Back at home Jonathan contemplated what had happened at the junkyard. He had fallen forwards towards the ground but then he found himself laying on his back. Not in pain like he should have felt. A little bit dizzy but no pain whatsoever. The ground just turned into the sky. Maybe he had hit his head and that knocked him out? There's no way that was the case he would feel pain. All at once Jonathan gasped and yelled,'' Holy crap did I teleport! If I can teleport that would be awesome.
Jonathan focused his mind on a small spot on his dining room table. He saw nothing and when he dropped a pencil onto the table the only thing that happened was it flipped. Jonathan froze; did it just flip sides without a bounce? Dropping it again he saw it for a quick moment the pencil fell into the table but came out just as fast as it went in cancelling out the momentum making it just look flipped. "Dude! I can teleport stuff, but can I teleport stuff to different spots? He kept his focus on the table. He also thought of the counter next to his toaster oven he never uses. Something seemed different on the spot he was focusing on. He dropped the pencil into his table hole. Nothing happened. The pencil just disappeared. "Wait? What happened I pictured two portals. Why isnt the second one spitting out my pencil!
Confused, he tried it again with the fake metal spoon. Same thing the spoon just disappeared and didn't show up in the other portal. Getting up he went to his counter portal and pushed the toaster oven over it and the thing fell into the hole. But it didn't come out the other one. Jonathan started to get frustrated by the turn of events. He liked that pencil. He didn't really care about the toaster oven or fake metal spoon. He had an idea! Jonathan took out his," cellular communication device." Everytime he needs his phone for something he'd always say that in his head. Opening up the camera he set the thing to video and started it. Sliding the phone into the portal half way. He turned it in various directions and angles slowly to get the most. But never once did he let his hand slip into the portal. He pulled the phone out and watched the video. He was shocked. The emptiness was strange, it wasn't dark or light. The background wasn't black or white it was colorless void. But he did see his toaster spoon and pencil all near the edge of the portal all within reach. "But wait where is the stuff I dissolved? Does it not go into the void? Stuck thinking he let his portals go. Poking around where the holes had been with a sharp knife they were closed." If I close the portal, the staff stays there. Can it dissolve in that space? Can people breathe in there? How can the space be colorless? Does it have a size? Or is his void infinite?"
Jonathan's phone rang not realizing that it was ringing till its third ring. He picked it up," hello?" " Good evening Jonathan is Cyrus Ralph. I am calling to say that the position you applied for was taken. I'm sorry. I can however offer you a position as a janitor?" Jonathan sighed audibly and said,'' I'm not gonna lie, I really don't care for that idea. However I do like the company and the staff so I'll take you up on that offer. When can I start?" Cyrus laughed so loud that Jonathan heard it and replied," well I like the attitude. Can you start next Monday? I want to say earlier but I want you to get your stuff in order." After finalizing some other details Cyrus hung up. Being cut off because something came up and he needed to help his secretary.
Jonathan spent the next couple days preparing for his new job. Prepped his week's lunches on Sunday night. While prepping he did expand his skills with the new powers. He found a common theme for what dissolves. It seems like most metals will dissolve. No wood, garbage bags, fabrics, cardboard, vinyl, cement, bricks, a bunch of other stuff as well wouldn't dissolve. He found that he could store stuff in his portal pouch. Which he figured would be useful. He had also put his hand into the portal after a five hour mental debate. He lost his safety reasoning when it was two am. The first thing he grabbed was the pencil. After further studying he found that the objects placed into the portal stay in the same relative position as if it was on earth but there was nothing. If he placed an object in the hole like his toaster oven and walked ten feet away. The object would appear ten feet away from the new hole in the direction from earth's view. Which confused Jonathan when he reached into the emptiness and grabbed the oven from ten feet away.
Jonathan found himself amazed by the fact that things looked so far away in his void. But they could easily be grabbed. Saturday night he had drunk a little much. In which he accidentally discovered the secret to the other end of the portal. Jonathan had been making drunk tacos which had the basics for taco making but held more. He had added cucumber, sage, pickles, sausage, and mozzarella sticks. Having finished making his taco. He walked back to his couch and tripped forwards catching the taco in his portal. He immediately followed up the catch with a portal backwards. His thoughts were if he just flipped the portal it'll come out and it did! So if he imagined the portal backwards it would release the object immediately placed in any forward facing hole. Which was confusing at first and even still now.
"Why does making the portal backwards release the object immediately placed into the other portal? Also where in the word does that stuff he dissolves go?" He wondered about this while having two portals directly across from each other vertically. He dropped an apple into the bottom one and it fell. The apple had kept falling, building up velocity. Jonathan had got up to grab water. Forgetting about the apple he had to still focus on the portals. Jonathan had gotten good at the portal controls. Being able to keep a portal active as far away as his outside step. However far that was his place was in the back of the three story place. So it was a fair distance.
When he had discovered that he was able to keep it open for that far he was ecstatic to the point of jumping up and down."Oh dang it." Jonathan said when he realized he had left the water on during his backflash. When he got back to his chair he realized his mistake! The apple had reached terminal velocity speeding through the portals falling indefinitely. Jonathan smacked his forehead. He had done this before. His portals can be set up to cancel out any velocity. But only at its creation, not mid use. But now how is he gonna avoid having an apple falling at two hundred and fifty miles per hour. From slamming into his walls or floor?
