Simon went into the kitchen, once again leaving Cale and Lysandra in the entryway. Lysandra led Cale into the next room and sat in one of the chairs. He sat down in the chair next to her.
"I'm sorry my family is so dysfunctional," Lysandra told him.
"Why would you apologize to me about that? I barely even have a family," Cale answered.
Lysandra covered her face with her hands. "Right. I'm sorry."
"Don't be. Anyway, your father's a brilliant man. And Ismene - that is, Ms. Carme - she is like the mother I never had."
"Excuse me for pointing it out, but I believe you had a mother."
"I did," Cale agreed. "I just don't remember her."
Neither of them spoke. Possibly Cale had regressed to thinking about his Erased memories, but Lysandra refused to do so. She tried to keep her thoughts moving ahead.
