"Okay! Well I'll be on my way, I'm going to start planning everything then." Lady Syria said as she got up and straightened out her clothes. Calder reached out to grab her again but pulled his hand back the last second. He wanted her to spend the night but seeing her so excited made him swallow back the request. "Oh... Maybe not." Lady Syria said in a sad tone as she looked at Calder's face.
"We weren't holding hands, are you feeling better should I call Doctor Landis and see what he says? I-I-I, I might h-have to s-s-spend the n-night." She continued as her body trembled. Calder sighed then grabbed her hand. "I will be fine. There is no need, I was perfectly fine as you slept. So please go back to your room and have a pleasant night." Calder said in a gentle tone as he softly patted the back of her hand.
Lady Syria's eyes grew wide as she stared at his face. "Y.... eet." She mumbled. Calder tilted his head as he stared back. "Sorry?' He asked. Lady Syria quickly pulled back her hand and rushed to the door. "I will see you tomorrow!" She shouted before she run out and slammed the door.
"Was my face that scary?" Calder asked himself as he raised his hands and massaged his face. "Can I come in?" Rutley called out as he knocked on the door. "Yes." Calder replied as he looked at the door, still completely dazed. "What the hell?! Cough, I mean, Calder did, Uhm something good happen to you?" Rutley asked as he looked over Calder awkwardly.
"I don't know... Apparently I'm a nice guy but I did a very trashy thing to Syria yesterday. How can I be a nice guy?" Calder asked as he dropped his hands from his face and looked at Rutley pathetically.
"Did you suddenly propose to the Lady? You were very protective of her while she slept. I honestly thought you were going to kill me if I made a single sound." Rutley said as he approached Calder. "No I didn't and maybe I would have? I'm not really sure. I don't think I've every felt this way before." Calder said with a small smile.
Rutley's face immediately distorted with disgust. "I don't know... she has so many rumours about her... It seems she's not a very good person." Rutley replied. "Rumours are nothing but empty words." Calder said as he glared at Rutley. "There is a saying there's no smoke unless there's a fire." Rutley said as he presented a stack of papers to Calder. "No it's where's there smoke there's fire." Calder said as he looked at the documents. He smiled as he started to skim.
"I'm just saying that there might be some truth to what they say about her. Especially with that poor girl, Gwendolyn I believe her name was." Rutley sighed. "Rutley I didn't think you were one to jump to conclusions." Calder said coldly.
"I'm just saying a rumour is something that you should not take lightly. Truth can be hidden in plain sight." Rutley said. "You mean how there may be truth about us being a couple?" Calder rebutted as he flipped the page. Rutley instantly paled. "I see your point... but I think you should put more effort in spending time with Lady Britille. At least she doesn't do some back end deals." Rutley snorted.
Calder flinched. He really couldn't figure out why he didn't like her other then his past scars. He thought deeply then sighed. It wasn't fair for him to just favour Syria but his heart already decided to be with her and only her. "I will feel like I am two timing Syria though..." Calder said sadly as he brought his gaze up to Rutley.
Rutley covered his mouth and averted his gaze. "You're facial expressions are getting better." Rutley muttered. "Sorry?" Calder asked as he tilted his head. Rutley glanced back and turned beet red. "Stop! Please just look at your work!" Rutley shouted. "I'm sorry!" Calder shouted back in a fluster and brought his gaze to the documents.
"I can see why his Majesty wants to monopolize you" Rutley said with a deep sigh. Calder was about to look at Rutley again but he could feel Rutley's glare as he tried to move. He flinched and awkwardly started to move his gaze back to his documents. "I don't understand." Calder said.
"Calder, when we met you were so cold and standoffish that it was hard for me to get close to you." Rutley explained. "I don't remember." Calder said softly. "And you shouldn't, not yet at least. You're too weak right now. We don't want you to relapse unless you want to see worried faces around you again." Rutley said.
"No I don't." Calder replied as his face became grief stricken. "Don't be like that.... it seems like Lady Syria has some sort of calming affect on you. If you're with her I think you can try to recall some of your memories but if you go too deep I will have to pull you back... you and I both know that it's not the best for your body to be pulled back like before." Rutley said as he nodded towards Calder's chest.
Calder looked down and wondered. "How did it heal so fast?" Calder asked. "We don't know. By the time you were brought to Landis you had already stopped bleeding and it was already healing. Landis has an idea and is looking into it." Rutley replied. Calder nodded his head as he continued to skim the documents. "Alright I have made my selections." Calder announced and Rutley handed him a pen.
"Thanks." Calder said happily and started to mark up the documents. Rutley peeked over and his face turned dark. "Ugh! Calder is that very appropriate?" Rutley asked. "Trust me she will love it!" Calder said as he flashed Rutley a bright smile. Rutley quickly turned his head and cursed. "G-get something a little more expensive too! You can just give her so much thread!" Rutley shouted awkwardly.
