"Crimson Immortals?"
The figure jumped down and landed lightly. They walked over with a smile on their face, "So you're the bunch that set me free. Truly I must thank you. . ."
Stars shouted, 'The Crimson Immortals are a bunch who broke the laws of the Cycle of Life! They cannot die, they are immune to poison and disease. Killing them is impossible! Because of this they are insane! If you're not someone worthy in their eyes, they'll kill you without hesitation!"
Akiol's hand twitched, this didn't sound good.
The figure sighed, "It's so embarrassing, to be saved by those still bound by the Life Cycle. Not even strong ones either."
Kan'na remarked, "You don't sound very grateful."
Akiol snapped, gathering the attention of the party. Upon noticing that he was on guard, the rest grew wary.
The figure shook their head, "You misunderstand! I have been trapped here for over a century. It's boring you know? Nothing but the same snow and rocks. Unable to escape. A barrier leeching your strength. It was a time of suffering. But I am now free!"
Akiol asked, "So what do you intend to do?"
"I should go back to my clan. . . Oh that's right. I failed to introduce myself. My name is Rygeth, member of the Crimson Immortals."
"So I assume that you will be returning to the Crimson Immortals?"
"Correct! However I must thank you all, after all you freed me. So I will grant you all to come with me as my servants."
Without hesitation Akiol answered, "We decline."
Rygeth's face froze, "You. . . decline? You are declining my well thought out gift?"
"The position of servant doesn't sound appealing you see."
"Not appealing? To serve a member of the Crimson Immortals is not appealing?"
"It really isn't."
Rygeth frowned, "I insist you come along."
"The offer shall forever be declined."
Rygeth made a face of disgust, "What good are you if you're not my servants?"
Akiol sensed a fight coming and dispelled his sword, "You can move on."
Rygeth closed his eyes in disappointment, "Everyone makes mistakes in their limited lives. It's a shame you chose this one to be your last."
The party all received the same notifications.
<Warning!!! Player has initiated combat with BOSS (Crimson Immortal: Rygeth). Due to Player's level being lower, it is recommended to flee.>
A information page was then introduced.
<<<Crimson Immortal: Rygeth (Level: ???)>>>
A Crimson Immortal who is weakened from a special barrier. However they still posses great strength. . .
A quest appeared alongside of it.
[Survive!!!]
You have incurred the wrath of Rygeth. A powerful foe many cannot defeat. Escape or survive the battle!
Objective: Survive
Difficulty: Impossible?
Time Limit: ???
Reward: ???
Failure: Character Deletion
The quest provided very little information. Yet one thing was made clear, they had to survive. While the threat of their characters being deleted wasn't that threatening. They sure wouldn't like their progress to be deleted.
The party leapt into action. Rygeth charged forward and threw out several punches. These were extremely fast, so fast that the party was unable to react.
Only Akiol was able to sense this, pure because of {Hyperfocused Battle Intensity}. He barely dodged the punch, a bit of slime was scraped off.
Kan'na was hit and sent back. Jarvis retreated before he was targeted and began flipping through his book. Tilia crashed into the ground. Yielya was sent flying into a rock from a kick.
Rygeth looked towards Akiol, "You dodged, impressive."
A yellow glow appeared around Akiol. His Agility was multiplied, increasing his speed. He then asked Stars quickly, "Why is he attacking over such a small thing?"
Stars sighed, 'The Crimson Immortals view anything that is not useful to them worthless. Regardless if it's a treasure, a place, or even life. Since you aren't going to be useful, then he shall rid of you.'
"People ignore hundreds of items worthless to them daily, so why destroy us?"
'I wouldn't know, perhaps it's because you denied an offer he thought was generous? These guys are mentally insane!'
Akiol clicked his tongue, Rygeth executed a spinning kick towards Akiol. This was dodged with difficulty, Akiol then gripped his sword and swung towards Rygeth.
Ding-
Rygeth blocked the blade with a finger, "You're quite the skilled warrior, to dodge even though you're so much weaker."
Akiol jumped back, he noticed Kan'na was waiting for an opportunity. So he created one.
Kan'na snapped her fingers, a giant magic circle formed above Rygeth. It was one mile in diameter, while slowly spinning several chains shot out of the circle.
It was the same spell Kan'na had used on Orothus! After getting hit once she realized how powerful Rygeth was. He was barely trying, yet her health reached critical. Akiol was forced to use his Berserk Skill, and the other party members suffered.
So she wanted to trap and seal him like before. The chains shot towards Rygeth. The Crimson Immortal moved quickly, shattering the chains with his limbs. Yet as he did they turned into smaller ones. The chains quickly surrounded him, overlapping several times.
Yielya used the newly gained time to heal the party. The damage this figure did was tremendous, they would need most of their HP to survive a single hit.
Boom-!
The chains shattered then faded. Rygeth had a face of annoyance as he freed himself, "You dare seal me again?!"
He took off, the ground cracking from the force. His target was Kan'na, the one who dared to attempt to seal him.
As his fist traveled he spotted movement from the corner of his eye. Akiol, glowing red, appeared. Rygeth lifted their other hand to block Akiol's sword, but the outcome surprised them.
The sword passed through easily. Rygeth stopped his attack and studied the sword, "That item, it's the reason."
Akiol's instincts were screaming at him, he wrenched his sword free and used [Leap] to distance himself. Rygeth's attention focused on Akiol's artifact. He walked towards it, "A shame, such a decent object. Yet it isn't at its true form. To be held by such a foolish creature."
Akiol switched his buff back to Agility. He sensed something was coming.
A drumbeat sounded, a gorilla pounded on his chest. Jarvis had summoned Donk, playing a song to improve speed.
Runes began to form across Akiol's body. These similarly were glowing yellow. Tilia had cast a buff that also increased speed. The party all realized that they were incapable of damaging this figure. They needed to escape, but that would need a plan.
Akiol would distract Rygeth for as long as possible. The moment the party found an opportunity, they would flee.
Rygeth vanished and reappeared behind Akiol, "I shall take it from your corpse then. It holds a little use to me."
Akiol forced his body to respond, he jerked sideways. Dodging a blow from Rygeth. The Immortal didn't mind however, instead he retracted his fist and threw a kick towards Akiol.
Akiol found himself unable to dodge this attack properly, it was simply too fast! Instead his body warped and split. The kick soared past his two halves, leaving him unharmed.
"Intriguing, you move like you were always human. As if you forgot about your slime abilities."
Akiol reformed and rolled back, his entire body was on edge. This individual brought out his survival instincts more than Vertigo.
His mindset was slowly changing, the idea of death was no longer character deletion. . . but true death! Akiol failed to notice this, instead he began to fight like his life was truly in danger.
Rygeth threw out casual strikes, yet each carried tremendous power. Akiol had to use every fiber of his being to dodge. Even with {Hyperfocused Battle Intensity} he required everything he had to dodge.
Rygeth wasn't annoyed at this, if anything he was ever so slightly impressed, "Your desire to live is strong. If only you joined us, you could have broken through the Life Cycle."
The party regathered and planned to escape, however as they caught Akiol's desperation. . . they hesitated.
Yielya gripped her staff, "He won't survive. Those buffs will run out."
Tilia's expression darkened, she began having flashbacks to the Undead Invasion, "He has to, he wouldn't fail again. He always pulled through."
Kan'na shook her head, "This is different, he holds no ability from our past lives. He doesn't have the ability too. He knows he cannot survive, so he is letting us go first."
"What about Wrock?! He could help!"
"Check the group chat, Wrock mentioned he would need another five minutes. That's fifteen in here. We won't survive that long."
Jarvis looked towards Donk, who was playing furiously, "The moment we flee he loses the buff gained from Donk. . . At that point he is as good as dead."
Kan'na grit her teeth, "Then what can we do? From the start our abilities have been suppressed! We aren't what we used to be, fighting until the end isn't the only option anymore."
Yielya looked to the sky. . . was their only choice leaving Akiol behind?
