Kapitel 484: Fear Those At The Apex

"These guys give off a gross feeling."

Givale complained while aiming her bow of mana. Mira nodded in agreement while forming his blood axe, "But Akiol-Sensei said to get rid of them."

"Then let's do that."

The two Chimeras gained their bearings and charged towards Givale and Mira. Drawing her bow Givale released a few magic arrows to slow their movement. As a few made contact they exploded and erased the Heretic flesh. Scrunching her face Givale watched as they regenerated the damage almost instantly, "Not more regeneration!"

The minotaur-like Chimera broke the ground with each step as it charged towards Givale. Mira slid in the way and swung his axe. It attempted to block with one of its arms, but failed to comprehend Mira's sheer strength. His axe felt no resistance as it cleaved the Chimera in half.

The naga-like Chimera moved its snake body to wrap around Mira. Sucking in a mouthful of breath he pushed against the Chimera. The snake-like body quivered for a moment before exploding apart. Mira landed and tilted his head, "They're not strong?"

Givale drew back her bow, a massive arrow growing with every inch drawn, "But they're tenacious!"

Twom~

Deep purple magic shot towards the minotaur-like Chimera. It saw the arrow and dodged it, perhaps learning from the previous shots. Givale made a small smile, "You'll need more than that."

Space swirled and the arrow teleported to point towards the Chimera's back. Exploding upon contact it expanded into a large purple sphere. It remained as so for half a second before shrinking and disappearing. Givale began to draw another arrow, "One down!"

Mira questioned, "Eh? But what happened to their regeneration?"

"I don't have to worry about it if there's nothing to regenerate from!"

"Oh! That makes sense!"

Mira paused for a second, "But then. . . did I mess up?"

Due to him exploding the naga-like Chimera, various pieces of flesh remained scattered around the area. Givale eyed each piece and responded, "Doesn't matter, we just gotta keep doing it until they can't anymore!"

Suddenly, all the flesh pieces twitched. They moved like a boiling pot of water and expanded rapidly. Now Mira found himself being surrounded by several naga-like Chimera. Each gave off the same intimidating feeling. They all slithered towards him, Mira eyed them all one at a time, "Givale? What do we do?"

Givale felt her eyebrow twitch, "Round them up! We'll just finish this in one blow-"

The ground beneath Givale collapsed into a pit, several Naga-like Chimera appearing through gaps in the earth. Understanding what was happening she warned, "The blood counts too! Don't cause enough damage to make them bleed!"

Her bow of mana vanished as she dashed about. Dodging the strikes by the Chimeras she ordered, "We need to round them up!"

Mira found himself in a troubling situation. He couldn't harm the Chimera, else they would multiply, and he couldn't just let them roam freely. As for rounding them up. . .

Grabbing one of the tails of the Chimera he easily prevented it from moving. It struggled fruitlessly to free itself. Mira gently tugged it closer, and idea forming. Tossing one of the Chimera upwards he quickly ran to the others. They tried to harm him, but any damage they dealt was regenerated by Mira.

That was right! The biggest issue when dealing with a Chimera was their regeneration! The same strength as Mira! Except for Mira, he was superior! The regeneration of Heresy, while powerful, isn't nearly as strong as that of a suppressed Origin Hydra!

If anything, they were merely a failed copy of Mira's regeneration!

Givale spotted Mira's moves and followed suit. While her strength couldn't compare to Mira's, her advantages of being a Dragon was finally taking place. She remained at the top of Second Stage, something these Chimera's couldn't approach!

Kicking and bouncing off the Chimera Givale formed portals for them to fall through. To prevent any others from reaching the ground she created a massive spacial one-way barrier.

Heresy seeped into many things, but Space was both an existing thing, and something no one could comprehend. Holding no physical form Space was practically invulnerable the Heresy. Of course this small thing couldn't be taken advantage of most of the time due to no one being able to control it. Save for Givale.

The Chimera were gathered in an invisible box in the air. Mira tossed the final one into it and cheered on, "Do it!"

The amount of Chimera was large, and their total size was beyond the damage her strongest arrow was capable of erasing. Extending a hand she slowly formed a fist, crushing the Chimera into a smaller total size.

She frowned, it seems she couldn't quite crush them completely to a size she was capable of erasing. The reason for this she was unaware of, but not something she couldn't handle. Sheathing her daggers her form rapidly changed. A beautiful scaled Dragon took form and stared at the Chimeras.

A chilling authority overcame the forest. The feeling of a superior being was pushed onto all their existence. Opening her jaws a ball of purple magic formed and grew in size. Mira noticed this and quickly moved behind her. Patiently waiting he retracted his axe and placed his hands behind his back.

The ultimate move of all Dragons. Their breath attack. Channeling their magic directly from their heart through their body it is no exaggeration to call it their strongest move. Once it grew to a sufficient size Givale released the breath attack.

TWROOM~!

A thin purple beam launched forward, passing through the Chimeras and extending further beyond. From Givale's mouth it expanded and followed the line, growing in size as it traveled. By the time it reached the Chimeras the size was more than quadruple the box's size. The breath attack completely enveloped the Chimeras, and all sight to them was lost.

The beam of magic traveled into the air, traveling an unknown distance before slowly fading. Givale snapped her jaws shut and returned to her human form. Placing her fists on her hips triumphantly she declared, "They didn't stand a chance!"

Her statement rung true. For not a single trace of the Chimeras remained. They were completely, utterly, entirely erased from existence.

The offensive power of two of the apex races was not something easily matched. Even for the Party. Moreover under Akiol's guise, and Stars' previous wielder, these two became more than a threat to be reckoned.

They became a threat to be feared.

~ ~ ~

The party rushed towards the walled village. A battle already had taken the buildings. The distance they had to travel in the small time was impossible for them to properly cover. Even if using their mounts. Additionally with the Chimeras rushing towards the village they had to occasionally stop and deal with a few.

Reaching the wall Tilia was immediately on guard. Her instinct was urging her to run as far as possible.

Boom-!

Several polygonal tendrils of flesh shot towards each of the party members. Tilia reacted the fastest, several bronze semi-translucent kite shields appearing to block each of the tendrils. Before when dealing with a higher Stage attack her shields lasted a few seconds. Now, with her higher strength and Titles, she was able to withstand the tendrils without her shields breaking. Although not entirely.

The shields cracked and quivered, unlike their normal steadfast stance. Tilia also felt a weight form on her shoulders. The polygonal Chimera stepped forward unhindered, its head tilting at the tendrils being stopped.

Retracting the flesh tendrils its head split open to make a mouth, "Tough?"

Tilia's shields flickered and slowly vanished. Her shoulders slumped as if being dragged down. Kan'na spent no wasted time and fired off several magic circles. A faint light bounced off several mirror-like entities. It began to split and approached the Chimera at different angles. Once one of the lights touched the Chimera a faint bit of smoke formed. Once that happened the Chimera flickered and dodged the remaining lights. Its presence couldn't be detected by the Party, an credit to its Third Stage speed.

Guided by instinct and suspicion alone Tilia covered Kan'na with her War Sight. Not even a second later the Chimera appeared behind them and punched Kan'na. The already weakened War Sights cracked further and lost a lot of its luster.

Blood leaked through the cracks of Tilia's armor. She noticed her skin being cracked apart much like her War Sight. Kan'na remained unharmed thanks to her efforts however! Igneel launched himself towards the Chimera, the space around his fist wavering.

{Rending Heaven Fist}!

Space snapped back into place and the Chimera. . . didn't move. Igneel was thrown off by the lack of reaction, and was unable to process the sudden impaling of his chest. A tendril stabbing through his body. Nobody saw the movement, as if it wasn't even trying the first time.

Flicking Igneel aside the Chimera moved towards Tilia, "Tough."

Tilia's War Sight morphed into the Tower Shield out of instinct. Blocking the Chimera's blow she felt her skin crack apart and bleed profusely. Then her shield split further, and fell apart. Her body lurched as if rejecting itself, and her vision turned black.

Despite it all she still couldn't block attacks of a higher Stage.

In her last moments of consciousness she spotted a flash of Azure. . .

Wrock grit his teeth! He was too late! The effects of {Arising of the Phoenix} long since powered his body. Using an absurd amount of Spirit he flew across the forest and found his Party. Yet Igneel was being treated by Yielya, and Tilia was rendered unconscious. If only he was faster!

Slamming both feet into the Chimera he launched a powerful attack of Spirit. The Azure flames caused a massive scorch mark to form and burn past the trees. Pushing with all his might he jumped back with a flip and landed. Witnessing the damage he caused be regenerated he felt bittersweet.

He was going to need everything. Even at that point he would need even more.

His Title =Transcending Stages= activated and his strength reached new heights. Bouncing and performing a set of strange movements the space was tugged along his fingers.

{Arising of the Phoenix: Gifted Flame Waltz}!

Unlike the time against the Sword Saint, this time blue embers formed and began to gather around his fists. The feathers formed around his wrists, and the embers clung to his hands. The feathers spun and blended together slowly mending into his wrists. Patterns of the Phoenix and its parts rapidly formed up his arms. Sparing nothing Wrock planned to give it his everything from the start!

The polygonal Chimera watched this with a tilted head, as if absorbing the information, as if entranced by his movements. It didn't even realize Yielya transporting Tilia to safety, or Kan'na forming a massive magic circle.

Wrock took a breath and flickered forward. His fist already traveling towards the Chimera's head. His punch landed, and a blast of Azure flame appeared on the other end of its head. The Chimera's head was knocked back from the blow, and its face split apart slightly to form its mouth. It remained opened, but no words came out. Like it was stunned by the blow.

Delivering a liver blow Wrock began to release a flurry of powerful strikes. Each landed blow caused a burst of Azure flame to manifest on the opposite end of the Chimera's body.

Yet. . .

Each of his blows was rapidly regenerated. The Chimera instead just watched him, absorbing each hit like it was nothing.

Then Kan'na made her move! A massive magic circle spiraled into the sky strands of light fluttered downwards and wrapped themselves around Wrock's fist. Not questioning this Wrock decided to increase his tempo further!

{Spirit of the Phoenix: Wing Beat}!

Dududududu!

The Chimera stepped back, smoke appearing from Wrock's blows. Kan'na had utilized the effect of the World to gather strands of sunlight! Using the Moon as a catalyst she had attached the light to Wrock's fist, making him deal consistent damage that couldn't be regenerated!

Kan'na shouted, "We have several hours until sunlight! There's no way to last that long, so deal as much damage as possible!"

"Roger!"

Spirit ignited at his fists and the Azure flame gathered and condensed the light. Wrock closed the distance by sliding forward and throwing a heavy punch!

{Spirit of the Phoenix: Guiding Flame}!

The polygonal Chimera dodged the blow, "Dangerous."

Wham-!

Wrock spiraled upwards. A blow from the Chimera had knocked him off his feet. Although he was just barely able to predict its movements. He still managed to block the blow!

Being that he was still outmatched in terms of strength and speed, Wrock felt like this battle was entirely impossible!
