Kan'na stepped from the sky, facing Orothus she pointed a finger and several magic spells manifested. Lines sprouted and formed a triangle, sealing Orothus into a prism. Getting close enough to the ground to where her massive magic circle robe barely skimmed its hem on the dirt, she spoke to the Lich, "We're here to avenge Goldlight."
The Lich let off a menacing feel, "That small time place? Your strength transcends such a place, this seems like there's another reason."
Not bothering to answer Kan'na swiped her hand and shackles formed on Orothus' hands and feet. These stretched outwards and prevented the Lich from moving. Hanging from these he continued to speak with a layer of venom in his voice, "You think you're strong enough to tank on the king?"
"The king? That's not what were here for. Did you not just hear me?"
Several magic concatenations formed and created a complex looking needle. Moving it close Kan'na was prepared to stab it through the Lich's head when a piercing scream entered her ears. Immediately her attention was drawn away and forcefully dragged towards the Dulluhan. Immediately she recognized the taunting Skill and one of the magic circles on her coat jerked in a quarter spin. Piercing her side was a painful needle, but the damage was minimal. More importantly it negated the taunting ability of the Dulluhan! A large majority of taunting skills could be canceled upon taking a form of damage, the problem was that your attacks often had to be directed towards the one who used the taunting ability.
This magic circle she placed upon her robe would trigger whenever she was placed under a taunt, and deal a bit of damage to her immediately to quickly rid of the forceful aggro pull. Twisting Kan'na turned back to the Lich, and paused. The needle she designed was to analyze the Lich and find out where he hid his phylactery. The Lich should be entirely unarmed since she freed the souls under his control. Yet a series of runes began to glow on his skeleton. These ancient runes were similar to the ones responsible for the continent teleport artifact.
The magic holding the Lich shattered and Orothus fell onto the ground, with the runes still glowing. Kan'na had brushed up on her knowledge of these ancient runes during The Gated Arena. It wasn't as if they were complex. More akin to how older versions of modern languages sound. The equivalent of shakespearean for runes. So at a glance she was gaining an understanding of what the runes meant.
However despite the Lich wearing no clothing, and Kan'na gaining a full sight on all the available runes, she could not understand what their purpose was. It was incomplete, perhaps something in progress? If that was the case how did Orothus free himself from his shackles? The Lich didn't bother to explain his reasoning but did provide a small hint, "Did you think I willingly chose death magic? Souls were the simplest answer to my plight."
The Dulluhan rode his steed towards Kan'na and thrust his lance. However several magic circles formed in its path and held the thrust to a standstill. Kan'na glanced towards Harreth and glared, "Keep out of this."
Several constraints formed on Harreth and began to pull him apart. The Lich charged forward and Kan'na swung her hand to create several barriers, but Orothus smashed through these with no resistance. Upon touching Harreth the constraints shattered and Kan'na narrowed her gaze.
Magic immunity? The reason Orothus used souls was because he couldn't use mana? Didn't that just make her magic completely ineffective? The moment this thought ran through her mind she almost scoffed at the thought. The entire reason she ascended magic into the third dimension was so that she never had to deal with any problem again! The Key to All!
Fine the reason why Orothus was immune to magic first! There was no such thing as complete immunity! She would make sure of it! Magic circles manifested across the ground and earthen spikes shot up. As they went to pierce the two the spikes crumbled to plain dirt and fell back to the ground. Pointing a finger she formed several flames that licked at the bones of the Lich before flickering out. At this point the joints in Orothus' fingers cracked and he dashed towards Kan'na, outstretching his hand to grab her.
His hand passed through and her image fizzled out. Despite his immunity to mana he was still able to sense it, this was an illusion and teleport spell. Yet to be created this fast? Turning around he offered praise laced with venom, "You've drastically improved Magus."
Kan'na didn't respond and instead formed a sphere of magic circles. Wind began to shred and spin inside of the sphere, but as Orothus walked forward it shattered and the wind only kicked up dust.
Yielya's voice spoke into her ear, "Kan'na! Move the Third Stage enemies outside of the Territory! If they're outside then we won't have to worry about them rising again!"
She had to give credit where it was due. Considering that she was still maintaining the gap in the Territory it would've been possible. However their sole and main target was now immune to her magic, and could not be teleported away. This did not apply to the Dulluhan however.
Outstretching a palm towards Harreth she immediately formed several magic circles and aimed to teleport the Dulluhan outside of the Territory. Yet the magic circles sparked and shattered. She snapped her head to look at Harreth and spotted several ancient runes on his steed, they flashed for a moment before fading.
Now this she was able to understand, it was a complete circuit. It was upon reading these runes that she finally understood what was going on. This wasn't magic immunity! This was mana rejection! Since every thing in the World had mana, this was akin to rejecting the world. Or rather the influence of mana within it. Souls didn't have mana within them, and thus Orothus was capable of wielding that form of magic. It was very likely that the huge amount of souls Orothus carried had suppressed this mana rejection by covering the runes. The moment Kan'na freed the souls she had instead made the mana rejection surface with its full force!
Orothus seemed to have written similar runes on Harreth when he originally dispelled the constraints. Except this time it was far simpler, rejecting forms of teleport magic. Yielya's command came a step too late! Yet Kan'na only blamed herself for not thinking of this solution earlier!
It wouldn't have been possible to teleport those within the Territory out before teleporting herself in. Magic circles had a tendency to fail if not nearby its caster. While her Key to All could circumvent this, there was still too much risk. It was far easier and more safe to teleport the army inside and reorganize. But upon arriving Kan'na could have, and should have, teleported the Third Stage combatants outside of the Territory and handled them there.
An oversight due to her confidence after forming the Key to All. Something she was now eating regret for!
More words buzzed in her ear but she didn't bother to listen. Various spells deafened her as she released them. Yet as each subsequent spell failed, she did not lose any form of determination. Her foot slid into another stance, and a formation appeared at her feet. Originally when faced with something like this she would've utilized her War Sight to announce a new Law. However, the price for creating the Key to All was to keep a Law going with her War Sight. Without this Law in place it would take her several months to fix the Key to All.
No matter! She will find the answer!
Raising a palm she formed a magic concatenation and right before she was to fire it, and individual crashed down on the Lich. Kan'na lowered her hand, "Mira?"
"Hi Kan'na! Akiol sent me to assist!"
Immediately Kan'na understood. With a smile she pointed at the Lich, "Then break his bones to dust!"
"Okay!"
Raising his axe above his head Mira slammed down several times. Orothus' venom laced voice called from below, "Damn you! You think this is enough to end me?! The undead are forever rising!"
Mira continued to slam the Lich into the ground. Although Orothus was a clear counter to Kan'na, the weakness of a spellcaster remained! Orothus was not powerful enough to take someone on directly in hand to hand combat. Much less a monster of strength like Mira!
Harreth barreled through with his steed, lance swirling with mana to impale Mira. Yet chains manifested and pulled Harreth away. So instead he shrieked, using a taunting ability on Mira. Kan'na quickly countered by piercing Mira's cheek with a magic needle and ordered, "Ignore the taunts! I'll keep you focused on Orothus, so don't let him up!"
"Okay big sis Kan'na!"
Kan'na frowned at the words of big sis, but didn't find it unpleasing. Instead she formed several magic circles and moved towards Harreth, "I'm going to disassemble you piece by piece. Let's see you taunt then!"
