Kapitel 26: ...In This Together?

"I never wanted this to happen." Emily thought to herself.

"I wanted- want to be with her. It shouldn't be a problem for me to tell her that I don't want to just be friends.

But... why do I feel like I actually do?" She sighed heavily before continuing.

"It would be better for us to be friends and nothing more. I need to think some things through and give myself time before I just leap into a relationship.

Where's my phone?"

Having made up her mind, Emily searched the living room for her cell phone. Once she found it, she pulled up her contacts and called Chloe. She was in her phone as, "Chloe <3". Seeing the heart emoji next to her name made Emily chuckle tearfully.

As the phone rang, she walked over to the island, pulled out one of the chairs, and sat down, pivoting the chair with one foot on the ground.

When Chloe picked up, she didn't speak.

"He-Hello?" Emily said shakily.

"Emily, Hi." Her voice sounded horse.

"I got your note. *Deep sigh* I think that...you're right. It would be better for us to just be friends." She tightly closed her eyes, waiting for Chloe's response.

"Okay. Okay, sure. Um...Well, would you like to go out tonight? To a club? As friends. You are 19 now, and we never really got to celebrate." She sounded disappointed.

"Do you think we could pass for 21?" She asked.

"Don't worry, I know a place we can go. Wear something sparkly; it'll help you blend into the crowd." Emily could tell that she was holding back tears, even from over the phone.

"Chloe-"

"See you tonight. I'll pick you up from your place." She cut her off, then hung up the phone.

"See you tonight." Emily said to herself quietly.

She placed her phone on the island, walked over to the door, and slipped on a pair of sandals. Then, Emily made her way down to the first floor of the apartment building to collect her mail.

As soon as she got it, she walked back up to her apartment, and went through the envelopes.

She found one from her grandmother, and assumed it was a birthday card. She tore the top of the envelope open and pulled out the excessively glittered card that read "19" in a large, elegant font. She opened the card and read the sweet message from her grandmother. As she went to throw away the envelope, Emily saw a small white envelope tucked behind the opening of the larger envelope. She pulled it out and shook all of the glitter off of it and into the trash. When she opened it, she saw four fifty dollar bills.

"Holy shit." She said under her breath as she chuckled.

After going through the rest of her mail, Emily watched a couple episodes of Criminal Minds, took a shower, made herself lunch, then dozed off until it was the evening.

A loud alarm woke her up from her nap, and came equipped with a message that Emily had written earlier, informing herself that it was time to get ready.

She made her bed and walked over to her closet to pick out something "sparkly" as Chloe had told her to do. Emily sifted through her closet until she found an iridescent, white, tube dress that was she had never worn. She bought it the day that she and Chloe went to the mall a few weeks ago. She figured that this was the perfect opportunity to wear the reflective dress. She paired it with some white converse above ankle sneakers, and a clear, loose, jacket. The sleeves were extremely loose around her elbows, and scrunched up at her wrists. The bottom of the jacket only came up to her belly button, and there was no hood on the jacket. When it met the light, it(along with the dress) shone very brightly. She threw on some sparkly earrings, bracelets, and necklaces accompanied by a white choker. She snagged a small, black, sequin purse that hung from a silver chain on her way out the door after doing her hair and makeup.

She pulled out her phone to text Chloe that she was ready, but she had already received a message from her stating that she was there. At the sight of this text, Emily sped up, and hurried out of the apartment building. She saw Chloe's car parked outside, and saw Chloe sitting in the front seat fixing her lipstick in the mirror.

She walked over to the passenger side of the car, and leaned in the open window.

"Hey there." Emily said with a smile.

Chloe jumped slightly, but not enough to smudge her lipstick. "Hey. You ready?" She replied with a smile as she folded up the mirror in the sun visor, and folded it back onto the car celling. She then reached over and opened the door for Emily to sit inside the car.

Emily tried to look at what Chloe was wearing to see if she was dressed appropriately, but it was too dark for her to tell.

"Lets do this." Chloe smiled and high fived Emily and started up the car. It took the girls about 20 minutes to reach their destination. When they got there, Chloe got out of the car, walked around to Emily's side, and opened her door for her.

"Ah, thanks." Emily said as she exited the car.

"Here's my guy." Chloe whispered to Emily. The walked past the crowd of people waiting to get into the club, and right up to the bouncer. He wasn't extremely tall or muscular, in fact he appeared really average.

"Hey, Jimmy. How are you doing?" She walked up to the bouncer and hugged him. He smiled and seemed genuinely happy to see her.

"Did-didn't think I Woul-would see you her-here again." He said with a smile.

"Well, here I am." She grinned brightly. It was the same smile that had enchanted Emily. "see you around, bud." She smiled and hooked her arm around Emily's, guiding her into the club.

It was gorgeous inside. The whole room was a dark gray color, and there were beams every so many feet apart on the tall ceiling, each wrapped with faux green vines. Between the beams, there were countless different colored strands of fairy lights dangling down up to four feet. There was a colorful dancefloor that took up most of the space in the club, while a bar and scattered bar height tables took up the rest of the space.

"Let me guess, you know that guy from therapy?!" Emily shouted over the music that was playing in the club.

"Yep! Let's get some drinks!" Chloe guided Emily over to the bar where they both ordered several drinks and took bunches of shots over the course of the night.

After the girls were there for about two hours, Chloe, who was obviously drunk, brought Emily, who was also obviously drunk, over to a bar height table. She was laughing since she had been dancing, and suddenly slowed her chuckles into silence. She gently stroked Emily's hair that was messy from jumping around, out of her face. When she tucked it behind Emily's ear, she traced her jawline, brought herself around the table so that she was beside Emily, and planted a kiss on her lips.

"Mmm!" Emily pushed Chloe away, and without thinking, struck her in the nose with her fist.
