Kapitel 8: Lust
What is magic and where does it come from? Essentially, magical energy is matter which originates from a separate dimension known as the Immaterium (in-canon, this is the Dimensional Gap, which also explains why people can't survive in it since it's pure magical energy). The energy itself is generated by the collective thoughts and feelings of the mortal races which echo in this realm. It's also the place where the souls of supernatural beings return after death.
Long ago, rifts opened in all the realms suffusing the environment with magical particles, thus allowing the first living beings to utilize this energy and thus call it magic. But the approach each culture or race takes to using this energy created their unique brand of magic.
The earlier civilizations were the ones who held the most control over this element, and thus their types of magic was the purest (as in, it doesn't require an external medium like formulas in order to facilitate).
For examples of the first factions which used magic, we have the Egyptians with their use of pictograms and rituals to create magic. The Greeks and Romans were very similar in style. The Norse and Celtic factions place great importance on nature rituals and the use of runes to control magic. A large aspect of their magic type, is the prediction of fate, since fate plays an immovable hand in all things.
The angels of God's faction have their level of magic power directly proportional to the faith and conviction they hold - the more they have, the stronger their emotions reflect in the Immaterium and thus the stronger their magic. The same logic applies to the devils of the Underworld, but instead they rely on strong emotions like wrath, lust and greed to fuel their magic, using their minds to shape the particles to their will. We should also note that these supernatural races are technically made of magic themselves, since their power (especially that of the gods) is dependent on the belief and worship of mortals. The less of that they have, the weaker they grow in time until they fade. This belief is also what grants all the supernatural races their immortality.
Finally we come to 'modern' magic, which is humanity's own attempt to bend the immaterial element to their will (humans are usually very weakly attuned to magic compared to the other races). Normally, humans can't handle magic entering or interacting with their bodies due to their close ties with the material (physical) realm, but there are certain unique humans who have the gift of being compatible with magic. However, they still don't have the physical strength and mental capacity to create magic on their own, so they had to develop methods to avoid those limitations. These men became known as magicians.
Human magic was first developed during the Middle Ages with the advent of alchemy, after which it became a more scientific field over the next centuries. Formulaic magic is the largest branch - the way it works is that the magician uses the magical energy to create a metaphysical formula which alters the laws of physics that affect objects in the material realm. These formulas can be done mentally, but it's really hard and so you see most magicians create magic circles instead.
Another thing to be noted is that magicians, unlike the supernatural races can't handle a lot of magic in their bodies, so they draw it from the atmosphere and separate vessels instead. Things like wands, staffs, crystals or even magical weapons are common because they're essentially a reservoir of magic energy. They use these instead of drawing directly from the Immaterium, because direct exposure could cause severe mental trauma and horrible bodily mutation, since magic is very volatile in nature and warps any physical object it touches.
Now you might be wondering what the differences are. Well, 'modern' magic using formulas is weaker than the purer, more ancient magic used by gods, angels and devils, but it's a lot more stable, and also not as limiting, since with formulas you can affect the world in so many different ways, which makes human magicians very versatile opponents.
With formulaic magic being popular on earth, the devils adapted their own magic to also use magic circles which acts as a stabilizer for their powers, to prevent their magic from potentially going out of control and killing the wielder. At the same time, it gives them focus, so they can better shape their magic for the situation.

I close the magic history book and drink the rest of my cold water. It's already 00:23 AM in underworld.
I can feel there's someone approach me from behind, and I know who is she even though I don't see her.
Wait.. how can I know who is she when I don't see her?

It seems my queen a bit startle when I did one of the legendary moves in romance anime- princess carry. I can see her face turned red a little. Well, at least she's not resisted my action before.
Then I use teleport magic to my bedroom while I still carrying her in my hand. Magic sure can make life more easier.
In an instant we already arrive in my bedroom.
Ahh.. I really like this world magic. It's unfortunate my old world didn't have magic system like this world.
Or maybe there was something like magic in my old world, but because of I was just ordinary human at that time, so I didn't know anything about supernatural being in my old world.
Whatever.. we can save about it later.
I put down my queen on my bed.
I already used my pajama when I read magic book before.
Luna hold my left hand and pull my body toward her. Actually her strength doesn't enough to make me fall, but I let my body fall toward her because I want to know what she want to do.
I hold my body on the bed with my right hand. Our faces are only 20 cm away. And then Luna rotate our position and sit on my thigh.
