Kapitel 91: Chapter 91
Sonja attacked one of the monsters, but as soon as she laid a hand on them, she instantly felt drowsy as the screams of a thousand people echoed in her ears. She fell to the ground, unable to move her limbs as the slop of clay grew legs, arms, a neck, and a thin body.
Sonja tried to scream, but no noise came from her mouth. The blob of clay, now in the form of a man with red, shining marbles for eyes walked towards her. Slop, slop, slop, SLOP, SLOP! It was exceedingly slow and had no proper form or grace to its strides, but Sonja could now only move her limbs a little.
Before Sonja could crawl even an inch away, the bad man had gotten her. As he grabbed her by the neck, terror shot through her entire body. But she didn't feel anything. She slowly contracted into a ball of white, which digested itself into nothingness.
Meanwhile, Tails, Buck and Knuckles were struggling to break the forcefield around Marilyssa as it expanded ever so slightly by the second. Sonic found he couldn't do much, as he needed to account for Pico's safety. Spindashing would hurt the woolly mammoth, and he could only punch with one arm. No fancy moves for Sonic.
"Oh? What's this?" Marilyssa asked.
"What's what?!" Sonic grunted as he tried to push the forcefield back. To no avail. Soon, it would push them all off of the platform they were on and send them hurdling into the time vortex below.
"One of my Mariloids' kill counts went up. They got someone by the name of... oh, I dunno... Sonja Orglace?" Marilyssa said, casually. As though she didn't care. Sonic's heart skipped a beat. Pico broke into a crying tantrum when he heard that. He didn't know what it meant exactly, but that word... kill... it sounded mean and bad. Did something bad happen to his mommy?
"You monster!" Sonic shouted. He tried to not cry as to not alarm Pico further. "How could you do this?!" Sonic screamed. "WHY? TELL ME!"
"I didn't kill her, she killed herself!" Marilyssa replied. Sonic couldn't do anything as the force field around Marilyssa pushed him and his friends closer and closer to the edge. "Can't you see? This was just one big suicide mission on your part! You would've died either way!" Sonic looked at his friends, who were struggling to keep their lives.
Sonic looked back at Marilyssa, denying it all. This wasn't a suicide mission. It couldn't be. They had made it so far, this couldn't be the end! Sonic's mouth wiggled and stretched into a smile. "Well if I go down, I'm taking you with me at least!" Sonic started to move his gaze down towards Pico. This baby was the last thing Sonja left him. Sonja entrusted him with something. He wouldn't back down. He wouldn't give up! This baby was his life. This baby was his power. This baby was his reason to keep moving on now.
This baby... was gone...
Sonic blinked. More than once. No. This couldn't be! He didn't just disappear, did he? What happened? He heard the laugh of Marilyssa. "Haha! It's already starting!" Marilyssa cackled. "Take a look around you, Sonic the Hedgehog!"
Sonic didn't obey. He would never obey. It went against his very way of life. But he couldn't not watch. It scrolled around him like a film reel. He saw the Chaotix Detective Agency HQ first. Empty. Vector the Crocodile's headphones and chain lay on the floor, in the empty and dead house. Espio the Chameleon's ninja stars... Charmy Bee's helmet.
"Cream!" Amy's voice screamed. Sonic turned around. There, he saw Cream and Vanilla the Rabbit disappearing bit by bit. And Amy as well, though at a slower pace.
"NOOO!" She screamed as the two rabbits disappeared completely. She fell to her hands and knees, and screamed as she disappeared completely as well.
This horrible reality forced its way into Sonic's mind as he saw all of his friends disappear in the broken and devastated chunk of rock that was once called Mobius. Everybody and everything... He kept pushing forward, tears now falling from his eyes. He was this planet's hero. Even if there was nothing left to protect, he'd keep on fighting even if it was just for the core alone. Forever.
Marilyssa kept laughing. Sonic felt like turning into Dark Sonic right now, but that was fruitless. No matter how much he tried to channel the dark energy in his mind, he was too defeated. Eventually, Sonic had to stop pushing. He was completely and utterly beaten.
"Sonic!" Tails and Knuckles cried. "Help!" Sonic looked over. To see his last remaining best friends be torn away from this reality and into non-existence. Buck disappeared out of the corner of Sonic's vision. Then Knuckles. Then... Tails.
Sonic didn't realize until it was already too late, but he had fallen off the edge of the platform. The last thing he saw was Marilyssa's wicked face as he fell.
Sonic was in free-fall as he too, began to fade. Sonic tried to channel Dark Sonic. Channel Dark Sonic so he could fly up there, break down the shield, and torture Marilyssa for the time he had left.
But it didn't work.
And then, Sonic felt himself be crushed in the cold, dark hands of time as he vanished.
Mobius was gone. "Yes... finally!" Marilyssa cried. She laughed and danced around. "I've done it! Humanity and the Earth have been saved!"
Marilyssa was overjoyed. More than anyone should be ever. She relished in the fact that so many Mobians were lost. Their planet destroyed. Any loving memory of them spat on and crushed. She was so overjoyed, that she didn't realize one thing... She was starting to erase everything without even knowing it.
Entire centuries were destroyed in an instant. Everyone and everything. They met the same fate that Mobius had. All across the dimension. The Xorda. Gone. Wisps. Destroyed. All of history came to a close around her, and in her oblivion, she didn't notice.
Until she too, was gone.
