<Eric Jarl POV>
That was my first emotional outburst and I hate to admit that this outburst helped me more than I thought.
When I managed to calm down I saw Rick trying to comfort me by giving me a hug from a father to a child. And that was the moment I understand what I should do from now onwards. I don't want to become a tyrant or an egoistical brat that thinks he can do everything just because he has some power. I need to be strong for my people, but I also need to let them know if something is wrong or if I ever will need a person to talk to about my problems or worries.
After my men finished digging the two graves for our fallen soldiers, we buried them after a short speech from Maxson. When the corpses were in the grave, I picked one of the shovels and took a bit of dirt, and put it over one of the dead bodies, following my example, all of my men did the same thing I did. Even Rick and his group joined as a sign of respect for the fallen warriors.
Ten minutes later, we were ready to leave the clinic. Fortunately for us, my group cleaned the clinic a while ago, before Rick and the horde could find us.
Our trip to Rick's safe haven was quite silent as no one has the desire to speak or joke after what happened back there. I know that one of the reasons they don't break the silence is their respect for me even if I sometimes think that I don't deserve it. I may do some crazy stunts from time to time or I would bring things that we desperately need, but still, I don't think I'm a good leader. This is the reason they respect me. They saw me striving for a better future for our community and that makes me a good leader in their eyes.
While I was thinking about their reasons to believe in me, I slowly fall asleep as the fatigue finally won the battle against my will.
<Maxson POV>
Looking in the rearview mirror I saw Eric sleeping with a peaceful face for the first time. Even if I joined him not too long ago, this is the first time I saw so relaxed when sleeping. Normally we would be stiff and every single sound would wake him up, but after he let his emotions get lose, I could see how relaxed he become. I will surely speak with Gale about this matter when we return back home.
Our journey to Rick's place was enjoyable in a way as the sound of silence was quite calming and I could arrange my thoughts without any worry. And while the silence was enjoyable for a while, after some time I remember the times when I served for the first time in Afghanistan, and how many friends I lost there for a so-called world pace that will never be achieved.
<Eric Jarl POV>
The sudden stop of the car scared me which made me woke up, only to see a huge prison through the car's window. At first, I didn't register what happened, but after a second or two, I remembered that we were going to Rick's base and apparently we arrived.
Rick chose a good place to settle his group. The place has tall fences all around it, with watchtowers that can see all around the prison and if you use a binocular you may see any movement close to the exit of the forest.
Entering through the first fence, I saw the familiar face of Hershel. Though I don't know if Rick informed him or not, the old man was glaring at our vans ready to shot us if we do something suspicious.
While I was glad to see him alive, I was still worried about her and I hope that I will see her as soon as I get down from the car.
After we entered the prison, Hershel closed the gate behind us and then he walked towards Rick's car.
"And they are?"
"They are an old friend of ours. You know him better than me though and I'm sure our kids will like to see him once again."
"Heh, so that brat has finally found us. Took him long enough. My poor baby girl was so worried for his sorry ass while he was touring the roads."
Just as Rick was about to respond, I walked out of the car.
"Not a really old man. I had to take care of something and that led me to move my whole community out of Atlanta. On top of that, I got myself an upgrade if you like to call it like that."
At first, he didn't know what I was talking about, but when he took a closer look at my body, he saw that I was missing an arm.
"Sorry, kid. I didn't know."
"No need to worry about it. I'm already over it. It was a mistake on my part and this is the price I had to pay. While I miss my old arm, this one is quite nice."
"If that is the truth, then I'm glad for you. Now, tell me how did you two meet?"
"We saved Daryl from a group of bikers and he brought Rick to us when we were quite busy with a horde."
"I see. I'm glad to have you back kid."
"Same here old man, I'm glad to see you alive and kicking."
"Eric, let's get you guys inside. We can discuss over a cup of tea, after all, we all are tired from fighting that horde."
"That's true Rick. Well then, everybody you are free to relax till further orders. Enjoy your mini-vacation."
Creation is hard, cheer me up!
