Kapitel 24: Dinner

I put the corn on the grill and filled the chicken. My mom came out of the bathroom and went into her room. I got our glasses and put water in them and put them on the table.

"I'm going to shower tonight, you can do the same as well if you would like but it's up to you."

"Okay, I might."

"It'll be easier if you do it tonight since my uncle and his friend will be coming tomorrow and won't be leaving until Wednesday, it's just a little less hectic right now."

"Okay" hunter said then came over and put his arms around me. "How about we take a shower together than once it get hectic, after all we'd be using less water then." He said quietly, he was smiling at me. I smiled back and bit my lip.

"I'll think about it." I said back.

I kissed him and then quickly moved out of his arms and went to the table and sat down. I caught him off guard and was able to break free from his arms easily because of it. He walked over very calmly and he clearly wanted to do or say something but then my mom came out of her room.

"I'm going to finish up dinner, thank you for starting it and for setting the table. Hunter I don't know what your used to when you go home but I hope today wasn't to boring for you."

"No problem mom."

"It wasn't boring at all ma'am, I normally am stuck in the house by myself when I'm home. I have Megs to keep me company and it was a great time to learn some more about how Megs grew up and what she used to do, because she never really talks about it."

"Well I'm happy we have bore you to death yet." My mom said as she smiled. "Dinner is ready." My mom took the corn and chicken off the grill and put them onto a plate and brought them over to the table. It really wasn't much good because we couldn't afford much and it wasn't extravagant but mom and I had always made good food. We were both good with seasoning and spices to make things more flavorful, but the spicer foods made me sick. They had always done that since as long as I can remember, I would always throw up after eating anything spicy. My mom thought I would grow out of it and always told me when I was little the more I ate it the more adjusted to it I would become, but as I got older it still had the same effect so we no longer have very many spices and the ones we have our very mild so I won't get sick.

We all were sitting around the table eating. We were quiet I knew my mother had things on her mind, as she was trying to figure things about Hunter out. I could tell by the way she looked at him and I could see the gears turning in her head, in all honesty I could understand why. He was a stranger she had never heard of before who bought her daughter a train ticket and came to stay in her house for break and she came home to us on the futon which was about to where one of us slept, but we would both be in main room. A stranger sleeping near her and her daughter and all she knew is he is a higher tier than us but she didn't even know what tier he is. I mean personally when I have a kid that won't slide, I'm not even considered an adult and am not legally able to work yet. The legal age is 18, just because I'm a freshman doesn't mean anything right now because I'm not considered an adult and the government won't consider me one until I'm 22. Being a guest younger than everyone in my grade really sucks, everyone else will be adults and able to drink and do whatever they want by the time they graduate and I will just be able to drink and I'm limited on what I can even have since only certain mix drinks are aloud until your 22 and you have a limited number you are aloud to have a month. It's honestly sucks, but after you graduate you get sent right into the work force for the most part.

Next semester I'm going to get tested to see where I fit into society and where I will work and how my courses will change. They also are going to score me as they will be required to have a score on file. I'm curious about it but I don't want to know because it might change everything. I had to distract my mind from this topic that I had somehow manage to find myself on.

"So mom, how was work?" I asked, breaking the silence.

"It was okay, there weren't many kids there today."

"Megs said you work for a daycare, how'd you end up doing that?" Such a simple question but such a hard one at the same time.

"Well it's way above the my level and I had a hard time finding work at all because of my score. My husband and his brother got me the job, there scores are higher than mine and they used there connections to get me the job. I work harder than most others that are there in order to keep my position."

"Oh, I didn't realize how much scored could affect someone until now. It's not something that is really talked about, so I guess it's a good thing you had people with higher scores who had your back."

Well that's one way to put it, I won't ever understand why she doesn't ask uncles friend to help her find a better job. I know he would in a second and then we could move, honestly I'm still not sure why she refers to him as that and always gets so angry if I call him by his name. I understand that it might bring back memories from dad but she was this way about it even when dad was alive, I have always wondered if something happened between them that made mom dislike him or that caused her to not want to hear his name.

"I was very lucky and I still am. I have an amazingly talented daughter and I can afford this nicer housing and to have things that others who are the same score as me can't."

"Well mom you're work hard and so did father that way we could be happy and have a better life. Plus uncle would never let anything bad happen to us and since he's a different tier than us nobody here would deny stand a chance especially with his friend back us as well."

"I've been wondering, who's your uncles friend?" Me and my mom both looked at Hunter when he asked this. My moms the one who spoke though.

"Her uncles friend was someone we meant in high school. I got moved up and was part of a mid-tier school and that's how I meant her father. We had classes together and became friends. Her uncle went to an elite school and quickly became friends with him. They hung out a lot and soon her father became friends with him as well. The three of them were inseparable and that's how I meant him and after Megan was born he started being around more and more so did her uncle. After mall the 3 of them basically raised her, she always had one of them who wanted to hold her or take her somewhere and wanted to look after her. They all would always treat her as if she were their own child." My mother explained but didn't say his name.

"His name is John." I said, I knew my mother would say his name and she shot me a look when I said his name. Hunter noticed it and drop the subject.

"The food is really good." Hunter said, He was trying to change the subject and I smiled at him. I was happy he was trying to help me out, my mother smiled as well.

"Yes it was." My mom said "I will be off to bed soon, I have had a long day and tomorrow will be long as well." She said as she grabbed the dishes from the table and took them over to the sink.

"Goodnight mom."

"Night ma'am."

"Goodnight you two... stay out of trouble and try not to stay up to late."
