"Jeremy, I know you came here to tell me something. And you also brought bribes for me."
I smiled bitterly. I knew that Jeremy bought me those things to appease me. He knows that I will be hysterical once I knew the relationship between him and Angelika.
"What are you talking about? Of course I bought all of that for you." Jeremy smiled awkwardly. "But you are right in one thing. I need to tell you something."
'Here it comes.' I thought to myself. I braced myself of what is to come.
"Ana, I think I fell in love with someone." Jeremy said awkwardly. "And well, I have started to date her."
My heart clenched in pain. This wasn't the first time I heard about this but it still hurts to hear it again from the man I love.
"I hope you understand. I mean, our engagement was decided by our parents. I love you but not in that kind of way." Jeremy was trying to explain himself. "I guess we aren't really meant for each other. One day you would know once you fall in love with the right guy."
"I already have." I whispered gently. I don't know if Jeremy heard it but his eyes went wide.
Tears were trying to get out but I forced them in. "So, what you are telling me is you want to cancel our engagement?" I said forcing a smile.
"Well, yes that was what I am asking. But Ana, I will always be here. I will still love you like before." Jeremy said with worried eyes.
I remember getting hysterical after Jeremy said this to me in my past life. But now I won't do that.
"I will accept the breaking of our engagement Jeremy." I said with a heavy sigh.
"Really? I mean is it really okay with you to stop our engagement?" Jeremy asked merrily.
"You have fallen in love with another woman, what can I do?" I smiled bitterly. "All I can do is support you, I guess." My heart was hurting even more. But I have to let go, I have to let him go for me to live my life differently.
"Thank you, thank you very much." Jeremy stood up and happily embraced me from my sit. "We will still be friends you know. You will still be like a little sister to me. I will let you meet her, I am sure you will like her and…"
"Jeremy." I cut off his sentence. "I am afraid we cannot continue on like this."
I can feel Jeremy's body froze. He slowly stood up and looked at me with bewildered eyes. "W-What do you mean Ana?" His voice trembled.
"I really don't want to meet her." I said with a sad smile. "And we can't be friends any longer, Jeremy."
"Why, why can't we stay the way we are now?" Jeremy asked with confusion etched on his beautiful face.
I looked at his handsome face for the last time, his black silky hair and his sharp dark blue eyes. I guess this will be the last time I see his face up close.
"If your love for me is like the love to a sibling, mine is different. Jeremy, I hope you understand." I looked at him in the eyes. "I cannot stay with you and see you loving someone else."
Jeremy's eyes widened in shock. I am sure with what I have just said, he has at least found out my real feelings for him. The long time we were together, he never even thought that my love for him was genuine. He thought of me as his spoiled little sister, chasing and loving him as a big brother.
"I am giving you your freedom. So please give me mine." Tears started to trickle down my eyes.
"A-Ana… I didn't… I never knew…" Jeremy cannot find the right words. I guess there are no right words for this.
"I am sorry, I don't feel well." I stood up and tried to dash out of the room but I felt my hand being grabbed. I look around and saw Jeremy with worried eyes. "I will tell my parents that I want our engagement broken. Don't worry, I will be the one to take the blame for this. The truth is, I was the one that insisted on our engagement."
"No, Ana please." Jeremy pleaded.
I gently pried his hand open to free myself. "There is nothing between us anymore Jeremy. I guess this is goodbye."
After that I rushed upstairs and locked myself in my room.
"Ana… Ana…" I hear Jeremy shouting at the bottom of the staircase.
"Young master, I am sorry but you are not allowed to go upstairs." The maids stopped him from going up.
"No, I need to talk to her. Please Ana…Anastasia." Jeremy was pleading.
Tears are now overflowing from my eyes. My heart was hurting even more than before.
"I'm sorry…Jeremy. This… this is for the best." I whispered in between sobs.
