Kapitel 232: The Start of the First Match - Yielya Takes the Lead!

Yielya let out an exasperated sigh, "I had a feeling!"

Wrock patted her shoulder, "Good luck! We will be counting on you in the first round."

Kan'na asked, "What made you choose her?"

Givale looked up innocently, "Did I choose wrong?"

"No no, everyone is fine with your choice. I just wanted to know your reason."

Givale pondered before responding, "I had a feeling, something is off with her. So I wanted to see what it is."

The party looked at Yielya with questioning gazes.

She held up her hands, "I'm innocent. Perhaps it's Ginale?"

Akiol froze, "That's where I thought I heard the name from! Givale holds a similar name to one of the Heroes!"

Jarvis asked, "You just realized?"

"It was at the tip of my tongue."

Givale interrupted, "This is only a nickname, my real name is far too long to say normally."

Akiol frowned, "That's the first time I am hearing of this."

"Didn't mom tell you?"

"No."

"Oh. My actual name is Giraneyousivale."

"Ah, Gi-vale. Got it. So you're similar to Kan'na then."

A questioning look appeared on Givale's face.

Kan'na sighed, "I was also given a long name, so Kan'na was a shortened version of it."

Givale looked surprised, "Then what is your actual name?"

Kan'na winked, "A secret for now."

Givale pouted, "No fair."

Akiol stifled a laugh, "It's alright, she isn't lying you know."

Once again Givale was puzzled, but Akiol did not explain further.

The party began to play a few rounds of cards. After some time has passed a voice boomed across the room.

"The sign-ins are closed! If you missed your chance, complain to the King or something! Those who have, your Matchup Cards shall inform you of your match time and place! If you are unsure where to go ask staff. There are no redos or retries!"

Akiol failed to see where the voice came from due to the massive amounts of people, but he heard them clearly.

The small rectangle buzzed and Kan'na inspected it, "Oh, we got half an hour before our match."

Akiol raised an eyebrow, "So soon?"

Kan'na looked somewhere in the distance, "It seems some people have theirs right now."

"What if they take longer than half an hour?"

"They only last that long."

"So could it end in a tie?"

"No, the winner is calculated by the total percent of HP remaining. A team's HP is added together, whichever team has the lowest percentage loses the match. If it is equal, none win the match."

"Sounds like a recipe of annoyance for some."

Kan'na shrugged, "Maybe, but I doubt many would abuse the tactics."

"You underestimate people."

"Then let us continue our card game, I bet ten thousand gold." Yielya spoke.

Wrock made a face and tossed his cards towards the middle, "Fold. Playing with Yielya is never fair."

Jarvis silently nodded in agreement.

Akiol chuckled, "It's not that bad, Call."

Kan'na tossed her cards, "Fold."

Tilia nodded, "Call."

Jarvis had long since folded, so he continued to remain silent.

Another card was laid and Yielya smiled in triumph, "Straight Flush."

Akiol made a face, "Never mind, it is bad."

Wrock nodded, "I lost well over a hundred grand!"

"That's because you bet too much." Yielya scolded.

They proceeded to playa few other games, mostly ones not luck based, for the next twenty minutes.

The Matchup Card buzzed, reminding them of the time. The party heard the buzz and looked at Kan'na.

"Well let's get moving. Matchup room 6-G."

The party moved, the Matchup room were divided into aisles. Numbered one through twenty-five. Each isle held ten matchup rooms, labeled A through J.

With such a straightforward setup it didn't take long for the party to find their designated room.

Once they entered they were surprisingly able to see their opponents. A standard lineup for a team of six greeted them upon entry.

A tall man covered in heavy armor stood up and offered a handshake, "So your our first opponents, let us have a fun match."

Akiol smiled and shook the man's hand, "Agreed."

Two long couches sat on the opposite ends of the room. Clearly sized for more than just six opponents. Once everyone sat a menu screen appeared in front of them.

<Ready?>

Everyone pressed ready, and the screens turned green. It quickly switched to a countdown timer, starting at thirty seconds.

Akiol noticed the opposite team calming their nerves. He assumed it was their first time facing players in such a huge competition. So with a smile he comforted, "Good luck!"

The heavily armored man nodded, "Likewise."

"Boss, are we really going to spectate some random team?" A female archer with flaming red hair asked.

A lightly armored male with aqua blue eyes and hair to match looked over. With a nod he answered, "Yeah, are you aware on who we are watching?"

"Some team that calls themselves Six Lights right? Sounds kind of arrogant."

"They have every right to be."

"Why do you admire them so much?"

"Do you think we could fight off an army of five hundred and survive?"

"Now? Definitely."

"No, at the early stages of the game."

The archer hesitated, "Survive right? Maybe a few of us could escape."

"Right? Yet they won. Out numbered, out matched, faced with hundreds of opponents. Yet they won."

"The Monthly Highlight. . . wasn't it scripted?"

"No, I was there."

The archer was shocked, "You were?! Why didn't you say anything?!"

"Who would admit they joined a team of five hundred and lost?!"

"I-"

"They must be doing something right, perhaps we could learn. It is important that we watch them carefully. They might even be our future opponents."

"Yes Boss."

"And stop calling me Boss!"

~ ~ ~

Their surroundings changed and the party found themselves in a forest-like area. The place was in a spherical shape, trees surroundings a barren hill.

Jarvis looked over to it, "So this map would be capture the hill then?"

Yielya nodded but also added, "Somewhat, while it's obvious that the hill provides the high ground. The low ground has plenty of cover, so it's a fight on who can take advantage of their surroundings the best."

Akiol looked over, "And you?"

Yielya sighed, "I will be taking the hill, it would be best to draw their attention and get this over with."

Akiol gestured with a thumbs up, "You got this!"

He then dispelled a stack of cards, pleasantly surprised that it worked. He held them up, "What game shall we play now?"

~ ~ ~

The group looked around, almost immediately someone spoke, "Look, a hill."

They turned towards the direction. Indeed, there was a hill. The heavily armored individual commanded, "Ricky, Nouva, circle over to the left. Uol and Cream, you take the right. Ywill, you're with me. There is a good chance that this map will give us an advantage if we take that hill. Be careful on your way."

They immediately carried out the orders, the two named Ricky and Nouva were a combo of Variant of the Thief class: Assassin and an Archer.

Ricky moved ahead, "I'll scout, keep an eye out."

Nouva nodded as she nocked an arrow.

The group consisting of Uol and Cream were a combo of a Priest and a Sorcerer. Cream twirled her staff and grinned, "I wonder what our opponents are like."

Uol sighed, "Please be careful."

"Of course!"

The remaining duo was Ywill, a Warrior, and Jinn the Berserker Variant: Subduer.

The three teams circled around the hill until they were at the west, east, and south points. Slowly they approached the hill.

While the hill was surrounded by trees and foliage, there was a spot untouched surrounding the hill. About three meters separated the hill from the trees.

Once the three teams entered this area they noticed a person standing at the top of the hill.

Immediately Nouva pointed her bow towards the person and let loose the arrow. It sailed cleanly towards the target, the aim spot on.

They noticed the arrow and moved slightly allowing it to sail past harmlessly.

Ywill brandished his sword, "They're mocking us! Leaving their Priest out in the open like this!"

Jinn snapped his fingers, "Focus! It could be a trap we are walking into! Approach cautiously! If we play our cards right we can eliminate their healer first."

It was a shame the other two teams did not hear this.

Cream launched a few spells towards the Priest, and Nouva shot a few more arrows herself.

Ricky turned invisible and approached carefully, aiming to finish off the Priest with a few well placed Critical Hits.

~ ~ ~

Yielya moved between the approaching spells and arrows. With the distance their trajectory was obvious. It was only a small matter to dodge them.

She noticed one of the enemies turn invisible. As she continued to dodge a part of her mind kept a check on her surroundings.

As another arrow sailed harmlessly past the player appeared behind her, a deadly looking dagger rapidly approaching her heart.

Tring~

Yielya appeared at the bottom of the hill, and the Archer was stunned to see their own teammate's dagger in their heart!
