're going. I would be lying if I denied not feeling jealous in a way."
I shrug slightly, careful not to jostle him too much. "I've got my reasons, same as anyone else. Just gotta keep going forward. Can't let anything slow me down, not even you, Boromir."
He laughs softly, though he's still tired. "I'll try not to be too much of a burden."
"You're fine," I assure him, stepping around a patch of uneven ground. "Just keep guiding me to Rohan."
We fall into a comfortable silence, the only sounds around us are the rustling of leaves and the distant calls of birds. Despite everything, Boromir keeps his head, giving directions when needed, staying sharp. I can respect that. Even if he's not used to someone like me. Maybe he felt odd being carried around like this.
After a while, Boromir speaks up again, his voice soft, almost tentative. "Ellehish, I remember you mentioning something before...about where you're from. Tamriel, was it? You said it was different from here. How so?"
I grin slightly at the memory. "Yeah, Tamriel. It's a place of many kinds of elves and humans, each with their own lands and ways. Magic is a bit more...common there, I guess you could say."
He seems intrigued but cautious. "You have abilities that I've never seen, not even among the elves here. And you mentioned vampires before…. What else is there in Tamriel?"
I chuckle softly, recalling the old conversation with him, Legolas, and Gandalf. "There's a lot more than just vampires. For instance, we have Khajiit, a race of cat-like people. They walk on two legs, but they're covered in fur and have claws. They're agile, clever, and have a knack for trade. They come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, from sleek and quick to big and strong. Khajiit are living people who contribute to Tamriel in their own unique ways. I was even saved by one"
Boromir's brow furrows in thought. "Cat people? Like beasts, you mean?"
"Not exactly," I explain, choosing my words carefully. "They're as much people as you or me. They have their own culture, language, and history. Sure, they look different, but they're no less capable or intelligent."
He nods slowly, trying to picture it. "I can't imagine what that must be like. In these lands, we don't see such...diversity among people."
"And then there are the Argonians," I continue, "a race of lizard-like people who come from the swamps of Black Marsh. Though my personal information and experience with them is very lacking"
Boromir seems genuinely fascinated now. "Lizard folk and cat people... Your world sounds like it's filled with wonders and dangers both."
"It is," I say, nodding. "But it's not all that different from here, in a way."
He shifts again, his curiosity clearly piqued. "And do you have orcs in your land, are different, too?"
"Oh, very different," I reply with a small laugh. "Here, your orcs are these brutish, evil beings bred for war. In Tamriel, orcs, well, we call them Orsimer they are a proud people. They live in strongholds, have a code of honor, and are incredible craftsmen. Ive heard their smithing skills are unmatched. Sure, they're fierce in battle, but they're not mindless. They have families, traditions, and a deep sense of loyalty to their clans. Their more like the Dwarf's of these land if i had to compare them to something you know, just bigger, more human sized."
Boromir seems surprised by this. "Orcs with honor? That's...difficult to imagine."
"I know," I say, smiling a little. "But that's the thing about different lands and peoples. What seems strange or impossible to one might be perfectly normal to another. The Orsimer aren't just warriors; they're artisans, builders, and mages too."
He's silent for a moment, absorbing all this new information. Then he speaks again, his tone more thoughtful. "It sounds like Tamriel has its share of hardships, but also...a richness in its diversity. I can't say I'd ever imagined such a place."
I nod, adjusting him slightly on my back again. "It's a place I love and call home."
Boromir tightens his grip a bit, his voice carrying a note of sincerity. "I'd like to hear more about it when we have time. Your tales are unlike any I've heard."
I glance back at him with a small smile. "Maybe when we're not in a rush to get Rohan, I'll tell you more. For now, though, we need to keep moving. The sooner we get there, the better."
He chuckles softly, though he's still tired. "Right. Onward, then."
And just like that they days flew by. Three days pass as Boromir and I continue our trek through the dense woods. The sun rises and falls, and the only thing that changes is the distance we cover. Boromir's strength slowly returns, but he's still too weak to walk on his own, so I keep carrying him. He's been a decent guide, pointing out the directions whenever the paths fork.
By the end of the third day, just as the trees start thinning out, I sense it, something's off. A rustling in the underbrush that doesn't sound like wind or small creatures. I stop, shifting Boromir slightly on my back to keep him steady.
"What is it?" Boromir asks quietly, noticing my pause.
I don't answer immediately, my senses on high alert. Then, they emerge from the trees, a pack of wolves, their eyes sharp, fangs bared. They're hungry, and in our way.
"Wolves," I mutter, keeping my voice low and steady. "A whole pack of them."
Boromir tenses on my back, but I shake my head. "Stay calm. I've got this."
Without any magic or weapons, I tap into my werewolf side, letting it rise just enough to get the message across. My eyes glow a fierce red. The wolves hesitate, sensing the change in me, the authority in my gaze.
I lock eyes with the leader of the pack, a large wolf with a thick coat and sharp eyes. For a moment, it feels like a silent conversation, my red eyes against his normal ones. A show of power and intent. I don't need to say a word. My stance, my look, they tell the wolves everything they need to know, we are not prey, and they should find food elsewhere.
The leader growls low, but it's more of a rumble of understanding than a threat. Slowly, he lowers his head, a sign of submission, and the rest of the pack follows suit. I hold his gaze a moment longer, making sure the message is clear, before letting the red fade from my eyes. The wolves turn and melt back into the forest, disappearing as quickly as they came.
Boromir exhales, a breath he must have been holding. "How did you do that?"
I shrug, continuing forward as the trees start to thin out more. "Just a trick I picked up. Comes in handy."
He doesn't press further, sensing I'm not in the mood to explain. The important thing is, we're past the wolves and finally out of the woods. As we break through the last of the trees, the plains of Rohan stretch out before us, a vast sea of grass swaying gently in the breeze.
"Look," Boromir says, pointing ahead. "We're getting closer."
I nod, glad to be out of the forest. The open plains mean fewer surprises. I adjust Boromir on my back again, feeling a renewed energy in my steps.
The plains of Rohan stretch wide under the darkening sky as we finally find a spot to rest. The open air, the breeze cool against my skin. I lower Boromir down gently and help him sit against a small hillock, the soft grass providing a decent enough cushion.
The moon is high and full, its light casting a silver glow across the landscape. I sit down beside Boromir, taking a moment to breathe and enjoy the open space. We're both quiet for a while, just taking it all in. The silence is comfortable, filled with the sounds of the plains, the rustle of grass, the distant call of a crickets.
After a bit, Boromir breaks the silence. "The moon is beautiful tonight," he says softly, looking up. "Almost makes you forget where we are."
I nod, following his gaze to the glowing orb above. "Yeah, it's nice to have some open sky for a change." I pause, then decide to share a bit more. "You know, where I'm from, we have two moons. Masser and Secunda, they're called."
Boromir looks over at me, intrigued. "Two moons? That must be quite a sight."
"It is," I say, smiling at the memory. "Masser is the larger one, bright red, and Secunda is smaller, sort of a bluish color. They move through the sky together, sometimes crossing paths. It's something else to see them both full."
Boromir's eyes widen slightly, clearly captivated by the thought. "And what does that mean for your people, having two moons?"
I think for a moment, trying to put it into words. "Well, it affects a lot of things, cycles of the Khajiit. They believe their forms are tied to the phases of the moons. A full Masser and Secunda mean a full moon phase for them, and that can change how they are born."
"Fascinating," Boromir murmurs, leaning back against the grass. "It sounds like your world is filled with wonders."
I chuckle softly. "Yeah, it has its fair share. But I guess it's like anywhere what seems normal to us might be strange to someone else. And vice versa."
He nods, a thoughtful expression on his face. "I suppose that's true. My home, Gondor, is much the same. To me, it's all I've ever known, but to you, it might seem just as strange."
I tilt my head, curious. "What's it like? Gondor, I mean."
Boromir's face softens, a hint of a smile playing on his lips. " Minas Tirith, the capital, is built into the side of a mountain, with seven levels rising up to the citadel at the top. From there, you can see the White Tree, a symbol of our people. The city itself is a fortress, designed to withstand siege, with walls of white stone that shine in the sunlight."
"Sounds impressive," I say, picturing it in my mind.
"It is," he agrees, a touch of pride in his voice. " It's the people, the farmers in the fields, the soldiers on the walls, the children playing in the streets. Their the reason many men of Gondor fight."
He pauses for a moment, then adds quietly, "But there's also a shadow over it, we are the wall that hold the tide from Mordo. Our people have seen much, suffered much. We hold on."
I nod, understanding the weight of his words. "Every place has its scars," I say softly. "Things they carry with them, whether they want to or not."
Boromir looks at me, his gaze steady. "And what about you, Ellehish? What do you carry with you from Tamriel?"
I think about that for a moment, my eyes drifting back up to the moon. "A lot, I guess. Memories, mostly. Of places and people I've known, things I've seen. People I've lost, and some that I had no choice but to leave behind."
He nods, a quiet understanding in his eyes. "It sounds like we're not so different, you and I. Two people from different worlds, both carrying the weight of our pasts."
I smile slightly at that, appreciating the simplicity of his words. "Yeah, maybe we're not." I rolled my eyes.
We lapse into another silence, the kind that's easy to fall into when there's nothing more to say. The moon watches over us, a silent guardian of the night.
After a moment, Boromir speaks again, his voice thoughtful. "Ellehish, in your land, do you have anything like our Dark Lord? A force of pure evil, something that casts a shadow over everything?"
I let out a slow breath, considering his question. "Yeah, we do. They're called the Daedra. Powerful beings that live in another realm known as Oblivion. They're not all evil, but some of them... but all of them would make your Dark Lord look like a child throwing a tantrum."
Boromir's expression darkens slightly. "Tell me more."
I nod, settling in as I prepare to recount the tale. "There was a time not too long ago, called the Oblivion Crisis. One of the Daedric Princes, Mehrunes Dagon, tried to invade Tamriel. He opened portals all over the land, called Oblivion Gates, and through them came his armies, Daedra of all shapes and sizes."
Boromir listens intently, his eyes never leaving my face. "And what happened?"
"It was chaos," I continue. "Cities were besieged, people were slaughtered. But in the end, we fought back before I ended up here. I had reached out to see what had happened and learned that a hero rose up, with the help of the last of a Dragonborn, they closed the gates. Mehrunes Dagon was banished back to his realm, and the gates to Oblivion were sealed."
Boromir's face is solemn, his voice low. "It sounds like a time of great suffering."
I nod. "It was. We lost a lot of good people. But in the end, we won. "
Boromir is quiet for a moment, processing everything I've told him. Then he looks at me with a hint of a smile. "You called me 'Lord of Winterfell' once. Why?"
I chuckle softly at the memory. "It's from a story in another place I've been. A tale of a noble house in a land of ice and snow. The Starks of Winterfell. Their leader was called Lord Stark. Strong, honorable, and stubborn as hell. Reminded me a lot about you."
He raises an eyebrow, clearly amused. "And you planned to meet this Lord Stark?"
I nod, smiling. "Yeah, after I leave this world, that's where I'm headed. I've got a few things to sort first though back in my own world. But that's a tale for another time."
Boromir laughs softly, shaking his head. "You're a strange one, Ellehish. But I think I'm starting to understand you."
"Ah, i wouldnt worry to much," I reply, stretching out a bit on the grass. "Not like ill be staying here long after the ring is destroyed."
He nods, his expression serious. "I see, well if anything else I do wish you a save travel."
The night stretches on, the chill of the air settling in, but neither of us seems to mind. We're two people from different worlds, sharing stories under a moonlit sky. And for now, that's enough. The road ahead is long, and who knows what awaits us in Rohan, but for this moment, we find a bit of peace in each other's company.
The stars begin to peek out one by one, and I find myself thinking of Tamriel, of Masser and Secunda. And hopefully they were both still alive in the shivering isles.
So I'm trying to make it more interesting, hopefully you all enjoyed it.
