Kapitel 45: Final Transmission

"This is Tom, we have failed Humanity... The nukes have been launched and we hope everyone had reached a bunker by now... We couldn't stop the nukes, but I have sent out the cure for the currently widespread plague that had return to our current time ever since it first appeared in the Victorian period." Said Tom.

"How much time do we have left Tom?" Said Porter. "5 Minutes Mr. Porter... We only have 5 minutes by that the Cure had already launched early." Said Tom. As I opened the radio hearing multiple nuclear alarm systems echoing the shelter with the sounds of panicking media personnel saying words like 'God has abandoned us!', 'It's all over.', 'We're all gonna die.'. We just sat there with Mr. Porter looking at the wall faced down since he knows that all of his deeds are now wasted by just these bombs.

Mr. Porter starts a cigarette to try to calm himself down knowing that his APEX system will try to remove the effects of cigarettes on him. "Trying hard to calm down is hard now with this machine in me." Said Porter as he tries to light his cigarette again. "I now think what will we do after the nuclear holocaust what do you think Mr. Porter?" Said Tom. "Kid I would worry about your loved ones first if I'm honest with you." Said Porter as he successfully enjoy his cigarette.

After a few hours I opened the radio nothing... No response, no signal, no nothing. We have to wait, what's surprising is that by now everything on earth is probably gone back to the ground as it is intended. "Hey kid you seemed tense. Here listen to his old tape it might relax you." Said Porter as he hands Tom his old music player. I played what's in this old tape player which is very handy in this kind of situations where its mechanical rather than digital. His choice of music is really old but it gave me a bit of breathing room now.

"You relaxed now kid?" Said Porter as he continues smoking. I nodded in reply then headed in the storage room with it strapped to my pants. Looking around how much supplies we have, surprisingly this bunker was meant for 10 people so we have so much supplies to split up. We may need to rationalize the supplies here to extend its use even though we have more than we have.

"This should be enough for more than a few years for us here." Said Tom. "Hey kid you checking out the supplies?" Said Porter. "Yeah, this bunker was meant for more people but we need to minimalize our use case to extend the days before we ran out of supplies." Said Tom. "Good thinking kid oh by the way how long do we need to wait before we can go back to the surface again?" Said Porter. "Probably 3-5 weeks at best." Said Tom.

"I see we need to stay here for a while good to know that we can survive here at least." Said Porter. "Communications would probably return in a few days so we have to be prepared for radio SOS's" Said Tom. "Good the comms room of the bunker is still functional but no signal as of now." Said Porter.

From this knowledge we tried to do our normal routines as days goes by to prevent us from being dull once we go back to the surface. Mr. Porter was surprised that there was a weapons room in the bunker with a functional shooting range so we practiced our aim from time to time without wasting that much ammunition. As days goes by we found out more and more about the bunker knowing that its prepared for war.

"Tom, sounds like this was meant to be for a platoon or similar to that. With most of the rooms filled with weapons I can say the bunker you picked will probably enough for us to defend this bunker." Said Porter as he laugh at the idea of defending the bunker. "Well I realized that we're gonna be here for a while so why not prepare for the worst since the world is in ruins society will be too." Said Tom.

"I think Hailey and the others are safe by now." Said Porter. "I mean she's not a weak girl. She can handle most stuff on her own." Said Tom. "Oh, man up there Tom. Hailey is probably as worried as you. Just make sure you comeback to her alive." Said Porter while he loads up magazines.

We continue to wait until the 4th week where I think is probably safe now to go to the surface. "Which one of us will try to surface up?" Said Porter. "Well we have APEX systems so we're kinda protected from immense radiation but its better to be safe so wear a suit." Said Tom. "I think Tom you need samples outside right?" Said Porter.

"I see yeah that is true I need samples if the land is safe. Sure I'll go outside myself." Said Tom as I felt like that I've seen this before in my dreams... Mr. Neal was that your presence was that a warning from you? Or was it a message. As I prepare the radiation suit as Porter connects my radio to the communication's room for ease of reporting.

I step outside for the first time in 4 weeks after humanity stood still and the earth fell into despair when all of the nukes annihilated most of life on the surface. What I saw was a flat surface buildings turned into dust in pieces lying in the ground. Lifeless as it felt like its not earth anymore the sky is different as well. As one step for man, as one giant leap for the destruction of mankind.
