Ernie nodded his head after examining the man. He couldn't determine the man's strength currently, but it definitely wasn't lower than his own.
"I heard that you were hiring mercenaries, thus I came here seeking if I could aid you."
The dark black haired man eye'd Ernie.
"From what I saw, you are not an ordinary child. It may be impolite of me to ask, but which clan do you hail from?"
Ernie seen the mans piercing gaze seeking information and laughed to himself. Obviously, if Ernie said a clan name and the man didn't know of them he'd believe a new clan rose up here. Ernie being so young but talented would threaten him.
Yet, if he spoke the name of a clan and they were here, there was a chance of them being friend or foe to the Sodachi clan. Which meant he'd either be welcomed or killed.
For now, playing the role of a mysterious young lad would work. As if he killed Ernie or tried to, he would not know what the consequences would be.
"I would rather talk business than speak of my clan. I'm only here seeking to aid someone as magamious as yourself."
Ernie spoke well of the man, while making sure to give him a little praise.
"You must understand how hard it would be to trust someone whose background I do not know. If you were in my shoes, what would you do?"
Ernie laughed out loud this time.
"In this age none of us know who to trust, which is why we keep our friends close and our enemies closer."
"That can be considered true. Very well, i'm willing to pay you but what do you want? Money, armor, weapons, cattle?"
Ernie didn't need to think about it, what he lacked right now was proper clothing. Money wouldn't do him any good currently, considering he had no place to spend it. Also during this time, he doubted people were running shops.
The money this man was offering could probably only be used here in this village where his clan was located.
As for cattle, that was also not needed as Ernie was wandering around for now.
"A set of armor, a pair of kunai and five shuriken."
Ernie stated exactly what he wanted.
"You little!"
One man was about to tell Ernie off, but the man raised his hand signifying him to be silent.
"Friend, you must know how scarce things are during this troubled time. I can give you the armor, but as for five shuriken… that is another story."
Ernie thought about it and nodded his head.
Since the land was constantly at war, they were always using weapons. For them to give up 5 shuriken, would mean they'd be 5 less the next time they got into a fight. While it may not seem like much, in the grand scheme of things it is.
"Fine, i'll take the armor and 2 kunai."
The dark black haired man nodded his head and waved his hand, as both of the guards moved into the village.
He stretched out his hand towards Ernie.
"I'm the clan head of the Sodachi clan, you can call me Meimu."
Ernie shook his hand.
"Ernie."
"What an odd name to have, what is the meaning behind it?"
Ernie shook his head.
"That I cannot tell you."
The man laughed and moments later the two guards came back with armor big enough to fit Ernie as well as his pair of kunai.
Behind the two men was an older man with black spiked hair who had a bandage over his forehead. At his side was a katana, his black eyes showed how fierce he was.
Next to him was a young girl, who seemed to be around 16 years of age. Her hair was long and black, but instead of wearing a bandage around her forehead, she wore a black cloth with their clan's emblem embedded on it.
"This is who will be going with you for your mission, my niece Yui Sodachi and my son Aito Sodachi."
Ernie looked them over before he glanced back towards Meimu.
"Northeast of here there is a small village there, they've harvasted many medicinal plants in the area and now have a large supply. You just need to bring those plants back to me and your mission will be completed. While Yui and Aito are both going with you, they are acting more as observers than anything. To make sure you will not run away with the equipment you are given. One cannot be too careful these days."
Signalling the guards, they both handed Ernie his gear.
He was given black pants along with a long sleeve black shirt, with a metal armor chest piece that only covered his front side. There were also two leg guards. Besides that, and the two kunai he was given a small brown bag which looked like it went around his waist.
"To replace the five shuriken you asked for, i've given you a storage pouch instead."
Ernie nodded his head and put everything on right away. He was 12 years old, who'd want to look at the body of a child? Not like he was packing anything anyways.
After he was fully equipped, he looked up towards Meimu.
"Any time limit?"
"Not really, but we do need them before the week is out."
