6.66% 100 Ways to Solve a Murder / Chapter 14: The trio

Kapitel 14: The trio

The trio, consisting of Levi, Sam, and Marco arrived in the crime scene. It was located inside a posh apartment building in Central London. The three had to ride an elevator to the 15th floor to get there. Inside room 1502 were several investigators and the forensic team was all fully equipped in forensic suits, masks, overshoes, etcetera.

"Gray, what are you doing here?" Jones seethed at the sight of Sam, entering the crime scene, HIS crime scene, with Levi and Marco ahead conversing with Inspector Davies.

"Just tagging along," Sam replied nonchalantly walking past him, after the two boys.

"Dr. Gray, fancy seeing you here." Davies greeted the redhead, shaking her hand. He was both surprised and enthused at the thought of what Dr. Summers and the Chief Superindentent of Criminal Investigation Department calls, The Dead Whisperer. Highly acclaimed in her field, he was surprised he didn't know her before she took the Directorial job in Guy's Hospital.

"Good to see you again, D.I Davies. Do you mind?" Sam asked, with a smile on her face. Davies shifted from Jones to her, unsure.

"She could be of actual use, unlike him." Levi quipped, wanting to get it over with. Davies gave Jones an apologetic smile, shrugging.

Jones scoffed while Sam stuck her tongue at him like a child.

The three were guided to the crime scene, to a living room where a woman was lying on the floor, no visible wounds, blue eyes wide open, and ruby red lips open in the middle of a scream. Voice never heard. She was dressed in corporate clothes, obviously expensive, stiletto still on, and her makeup and hair done finely.

And she was undeniably beautiful, curves in all the right places and skin without flaw.

"Sasha Van Der Beek, 34years old, Civil Litigation Lawyer. Found dead 2 hours ago by the housekeeper." Davies started while Levi did his thing, analyzing everything in the room.

Sam simply looked at the dead woman, scowling.

"What do you think?" Levi turned to her, itching to see her work Live in a crime scene.

She sighed, she didn't like seeing dead people like the next normal person in the room, but the thing was it was her job. And her job was Nobel. She loved her job--she loved that she can be the voice of those who would never speak again. She loved that she could help bring justice to their deaths.

She loved that she was needed.

She opened her hand to Jones who knew exactly what she wanted. He placed a pair of latex gloves in her hand indignantly, yet a part of him accepts that the woman next to him was The Best.

How she worked out and saw patterns, memorized every case she handled was beyond him. She could identify what knife made, what kind, what brand with a look of a wound. She was advanced in her field. Creating her own road, where people follow. She was an example, an idea, a goal every Forensic Pathologist strives for.

Sam approached the body after putting the gloves on, and overshoes. The most important thing in a crime scene is keeping its integrity, at best of their ability. She took note of the smell. Then she examined the body, touching the skin.

"Poison." Jones said, "Wind your neck in, you gowl." the Irishman said, annoyed by his interruption, while Sam was thinking.

"It's true. Look at her lips, white foam." Jones insisted, pointing the woman's foamy mouth.

"We can all see the foam, thank you." Sam quipped, checking the woman's nails. French tip, manicured recently.

"Bizarre. Creepy and bizarre." Sam mused out loud.

"What is?" Davies asked, cocking Levi a look of confusion.

"This was staged," Sam replied, causing Levi to clap once enthused. "Bang on!" He said approaching her, he was so happy that she saw it. He knew she would see it. But figuring it out in 5 minutes impressed him. She really wasn't like most people. Most people Levi found were a bunch of Gowls.

*GOWL an Irish slang meaning Annoying stupid person*

"Staged? I don't see it." Jones said, "Cop on! (Don't be stupid!) Look at the bleedin' state of her. You feckin' tools" Levi expressed, causing everyone who didn't see it to frown insulted. Just another day in Levi's quest to vex everyone in the World.

Marco huffed, arms crossed, "Just explain it," he said annoyed, that he was being arrogant again. His narcissistic personality disorder, as Levi had previously self-diagnosed himself with was showing.

"What you see is important, but what you can't see says it all," Sam said Levi nodded urging her to continue.

"Hair and skin freshly washed. There's still a faint trace of soap and shampoo on her. Only possible approximately 15-20 minutes after the bath itself. Seeing as she has signs of rigor mortis, it only means the killer was responsible for this. Including the newly manicured nails, nail polish scent still present. Hair and makeup perfectly done; with expensive clothing she didn't own."

"How do you know she didn't own the clothes?" Davies asked, wondering where she got that from.

"She can't afford it." Sam answers.

"Because this woman is broke, as you can see from the number of unpaid bills on the table." Levi provided, pointing at the table close by with piled up bills.

"But she's a Lawyer!" Jones argued, lawyers are one of the highest-paid professions in the country.

"She's a plastic surgery addict." Sam provided, still crouched next to the body, earning a look of surprise from everyone even Levi. That he didn't see.

Sam coached him to come closer so she could show it to him and explain. And he did just that, he crouched across her. Sam pointed at the woman's breasts.

"They're too close to each other, and they're too high up." Sam said, "Is that envy I see, Gray?" Jones scoffed, women do that, he thought, ridicule other women to make themselves feel better.

"I can't believe the government is wasting taxpayers' money on your level of stupidity, Jones. What should I envy a dead woman for? Look at it, observe it! Don't gawk at it for your bloody pleasure, she's dead, you disgusting Rat!" Sam snapped. Davies elbowed Jones, chiding him silently.

The look on Sam's face was a first, it was anger. Anger that someone would accuse her of anything personal against a helpless woman, especially that of a dead woman. She was far from envious. What was to envy towards the dead?

Everyone including Levi took note of her flared temper.

Sam turned back down to the woman on the floor, "Most women's breasts have 2 to 3 inches of space in between them, but implants shrink that gap significantly. When doctors put in implants, they'll generally just pop them in and set the breasts close to each other, near the midline of the chest," she explains.

Sam points at Sasha Van Der Beek's torso, "Another dead giveaway is her breasts are set too high on her chest. Usually, they should sit right around where the armpits are, but a botched boob job when implants are placed in from the armpits can make the breasts ride up higher," she explained further.

Standing up, Sam adds "Also, her nose had been done too, and her cheeks and chin."

She turns to Jones, glaring. "If you don't believe me, get her medical history or you can discover that yourself when you strip her down and see the scars. I'm betting my annual salary on it, will you bet yours? I absolutely don't mind, even if it's significantly lower." Sam spat, Jones remained silent. He wouldn't bet his salary on anything especially to a seething redhead, who was rarely wrong if she ever was.
