Chapter 6 Town of Llyne
About ten minutes walk, I finally arrived in front of the Llyne Town's entrance. I entered the line of people who were waiting in line to enter the city.
On my right is a line of merchant wagons who have their own queues with larger entrances.
While waiting in line I also saw a number of horse carriages that entered the city without having to queue.
"It's all very easy if you have position and titles, eithis here or in the old world."
As I watched my surroundings endlessly, someone behind me then spoke to me.
"Hey, is this your first time here?" A man in his 20s asked me.
"How do you know?" I asked.
"That's because you don't stop looking around as if all of this is new to you." The young man answered
"Where do you come from? Are you here to work? I heard there is a lot of work available right now." He asked again.
Hearing young man's question, I guessed it was a general question that would be asked by people, even by the gatekeepers later. Therefore I answer it with the answer that I have prepared before regarding my origin and profession.
"I'm not from here, I'm a merchant who will start a new career in this city." I answered his question.
"You almost look nothing like a merchant, you look like someone who has just grown up and left the village to work in the city. Usually a merchant will use at least small carts with horse, you only use ordinary leather bag. The only thing that makes you different from ordinary people is that your clothes look expensive." The young man commented long.
I respond only by smiling.
"By the way, my name is Argi, maybe I'll be your customer later when you start your business." The young man reached out his hand and introduced himself.
"My name is Nine." I shook his hand and introduced myself.
After almost half an hour waiting in line, finally my turn arrived. I entered into a room beside the entrance and there were several guards inside.
Then a guard told me to sit in front of him. From his appearance, it looks like this guard has a higher position than the othis guards in this room.
"I've never seen you before, did you come from village to work? This is your first time coming to this city.? "The guard asked me.
"This is my first time in this city, I'm a merchant." I replied
"Your appearance does not look like you are a trader, what goods will you sell as merchants?" He asked again.
Then I showed my leather bag to the guard.
"Oooh, spices. You have expensive items to sell, but only a few. " He said when he saw the contents of my bag
"This is just the sample that I brought for now, I have to find a buyer first before I send my caravan here." (Nine)
"Looks like you have a large commodity, where are they now?" (Guard)
"It's still on ship in Port Town." I gave an answer that had been made before.
"If you want to enter the city for the first time you have to make a residence permit first here, it costs 100 silver coins."
"Alright, please make me a residence permit." Then i gave him a gold coin.
"What is your name? Where are you from? " He asked.
"My name is Nine, I come from the islands in the south across the ocean." I gave an answer.
Based on the map that I saw before, in the south of this continent there is an island nation that almost 1 year away sailing across the ocean. Very far.
There is the closest place to the continent to get spices, but because of the small land area, not much spices produced, this is what makes spices an expensive item, coupled with its great distance.
"Turns out you're not from here, your Celestrian language is very good for someone from the south."
"I learned it from other traders while I was there." I replied
Of course that's not true, because of the general information that I got from Jellyfish, I can use all the languages that exist in this world. This ability really helped me a lot, I don't need to worry wherever I am. Coupled with the identity that I use as a merchant, it's not strange if a merchant speaks several different languages.
After I answered all the questions from the guards, I then received a change of 100 silver coins and a parchment containing my name and profession and proof of residence permit.
"Because you are not from here, this permit is only valid for one month. You have to renew it at the city hall if you want to stay more than one month. You can only become a permanent resident if you've lived for one year in this kingdom. " He explained.
"Alright, thank you very much."
Before I left the room, I remembered that there was an important thing I had to ask.
"Excuse me, is there a Merchants Guild in this city?" I asked the guard before.
"You just need to walk straight to the square and then walk to the right, you will find a blue building there. That's the Merchants Guild. " He answered.
"Thank you once again."
After that I walked into the city. I looked around me and gathered information.
'It seems like the residents of this city are quite happy, seen from their expressions. Many traders are also going in and out of this city. '
This city seemed to be quite large from the map that I saw. In the north it seemed like a residential area of the nobles, while ordinary residents in the south, commercial areas mainly in areas along the main road.
Along the way I looked at what items are sold here.
'Looks like there is no specialty shop that sells spices, most shops and stalls here sell daily necessities like food and clothing. There are also restaurants, bakeries, inns, blacksmiths and the like. '
'It seems I will open the first spice shop in this city, I can already imagine the money I will have. This is my initial foundation in this world. '
I continued my journey to the square which was seen before me and then to the merchants guild.
