Kapitel 23: A Silver Spell

~•Amara•~

I took my hand back the very instant I felt a current running up my palm which was coming from the black backpack. Drawing my eyebrows together, I placed my palm back on the surface of the bag to check whether or not it was me who was going crazy here. Well, I actually hoped for it to be the later. It would have been much better if that was the case than my other doubt coming true.

Just like before, the moment my flat palm made a contact with the rough textured fabric, I felt the same feeling of something creeping over my palm, followed by a numbing sensation which barely lasted for a few seconds. I withdrew my palm and brought it closer to my face to examine it.

As my eyes landed on the bright red surface of my palm, all of the white fluffy balls of condensed water vapours, began to disperse, only to allow my eyes to glare at the burning ball of truth shining up in the sky.

"F@*#!" I cursed out loud which only earned me a couple of astonished stares from the team members sitting around me, and the couch who was standing right across me. Giving the couch an apologetic look, I shifted my attention back to my palm.

'This cannot be true!'

I kept repeating the same line again and again in my mind with the hope that it might come true. But to my dismay, it didn't. The red palm I was holding before my face, was like a slap to my face. It wasn't some allergic reaction to the fabric of the bag, but rather one from magic, magic which was born of light. And to my misfortune, the bag was protected with a silver spell which could only be used by an angel.

How could I make such a huge blunder while trying to socialize with humans. How could I let the fact escape from my mind, the fact that just like some creatures of dark were left stranded on this Earth, some creatures of light had to face the same fate.

Demons and angels have been walking on this Earth since the beginning of the time. They are not only a part of myths and stories, but they actually exist. They have been living among humans for centuries, co-existing in harmony which can easily be shattered.

"I am so sorry." I shifted my attention in the direction I saw him going in earlier, and muttered an apology under my breath. It was the first time I was going against my words, it was the first time I was backing away from a promise. But it needed to be done. I could not have myself mingling with his kind.

With one more look at his backpack, I walked away from the stands with my head hanging low. Darkness and light were not supposed to coexist. That was the law of nature. And just like it, demons and angels were not supposed to mingle. Especially if it was hanging out for a football game.

With a hazy mind, I walked away from the field and headed towards my favorite place here, the cliff hidden deep in the forest. I wanted to put as much distance as I could between him and me.

Getting to my favorite spot, I crisscrossed my legs under me and settled by the edge of the cliff. Gazing into the distance, I tried to clear off my mind a little. But nothing seemed to work for me as my thoughts continued to become a jumble. The more I thought about the new finding, the more confused I became.

An angel and demon, studying at the same college and even sharing the same class room. I knew someone who would have definitely found this hilarious and laughed it off. That someone was no one else but my godfather, the Devil. He was someone who found situations like this funny and entertaining. So, in no way he would call me back to his current hometown even if I ask Squeaky to convey the message. He would instead force me to finish my year here.

"Damn it!" I cursed my own fate for the trouble which I might have to face in the following days. The first human, or the person I thought was a human, I got along with a little well turned out to be an angel. The very being I was supposed to run away from.

Life sure is unpredictable. The way one moment it gives you everything you have been craving for since the beginning, and then snatches it away the very moment your fingers brushes against it, is like an uncrackable code, or like the mystery to which no one seems to know the answer.

But more than life, what troubled me more then was how bad I was feeling. All because I stood him up and went back on my words. Stood up would not be the right word to use in the same sentence as him, but that was not the main problem.

How was I supposed to face the guy later on today, or tomorrow, or the day after tomorrow? He must be wondering by now as to where I had run out without even giving him a heads up. Or worse, that I was out of those attention seeking women, and it was one of my 'pay more attention to me' stunts.

I really wasn't worried about if he might end up thinking of me as some bad person. I was not even good to begin with. The more bothersome matter was how would I face him? I would handle him without disclosing my identity. Nothing good could come with an angel clashing with a demon.

"Thanks a bunch, Popsy." I yelled to no one in particular. If only Squeaky was there with me. I could have at least bad-mouthed the Devil and blamed all of this on him. He was the one who sent me here. He was the reason behind this encounter.

"Best of luck, Amara." Muttering under my breath, I wished myself some luck because I knew that I would be needing it the next day.
