It was two weeks later when Samantha went to the St Clare hospital for her usual routine check up with her gynaecologist, Dr Mindy who also happened to be a reproductive endocrinologist.
Her appointment was at 3:30 P.m but when she got there doctor Mindy, had temporarily stepped out of the office and had left some patients with regular check - ups and one artificial insemination to her junior, Dr Caroline, a reproductive endocrinologist.
She was in the waiting room, when a young woman who had an appointment with Dr Mindy at 4 P.m. came to her.
"Excuse me, my name is heather Miller, I currently have an appointment with Dr Mindy at 4 P.m but I have a flight at that same time and I wanted to see her and do my procedure before I leave. Am asking if I can...."
" No, problem." Samantha cut her short."You can go when it's my turn."she said smiling at the woman.
" Thank you" heather smiled at Samantha.
Heather at first had thought Samantha was a little stuck up, not looking at her when she was speaking to her but when she realised, Samantha was actually blind, she felt sorry for her and thought twice about taking the blind woman's appointment but she was busy, so she took Samantha's place on the waiting room sofa.
" Miss Samantha Wilton, the doctor will see you now."
"Samantha gestured for Heather to go and Heather thanked Samantha and left."
She was out thirty minutes later, thanking Samantha again, she hurriedly left."
When everything for Heather Miller's artificial insemination was ready, Heather Miller was called.Dr Caroline had not met Heather before but knew Dr Nigel Miller and he had just booked the procedure with the doctor at the last minute.
Lisa helped Samantha to the nurse who was calling names and went back to sit.
Samantha had had a pap smear many a time and didn't say anything when she slept on the bed after changing into a hospital gown.
After the doctor told her that Dr Mindy was unavailable that day, and her, Dr Caroline was going to perform the procedure.
She nodded and said nothing.
An ovulation kit was used to determine whether, she was ovulating or not. Dr Nigel Miller had provided his sperm one hour thirty minutes ago and had gone back to his department for a sympathectomy procedure on a patient with hyperhidrosis (sever sweating). it was already 'washed' in the laboratory and ready for the insertion.
" I trust, you are familiar with the procedure, It won't take long and there is no pain."
" yes...I know" Samantha answered her.
When the doctor found out Samantha was ovulating, with her knees raised for the supposedly pap smear. The Doctor went ahead and slide in a thin, flexible tube through her cervix into her uterus. Using a small syringe, she inserted the sperm through the tube directly into her uterus.
She was told to lay on the bed for ten minutes, which she found unusual but attributed it to the difference in some doctoring methods.
She did not want to ask why and offend the doctor in the process, ten minutes wasn't much.
She later changed into her clothes and walked with Lisa to her car that Marcus was driving.
She had minor cramping but didn't think much to it. Cramping was a normal occurance after the artificial insemination procedure but who would tell Samantha that?
