Why am I nervous, yes we're meeting the King but I shouldn't care about how I look. I shouldn't be trying to impress him, he attempted to do horrible things to me. Besides I'm just a widow, who asks for her dead husbands lands that were taken from her.
I wore a blue lace dress, with a vail over my head. My hair tied up, into knots entangled. We waited under oak tree just like we said we would. We are here to wish the king the best of luck in battle, give him some money to support him, and show him our loyalty. We wore white roses especially to prove we were no longer Lancastrians.
"Mother what were to happen if Edward loses?"
"Then we shall act like this never happened, no one will ever know about our exchange with the king and we will continue to live our lives." Mother was wise, that's why she chose to meet in secret. For if Edward were to loose no one would ever know we showed him Loyalty.
As the horses arrived we greeted the King, I stayed silent to avoid any contact with the king. Of course the Earl Of Warwick was first to comment, being Edward's cousin he had immunity. "White roses, if you peel off the paint will we find a red rose?"
"Not at all my lord." My mother is careful with her words, but 'my lord' come on.
"Where do I have the pleasure of meeting the rivers."
"Oh please the pleasure is all ours. We cam here to wish you the best luck in battle, we brought you some money to help support you and show you our loyalty."
"Oh please I'm sure your not gonna take their money Edward, they're Lancastrians."
"Thank you Mrs Rivers, your loyalty will not be ignored." But as the king got off his horse he went to grab the coins put it in his patch. I was expecting him to get back on his horse, but instead he starting walking in my direction. My sister who was next to me walked away to give us privacy.
I looked up and saw the most gorgeous pair of eyes staring up at me.
"I can not stop thinking about you, no matter how hard I try I cannot get you out of my mind. No girl has ever drove me as mad as you have." His words were making my heart start to dance.
"Will you marry me?" Edward and Me getting married? I never would think the king would be interested in a girl like me. I do believe that I am beautiful, but I am not up to his standards. What will the people think.
But who cares it's my happiness that matters. And I know that everytime I am away from this man I feel sad, and I do not feel the same as I do when I am with him.
"Yes" I whispered as my mother and father argued with the Earl Of Warwick. Me and Edward were meant to get married. The smile on my face told me he had not expected me to say yes. He came here not knowing he was gonna win at the battle he just faced, but he did. He is indeed lucky in love, as he captured my heart in the span of a couple of days.
"Yes Edward I will marry you." My mother looked over and saw the smiles that were being exchanged between me and Edward. I cannot I am going to Marry the king of England.
No one would've guessed what me and Edward were talking about, as we managed to whisper our excitement.
"I shall lie to you, I did not expect Lady Elizabeth Gray to say yes."
"And I did not expect you to propose to me King Edward lV, so I guess we're equal as we were both surprised."
'I simply could not wait to share this news with my mother. Knowing she was the only person I could tell, my father and Brothers would not accept it.'
As Edward walked away back to his horse, he climbed on very slowly not wanting to leave. But when he did get on he gave me one last smile before he rode away with his men.
My mother looked at me as if asking "What happened?"
I responded with a smile. It was all I could say, I was getting married to the king. This type of happiness is not something I can express with words.
Love... only a mystery...
