Kapitel 28: Chapter 27 - A Mother’s Gift

The next day, Ernie and the girls left their village and set off towards the Uzu clan. It would take them a few hours to reach their destination, but Ernie told them they were not in a rush. He wanted to check out the area around here for himself a bit.

He was glad he did as he found something strange a bit north west from his home. It was a small region with a small lake, and in the middle of it was a statue of a dragon.

The statue was white in color and made out of some strange material, or some material he did not know of.

"How did this get here? Do either of you know?"

Ernie asked as he turned to look at both Hina and Himari.

"No, we've never seen anything like this before. Not even our clan has been to this location, and if i'm not mistaken it's just a bit east of our old clan home."

Hina answered as she walked closer to the lake to get a good view of the statue.

"Maybe it's something from the era before us."

Himari suggested.

"That could be the case. But, why would they leave this here out in the open?"

Hina agreed but thought there might be another reason for it being here.

Himari came up to the lakeside and touched the water. When it touched her hand she felt something.

"This isn't water. Well, it might be, but something is different about it."

Ernie listened and came up next to the girls.

He hovered his hand above the lake water and used his chakra to freeze the water giving him a surface to walk on.

He moved up to the statue and started tapping it, checking it out and soon he noticed a marking on the side of its tail. It was pretty well hidden making it hard to spot unless someone got up close to the statue.

"Look at this. Do either of you know this symbol?"

Ernie asked as he waved for the girls to come over.

Hina rubbed her hand over the symbol.

"I've seen this before, but I just can't recall where… i'm pretty sure this is some sort of sealing jutsu."

"Sealing jutsu? You think this dragon is sealed here?"

Hina shook her head.

"I wouldn't say that, but who can be too sure. We shouldn't mess with things that came before our time, especially considering something was sealed here."

"What's the worst that can happen?"

Himari asked as she rubbed her hand all over the statue. She even climbed on top of it and made a pose as if she were some sort of knight.

Ernie was laughing in his head, but he had to keep a serious expression on the outside.

"I wonder what era came before this one."

"Wasn't it the creation and rebirth era?"

Himari said as if she wasn't too sure.

Hina shrugged.

"It's been a while since we were told anything of the era before us, it was during the time our great grandfather was alive. Where the most common ninjutsu were made."

Ernie looked at the statue and sighed.

Just how deep was this world's history?

The three of them explored a bit more, but they didn't find anything noteworthy. Eventually, they came back to the dragon statue and set up camp for the night.

"We should make it there in an hour or two, but it'll be best for us to arrive in the morning."

Ernie said and the girls agreed.

That night, the three of them slept by the lakeside, unbeknownst to them the statues eyes light up bright blue as a cool mist shrouded the area.

When day broke the next morning, Ernie felt rejuvenated, as if he slept for hours. Hina and Himari were curled up at his side still sleeping, but he noticed in the center of their forehead was a small blue dot.

He was sure that wasn't there before, so he touched it to see if it was some sort of cloth or anything that would stick to them. Yet, it wasn't, it was a marking.

Feeling Ernie's touch the girls made a cute sound and opened their eyes.

"Morning…"

They said in unison in a tired tone.

"Morning. What's that on your forehead?"

Ernie asked.

"What?"

They both were confused and gazed at one another only to see what Ernie was talking about.

Touching their forehead they started freaking out.

"I don't know!"

"What the heck is this!?"

"Calm down! What did you two do last night?"

Ernie asked them.

"Nothing. We just slept, but I did have this strange dream. I saw our mother, she was telling me about how she met our father and how he enjoyed her silver hair."

Hina said.

Himari nodded.

"She told me about how she always got into fights during her youth."

Ernie's eyebrows furrowed.

"Didn't she die when your clan was killed?"

Both girls shook their head.

"No, she died after she gave birth to us. Father said it was a difficult pregnancy for her, and her body was already weak."

Hina told him.

"Our brother and father are the only ones who knew how our mother was. But even now, both of them are gone."

Himari added as she looked down.

"Then how do you know it was your mother?"

"She told me, and I could see the resemblance."

Himari answered and Hina agreed.

Ernie was at a loss.

"That's all that happened?"

Hina and Himari were silent as they tried to remember.

"Ah! She mentioned that she gave us a portion of her chakra."

Himari remembered.

"I wish I had more time to spend with her, it only felt like ten minutes but we've been sleeping for hours."

Hina sighed.

"I'm happy to hear that the two of you got to see your mother, and it seems you both benefited. I'm interested to know how she managed to contact the two of you."

Both girls were silent.

Seeing this, Ernie changed the subject.

"Well, we best get moving."
