Kapitel 291: The Island and its Artifact

Akiol was sulking in a corner.

They had been attacked by various sea creatures every day of the trip.

It stopped being funny around the fourth time, and the crew began to grow concerned on the sixth time.

Wiglock merely laughed and said, "So the sea doesn't want us to continue! Tough luck!"

So the Vagor continued on her trail, braving the dangers of the sea.

Then, on the twelfth day a gigantic sea creature arose from the water. The water around the Vagor began to swirl and create a weak whirlpool. It wasn't strong enough to sink the ship, but it was able to stop its progression.

"Aim. . . ! Fire!"

Three explosions sounded as the large cannons on the ship fired. The shells were akin to modern artillery, and caused a lot of damage.

The creature groaned, yet seemed physically unharmed.

"It's a tough one! Load the high explosive rounds! We'll scare it off!"

As the crew bustled about Wiglock walked out of the Captain's quarters. He looked at the creature with an empty stare.

He sighed and shouted, "Aye lads! This one won't be affected by some shells. It's just broken into the Third Stage and wanted to test its power."

"Aye Captain!"

There was a large difference between Stages of monsters and humanoids. It was harder for monsters to reach higher Stages, but in return their strength was far greater.

Normally a Third Stage monster would cause the Vagor to be in some serious danger. However this particular monster was fresh from a breakthrough.

Meanwhile Wiglock was an experienced Third Stage himself.

Drawing a cutlass from his waist he jumped onto the boat's edge, "I'll scare em off lads, make sure the special cargo remains safe."

With a powerful leap strong enough to rock the gigantic boat he leapt forward. The water swirled and arose underneath him, forming an Orca made of pure water.

The orca splashed and began swimming around the sea creature. Wiglock standing on its back, riding it casually.

He yawned, "Disturbing my nap will cause some issues. I shall claim a fin, let it be retribution."

"Uwoooo~"

Lightning crackled across the waves of water. Wiglock rose an eyebrow, "If you wield such an element I'll claim more than just a fin. I'm sure you'll taste shockin'ly."

Lightning cracked and shot towards Wiglock. The Captain rose his off hand and a swirl of water appeared. The lightning stuck the water and dissipated.

"Aaah~?"

The sea creature was startled, its special lightning was just eaten?

Wiglock grinned cheekily, "Nah, I've decided. I'm in the mood for some fin soup."

The water thinned out into a disc shape and spun rapidly. Wiglock weighed the disc before nodding. He then threw it forward, the disc curved through the air and chopped off one of the sea creature's fins.

A woeful groan came from the creature before it quickly retreated into the waters. Wiglock rapidly moved forward and caught the falling fin. Inspecting it he anticipated its taste before returning the ship.

Landing on the deck he tossed the fin to a crewman, "Tell the chef to make me some soup. I'll be in me quarters."

"Yes Captain!"

The crew was not all that bothered by the situation, they trusted their Captain. His command was absolute and trustworthy. With their years of experience out on the sea they could confidently say they have never failed a trip.

. . .

On the fourteenth day of sailing the party received some news.

"The island is just ahead, please prepare whatever you need to."

They nodded, but there wasn't anything to prepare anyway.

Akiol leapt up the sails and greeted the one in the crow's nest. He had chatted with him for most of the days that passed.

The crewman greeted upon his arrival, "We're about an hour from our location."

"We've finally made it."

"Despite the quite chaotic trip."

". . ."

"It was a pleasure getting to know ya, I sure hope whatever it is you're doing here goes well."

"As do I."

"What are you doing exactly?"

"I don't know if I can say."

"Ah, I won't push then."

They sat in silence as they boat sailed across the water, and soon an island's shape formed in the distance.

The crew began working rapidly, preparing the Vagor for land.

After saying his farewells to the crow's next crewman Akiol jumped down to meet up with his Party.

Soon the ship slowed to a stop next to a dock. A wooden ramps extended and bridged above the water. The crew lifted various crates of unknown items and brought them to land.

Wiglock approached the Party, "You lot obeyed my rules, and as promised I have delivered you all safely. Now off mine ship, before I kick you off."

Wrock laughed, "We'll be off then, many thanks for the smooth ride!"

As their feet touched solid ground a figure messily dressed in a lab coat approached them, "You're his Excellency's chosen?"

Akiol nodded.

The figure nodded, "Good, I'm the lead researcher of the. . . Artifact. I'm supposed to debrief you on what's going to happen and all."

The figure seemed suddenly stunned, "My apologies, I'm Histor, you also are free to rest if you need to."

After a quick glance at his Party Akiol shook his head, "We're good."

Histor nodded, "Excellent, follow me."

They followed the researcher into the ruins they saw during the king's briefing. The stone seemed oddly pristine the further they went inwards. Almost as if it was recently created.

Along the white stone was the foreign language engraved in it. Kan'na waggled a finger and occasionally a magic circle flashed about. Wrock felt like the only one to notice this and he looked towards her with a questioning expression. In response she winked and kept walking forward.

They then approached the Artifact. It was the shape of half a pentagon. Lines of a strange black crystal was visible from the outside. These lines moved and spread across the room like wires. They were divided equally, connecting to four different points. The points were spherical objects stored in a goblet-shaped stone structure. The spheres were a faint blue and foggy.

Histor adjusted their coat, "This is the artifact, a brilliant creation by our ancestors."

Histor marveled at it, "It took us a long time to figure out it's used, and how to activate it. But now we have all the pieces!"

Akiol frowned, "Pieces?"

Histor pulled out a small triangle shaped black crystal from his pocket. A red glow barely visible from the middle, "These were scattered about the whole island. But they are the keys to activate it all. Four of them in total!"

Gesturing to some nearby researchers he then explained, "The problem is we have no idea if it's going to work. Or how long it will last."

Kan'na chortled, "Sounds troublesome."

Histor glared at her, but quickly hid his expression, "Indeed, thus we need you to prepare and be on guard."

Akiol rose an eyebrow, "On guard for what?"

"For when the Artifact activates of course!"

"So what do you want us to do?"

"Stand in front of the gate- oh, it's that main piece in the middle. When we activate it, a portal should appear. When it forms you are to jump in immediately. But only one by one, else you'll overload it and explode us all."

"Fireworks are quite the way to go out."

"I would much rather not!"

"So we are doing this now?"

"Whenever you are ready."

Akiol gained the silent consent of his Party before saying, "Better now than never."

"Well said! Positions everyone!"

Several researchers stood amongst the four points connected to the center portal. The Party stood at the center as instructed.

Histor spoke up, "All teams, insert on three. One. . . two. . . three!"

Whirring sounded the room. The blue spheres began to brighten and float. Arcs forming between them and their points.

The lines of black crystal began to turn blue, slowly traveling across towards the center.

Rumble~~

Histor looked upwards, "It's falling apart?! Everyone out! The Artifact is a failure!"

Akiol shouted, "But the Portal! It's forming!"

Histor was shocked as he adjusted his view. Indeed, the portal was slowly beginning to form.

Struggling to come to a decision Histor shouted, "Then you six enter! Remember! One! At! A! Time! Everyone else, out!"

Exchanging glances the Party began jumping through the portal. Akiol was the last one remaining when he saw the roof start to collapse.

He then jumped through, his vision becoming warped and fuzzy. His body felt like it was being folded several times.

Then, like being chewed up and spat out, Akiol suddenly was ejected onto solid ground.

He laughed faintly, "That was a rough ride."

As he stood he noticed a handful of things immediately.

First, he was in a forest with trees tall enough to touch the clouds.

Secondly there was no signs of life anywhere.

And thirdly, most importantly at that, his Party was nowhere to be found!

Opening the group chat he quickly communicated with everyone. It was then he realized.

Just like before, they were split up in a strange new world.
